Couple Star Wars problems
2005-05-26, 6:47 PM #1
just a few things I've noticed and realized since I saw Episode 3 and started readed Heir to the Empire again. I don't think I'm spoiling anything, but I might be so if you don't want even SLIGHT ep. 3 spoilers don't read this.

1. Why the hell was Grievous coughing?!

2. In the end when Organa I think it was told a man to wipe these droid's memories, he said "Captain Antilles". Maybe it's a different Antilles, but he looked a lot like Wedge from Ep. 4. But it couldn't be, because this is like 20-30 years prior to Ep. 4

3. If Mara Jade was a padawan of the Emperor, why would she help Kyle Katarn? Unless JK takes place AFTER the Thrawn trilogy (Heir to the Empire's the first, can't think of the others) which I don't think those games do.

4. Last thing right now. I know LEC was trying to come up with a good story, but Jerich couldn't exist in JK1. All the Jedi were killed. Anakin, Palpatine, and Yoda remain. I'll accept Joruus C'Baoth, because he was a clone and not the original.

Maybe I'm just being extremely picky, but this interests me and I would like some answers and opinions from massassi.
I had a blog. It sucked.

1. I was wondering that too
2. The guy that played Wedge was offered the part, i didn't see if he took it or not
3. it's a video game, live with it
4. Jerec might have been just off somewhere else, and just decided to become one of the nefarious Warlords that took over

Yeah, that was really wierd considering he could go out into a vacuum and be fine so obviously he didn't use oxygen.

Wedge wasn't "Captain Antilles" anyways. Captain Antilles is the guy who gets strangled at the beginning of E4. Btw, Bail only told the guy to wipe 3PO's mind.

Mara turns to good later on.

All the -known- Jedi were killed.

And Jerec and co. were dark jedi, not Sith Lords.

1. read the visual dictionary about him... maybe its on the site, too, buuut... his ship crashed and what was left of him was put into a robot body, hence why he has organic eyes and a brain in there, and lungs, heart, etc in his chest behind the metal. i thought it was a kinda vader connection, but yeah.. they put lungs into a robot.. dont think it would work flawlessly? also, it's GL's cough that is used for the sound.

2. i dunno. could be his dad? maybe thats how wedge was intorduced to the rebellion... through his dad. and he could already have a young kid by the time he's in ep3...

err, nevermind... or the older guy who gets choked at the beginning of ANH. could still be his dad... most likely.

3. it's a video game

4. it's a video game

3 and 4 are kinda EU-ish things.

1. Mace Windu choked him severly with the force in the clone wars cartoons.

2. Father maybe?

3. Mara was a direct student to the emperor himself, not really conscerened with what went on with the empire. When emperor dies, she's free.

4. A lot of other jedi survived. You can't hunt down all of a certain people, especially if they have mind trick ;)

Because he is a cyborg thing. If you noticed he has a crap load of human organs, including a human brain and lungs, the rest of him is just all robot. (Kind of like Vader...except Grevous was more messed up) The reason he could go into space like that was because he has one of those fake lung things like vader to help him breath as well. Or maybe because it's a movie. obi-wan and Anakin and Palpy had there mouths open when they were almost sucked into space.

If you watch the latest Clone Wars shorts, you get to watch Anikan crush something on Greivous' chest with the force.
Daddy, why doesn't this magnet pick up this floppy disk?
2005-05-26, 7:10 PM #8
Greivous might have had an oxygen tank installed that helped him survive the vacuum.

In ANH 3PO says "our last master was Captain Antilles", so in RotS I figured that was just a little tie-in.

Obi Wan and Yoda reconfigure the signal in the Jedi Temple so that 'the remaining Jedi' will not return there. It is implied that Yoda and Obi Wan are the sole Jedi survivors, but not explicitly.

Not to mention that everyone assumes that if you're a jedi you've already aligned yourself to some cause. Out of the entire galaxy, I doubt everyone who was force-sensative suddenly raised their hand and asked to be sliced to bits. Not to mention, I doubt there could be only a SINGLE alegence of force sensative people in an entire Galaxy. Some undescovered or little-studied planet could have a senate of Dark Jedi that are discovered by the empire and converted to the dark side. I really don't find it all that impossible or even unlikelly.

that's right Genki...they were. I forgot about that. Yeah, I'd probably have to go with uncle. EXCEPT if it is him in Ep. 3, then he'd be 20-30 years older in Ep. 4. if he's the one to get choked, then, assuming he was 20 years old in that clip in Episode 3, the choked man (if i remember right) doesn't look 40-50. Oh well, you're prolly right. And I know Mara turns good. BUT. If JK happens before the 2nd death star, that's not correct. She would not have done that for a rebel. But if it's after the Mount Tantiss and Thrawn incident, I can believe it. But the Empire just seemed a little too strong in the JK games to be after the downfall is all.

Maybe they just happen to have the same last name?

Allow the walking SWU enclyclopedia to answer your questions.

1; As the others have said, because he's a cyborg. As for how, as an oxygen breather, he could survive in vacuum... I'm not sure. Maybe he just held his breath; he wasn't out there for that long. Maybe, as someone else suggested, he had a built-in oxygen tank. Either way, it doesn't matter that much.

2; There is absolutely no relation between Captain Antilles and Wedge Antilles. Wedge is the X-wing pilot from the OT whom we all (should) love. Captain Antilles is just the starship captain of the Tantive IV. There was also a Bail Antilles mentioned in TPM, but there's no relation among any of them. Antilles is just a common last name for humans. (For the record, Wedge's parents died when their fuel station exploded.)

3; Mysteries of the Sith is barely considered Star Wars canon at all, even less so than most videogames. However, yes, MotS takes place a good while after the Thrawn trilogy, after Luke has already established the Jedi Academy on Yavin. One could assume that MotS happened during Mara's absence from the academy, and that she went to go train with Kyle. And, also for the record, Mara Jade was not the emperor's "padawan". She was the Emperor's Hand, essentially a force-trained personal assassin. Palpatine's only real apprentice was Vader.

4; Jerec and his crew were part of a mission sent out among the outer rim (not to be confused the outbound flight, a seperate mission). They were gone for the duration of the clone wars, and didn't return until after the Jedi Purge. They were employed by the Imperial High Inquisitor (or whatever his title was, don't remember his name... Started with a V maybe?) prior to the battle of endor (Palpatine and the Empire had a number of less powerful Dark Jedi working for them, Jerec and crew being some of them). Then after Endor, they took control of a portion of the Empire and went on their search for the Valley of the Jedi.

Some of that is a bit sketchy as I don't recall exactly how it worked out, but that's pretty close. If you want more accurate information, check theforce.net

Hope that helps.

(saddest part about that, is that I know all of that information off the top of my head)

in the clone wars cartoons they show you a bunch of stuff. like palpatine getting kidnapped and mace force crushing greivous' chest. he was wounded badly in ep. 3 which you would've had to have seen the clone wars cartoons to know. i ****ing hate the fact that they did that.

grievous is mostly droid due to a shuttle crash that may have been set up by tyranus. only his brain, spinal chord and internal organs were saved. because most of him is droid he can withstand long periods of time without breathing and survive for short periods of time in vacuum. his remaining biological parts are contained in pressurized containers allowing him to survive in vacuum. (from the visual dictionary)
2005-05-26, 9:03 PM #16
About the Captain Antilles thing, as mentioned above he is not related at all to Wedge Antilles. If you recall from Episode 4, C3PO tells Luke "Our last master was Captain Antilles." Including him at the end of Revenge of the Sith was just a throw back to that.

yoda explains this at the end of RotS... not explicitly but it's not that hard to figure out

qui-gon figured out a way to come back through the force after his physical body died. he appeared to yoda and taught him how to do it, who later passed it on to obi-wan ("i can teach you how to commune with him blah blah blah")

well, since I've only seen and will only see Ep. 3 in theaters once, I can't really go back and pick up on that cow. But I guess that makes sense...doesn't explain the disappearing of his body because Qui-Gon's body laid there. As far as I could tell, so did Yoda's. *Shrug* but I guess that's as good an answer as any

Yoda did disapear.

Qui-Gon didn't disapear, because he more or less only figured out how to come back later.

One little detail no one seems to have pointed out yet...

In ANH, obiwan says to luke: "I haven't gone by the name of Obiwan since long before you were born"

But in reality, he was being reffered to as Obiwan even after luke was born. It wasn't until the very end when he went into exile on tatooine that he changed his name.

You dont know whats going on in that galaxy far far away....mind you this was along time ago. They have plenty of technology that we dont...

It all comes from George's imagination. Just as the light saber and D.V., etc came from that, Grievous's coughing came from it...His mind is (was) a gift and (is) a curse...

What I want to know is why Grievous was so awesome in the Clone Wars cartoons, but then was almost completely useless in the movie. Sure, in the beginning he was injured. I would assume he recovered between then and the planet he treveled to. Yes, in the cartoons he faced lesser Jedi than Obi-Wan, but he faced several of them at a time, and kicked them all. Obi-wan was able to dispatch with Grievous without much effort. A load of crap if you ask me.

Antilles is the Star Wars version of SMITH according to Lucas..

In Episode 1, they mention BAIL ANTILLES. This movie is Captain Antilles. And there is Wedge Antilles.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

:(
2005-05-27, 7:26 AM #36
It just dawned on me that attempting to justify a lot of this would appear pretty nerdy to an outsider, but:

Obi-wan learned a different form of lightsaber combat than most other jedi, stressing defence and his encounter with Count Dooku surely promted him to train a lot.

In the Clone Wars cartoons Grievous had the element of surprise to begin with, and had the advantage of not being the one who was trapped. His guards also helped a lot.

Jerec's situation has been mentioned by other posters. The Emperor and Vader found it useful to have some force-users so long as their power was far less than their own. The Emperor's Jedi plan according to EU was that force sensitive youths were either trained to an extent, or if they were weak just killed on the spot.

I thought it was "I haven't gone by the name of Obi-Wan since, oh, before you were born."

And if JK's set six years after RotJ, why are there still stormies? I thought the empire dissolved.

Things like that don't just dissolve overnight. The enperor died, but that doesn't take care of the fact that the Empire is still quite the military power, and still controls Coruscant. Commanders often became Warlords and used the military might they were commanding as their own.
