Prophet Yahweh (man who summons ufos on demand?)

Watch this news clip first.
Quote:
Yahweh claims that for 45 days, from June 1st, 2005 until July 15th, 2005, he will summon a series of UFOs over the city of Las Vegas. In particular one ship will hover directly over the city for a period of two days, in an area where millions of people will be able to witness the craft. This event is called The Descent by Yahweh as it is meant to reveal to the population of Earth that UFOs are real. Following The Descent will come another period of time where the UFOs will land, this time manned by the extraterrestrial beings who have created them, at which point the alien life will make contact with humanity, explain themselves and the Universe to a greater extent, and set up an eternal kingdom on the planet.

On May 28th, 2005 a newscrew from the KTNV Channel 13 (a local ABC affiliate) in Las Vegas met with Prophet Yahweh in order to do a piece for the 11 o'clock news about his predictions. The piece was to be humorous and skewer Yahweh's far-fetched and seemingly frivolous predictions. However, as Prophet Yahweh claimed to be summoning UFOs with KTNV's reporter Mike Dello Stritto near him and a camera-crew taping him, two unidentified objects appeared in the sky. One was a white object that appeared and maneuvered in the sky before dissapearing. The second was a orange orb that appeared and made strange maneuvers in the air before dissapearing as well. The incident was completely caught on tape and shown on that evening's newscast. The reporter, Stritto, claims that he went into the incident hoping to make light of Yahweh's claims but left impressed and genuinely beleiving he had seen some sort of unidentified object. KTNV subsequently made calls to Nellis Air Force Base to see if they could account for any aircraft or aeriel objects in the area at that time. Nellis never responded. The video of the clip was subsequently transmitted over the internet rather widely and the incident was documented in many blogs and news media.

Now for background information pertaining to him.

Lightning IS in the forecast.

And since when does a news station "Solve Problems?" WTF. You REPORT THE NEWS. I hate how full of themselves new stations are.

Anyway, back to the guy. I'm actually pretty interesting to see what he can conjur up. If sometihng honestly does happen, and that wasn't just a little something he had his friends put together to get himself on the news, than I'll be pretty baffeled. I'm honestly not ready to count this guy out, yet. Call me crazy, but I have to believe there's something about the mind that we don't know and some other alien race would. It also enforces an idealogagy that religion is based on the events of aliens or some sort of thing.

Hey, I'm a skeptic, but it doesn't hurt to have even a little faith.

It is, but I believe it was only written as "YHWH" and for a while you were supposed to get struck by lightning if you said it out loud.

Yes, Yahweh is another word for God, but it's not spelled "Yahweh" it's spelled someway else, I just can't remember right now... we learned this in Confirmation this year..

How come almost every picture of a "UFO" is blurry?

I don't trust a news station that says, "ACTION, ACTION, ACTION."

From what I've read (written by Larry Gonick, but still) it was originally written as yhwh, and how it was actually pronounced is unknown. He suggested "Yahu-Wahu." :p

Yahweh
Jehovah

bible lesson for the kids!

in the aincent hebrew text of the old testmant these 2 words are useed interchangibly for God. Jehovah is the more specific word, and Yahweh is more general... the reason we know (believe at this point) that thay are infact the same God is: that the actions of these seperatly named god's do the same thing, in the many differnt oldest text of the bible. It really depended upon whitch people's group the writter came out of as to what name he would use.
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

Nope. Yahweh is the actual name of the God that Judaism and Christianity talks about. His name actually means "Who I am" or something of that nature. It is a close derivitive of the Hebrew verb "to be." Where you see "lord" in all caps in the Bible is where it was translated from God's name, Yahweh.
Jehova is the covenant name of God. It is often (if not always) used with another Hebrew word describing an attribute of God. Like "The God who provides" or something like that.

The actual Hebrew word for God is Elohim. So God's full name is Elohim Yahweh: The God who is. Of course, Hebrew actually has no vowels, so the pronunciation is probably unknown to anyone except the Hebrew, who believe it to be vain to say His name aloud. Or maybe they don't know either and are trying to hide that they don't know.

I think that's pretty interesting, but the newscasters are faaaar too cocky for their own good, what with all that banter at the end of the clip in a 'oh but of course WE know it's all silly' attitude. Certainly if you're a rational minded empiricist you're entitled to think you're perfectly right, but that doesn't mean mocking people who you see as wrong.

Just to keep adding to the history disucssion...

The word Yahweh is most likely derived from the Hebrew word for I Am, which comes from the burning bush story with Moses. When Moses asks what God's name is, the response is "I am who I am" or "I will be what I will be". I heard it said once that in a group of 20 rabbis you would have 30 opinions as to what that phrase means.

Maybe because Hebrew doesn't have "tense" verbs. Or maybe I'm thinking Greek. I can't remember which it it. I'm leaning more toward Hebrew.

Not exactly.
Yahweh and Jehovah are both attempts to spell the same word differently. You need to keep in mind that the original language uses a totally different alphabet from ours, so they're both simply attempts at transliteration.
