Best PC game of all-time
2005-06-23, 9:59 AM #1
A vote for a game is a vote for a series. For eg. if you think Thief III is the best game of all time, vote for Thief.

And yes, you only get 1 vote :em321:

Homeworld will always be the best game of all time. The soundtrack and story were amazing. The graphics were also well ahead of their time.

Thief

You all know it.

Note this is for Thief ONE and Thief TWO and the awesomeness of fan missions, not Thief 3, which, comparatively (and I stress *comparatively*), sucks.

I was considering that - great game, really. It was also the first game that truly introduced me to first person shooters. ;)

Homeworld, out of those options.

Such an incredibly unique game. The perfect marriage of graphics, soundtrack, and storytelling (pretty amazing considering that you never really even see a single human character. Just disjointed voices). Great variety among the missions too (Asteroid field, Space Junkyard, Sacred Nebulae, irradiated space around ongoing Supernova, Space Pirates etc.).

Lovely greyscale hand-drawn sliding storyboard cutscenes, and the opening mothership launch is one of the most breathtaking in-game scenes that I've ever seen. It really does look massive and solid.

Same goes for Homeworld 2.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

This is Hard.

Either UT, Deus EX, Grand Theft Auto, or CoD.

Not sure, I'll come back later.

JK. It's the only game in a long time to have Atmosphere. It also had huge levels. JK2 and KoToR 2's Nar Shada were tiny and boring compared to JK's. HL2 had some nice atmosphere, but nothing like JK. That was a fun game. Why don't they make them like they used to?

Yeah, one of Raven's biggest messups was their pathetic rendition of Nar Shaddaa (sp?). It was a big disappointment for the whole game.

I voted for Deus Ex. The single player mode showed had a novel-like storyline composed of many variable parts. Oh, I could list the great things but that would take too much time right now.

JK and HL tie for second for me.

Deus Ex, Jedi Knight, Mysteries of the Sith, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior

All on the 1st spot. I'd write my reasons but you're not interested, but neither am I.

(I read this thread as Best PC FPS of all time, but otherwise I'd probably add TIE Fighter and Rebellion to that list. And KotOR)

Raven's rendition of Nar Shadda is a lot more true-to-reality than JK's was. Have you guys even seen JK's opening cutscene?

True-to-reality. hehehe. You have brilliantly shrouded the fact that Star Wars is not reality.

Starcraft for me is the greatest game ever. It is the only game that i have installed every two years and play over again just to experience the story over and over again. It is just filled with detail, and every single time i play through, i always refuse to kill kerrigan, but she dies anyways :(

Same. System Shock and Thief series are close behind as well.

Looking Glass Studios/ION Storm is/was the best group of developers in one place.

As good a game JK was, I don't understand why it's beating Deus Ex. I'm STILL finding things I never had before in that thing.

Gonna have to go with System Shock 2.
This game made you really think about the upgrades you choose. Depending on how you play the game, each one really matters. And you actually find your self conserving ammo and being so happy whne you find more. And you flip out when your gun jams and you have to go without till you can repair it.
etc etc, great game.
2005-06-23, 12:08 PM #33
Deus Ex was very hard for ammo as well. You got litterally 3 shots with an assult rifle from guards.

HL2
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.
