Best PC game of all-time

Dark Forces. It's been what, 10 years, and it's still fun to play.

After more consideration, I think I enjoyed the original Red Alert more.

Actually, Ultima VII was really fun, as well.

hm.

Half-Life (1) and Diablo 2. JK and UT are up there as well.

Probably the original Carmageddon. What's not to like?

-Free roaming over massive (compared to other games of the day) 3d environments.
-You get to run over pedestrians to score points
-Probably had the best car damage of any game before it.
-Lots of cars, tracks.
-Fear Factory on the soundtrack ;)

Ah. I used to spend hours playing Carmageddon.

on a side note, does anyone remember MegaRace 1 and 2?

<3 Lance Boyle ;)

Of the games I've played, Deus Ex. I've played the game maybe 3 or 4 times and I've found something new every time.

JK, TIE Fighter, Civilization II, and CoD (that's CoD with the realism mod).

I voted No One Lives Forever (2), because it's the best single player FPS, in my opinion.

Thats true, Thief I and II were pure class, whilst Thief III was just a damn good game.

Thief I and II on the Thief III engine would rock.

Hmm this forum needs more poll options :p

MOH:AA, UT, and TIE Fighter (well, actually I was thinking X-Wing: Alliance) were all on the short list but got cut...

You can finish Deus Ex without firing a weapon at all. :p

Which is sometimes really easy because of the AI.

For sheer story alone does Planescape Torment deserve the best PC Game of all time. Hell, any game that's able to explain all the questions that I still have left at the very end with four simple words is a winner.

(although I recently started with Baldur's Gate 1, and moving on to BG2/ToB after that... definately curious if this saga has potential to take it all further)
The answer is maybe.

The first Knights of the old Republic was one of the games that I enjoyed the most in the recent gaming times.

My other favorites fall back lightyears ago :

Day of the Tentacle
Monkey Island II : Lechuck's revenge
Kings Quest 6
Gobliins 2 / Goblins 3
Doom

Ach, and I forgot another RPG as well, good ol' Neverwinter Nights.

Shoddy official campaign, but the campaigns with the expansion packs made up for that, I suppose. Excellent multiplayer support, excellent support from Bioware itself(free content and patches), beautiful fan-created modules, and the DM Client deserves a special mention as well.

Edit: Spoiler for Planescape Torment : I suppose they never answered that one, it's up for interpretation. Everyone, including possibly the Nameless One, has their own take on that subject
The answer is maybe.

Further Planescape Torment discussions about the answer to THE question of the game: As Koobie said, the answer is really left open. The Nameless One, with the right wisdom, gives his opinion at one point. The Transcendent One believes that nothing changes the nature of a man. I m'self would first like to know what the bloody nature of a man is to begin with before I'm looking further into the discussion...

It might be material for a new topic, aye... who's up for it? :o
The answer is maybe.

I find stealth to be the most fun thing in that game. Why go rambo style when you can be tricky?
2005-06-24, 9:06 AM #69
Deus Ex is awesome! The first one, I mean. I haven't played Invisible War. But yeah... once you get the sentry drone augmentation, you can just fly it around zapping bots. So much fun! But it's true about the no guns thing, you really can do it. Stun prod, baby!

BTW, has anyone else played Invisible War?

TES 3 should've been on that poll... Morrowind and its expansions are AWEXOME!!! Who's with me?

Invisible War... I'm certainly in a minority on that subject, but I found it a good game. That is when I try to forget it's roots. It's not totally weak as a sequel, but still lame considering how DX was like. But it still didn't interest me as much as it could have.

Which only reminds me that Deus Ex 3 could have been really great, or even worser than IW. But we'll never find out because of those Eidos bastards.

1. Age of Empires
2. Thief II
3. Diablo II
4. Battlefield 1942
5. Jedi Knight
6. Tie Fighter
7. Red Faction
8. Neverwinter Nights
9. Jedi Outcast
10. Starcraft

Not in that order... :)

Age of Mythology is pretty good, too...

EDIT: OOOOOH and Anachronox!!! Man, anyone played that? It's an awesome game!! Gahhh I can't believe the developers are gone. Anachronox 2 would have been AWEXOME! I wish they'd improve the battles a little, but other than that Anachronox was great! And pretty funny, too. They did a great job of integrating the comic relief into the main, serious plot.

Deus Ex, mainly because you could kill important characters and the game wouldn't care. Oh, and tranq little boys.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

On the list, I voted Starcraft, but KotOR 1 is definitely my favorite game - just look at my screen name. I got it for Christmas in 2004, and played that game for 4+ hours a day for the next two months or so. The storyline is amazing, and easily offsets any lack of gameplay or graphics.

Yuck. Why is Doom 3 on there? I mean, it *might* be a decent "doom" game but as a game in general, it is a piece of ****.

Anachronox is seriously one awewsome game. I think I would actually prefer it without the battles, though.
