Like the original post says, a vote for a game is a vote for a series. I think one of the most influential FPS series ever deserves a spot on that list. Doom 3 is the most likely game in that series to get votes, so it made the list.

And still not enough people have heard of SpyCraft: The Great Game.

Boooo.

If a vote for a given game is a vote for the entire series, why does the poll title say "What do you think is the single best PC game of all-time?"?

Huh? HUH? WHY? WHY? HUH? WHY?

Anachronox was great fun, but every time I got to fight the guy at the Well (the one with the prismatic defense) it crashed.

Every.
Damn.
Time.

In the end I gave up.
"Whats that for?" "Thats the machine that goes 'ping'" PING!
Q. How many testers does it take to change a light bulb?
A. We just noticed the room was dark; we don't actually fix the problems.

The TRUE Jedi Knight series: Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, and Mysteries of the Sith.
Sam: "Sir we can't call it 'The Enterprise'"
Jack: "Why not!"

I am glad you pointed that out because there is a major decline between 1998 and 2002.

Oh shut up dude. Some people liked the game. While I agree it's not the best game of all time, somebody could think Barbie's Magic Funhouse was the best game of all time, and that's still their opinon. Just because you think it was craptastic doesn't mean others don't absolutely love it.

Anyone played that Pathways into Darkness mod for it, btw?

I liked DooM 3. Not the greatest, but it was entertaining. There's something satisfying about being immune to the scare factor, and turning at just the right moment to blast a zombie in the face with a shotgun as it comes out of the wall screaming. That's bad ***, too bad no matter how many times it happened, in real life I'd yelp and fire three shots before actually hitting the thing.
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

"N-No it's not!"

"Oh."

I'm a big fan of the Age of Empires/Mythology series. I would play a lot of quick random maps in between classes at university.

Rome Total War comes in a close second, with a great balance of fact and fiction. It's as complex as you want it to be, and the battles are just....wow

I had to vote other for the sheer fact that I have an incredible soft spot for Realms of the Haunting. Back from a simpler time when your first person games were controlled with arrow keys and pg up/pg down... And there's something downright creepy about playing a record that turns out to be a baby crying while a woman laughs.

Anachronox would have been my choice if it weren't for Half life 2.

The only 3 major proglems:
slow beginning
load times
graphics

Otherwise, that game was better than Kotor itself.
