no info past the link?! what, i say, i say what is this?
2005-08-05, 11:15 AM #3
Yes! I found this out on another site. The game seems like a game to REALLY scare you. Some of the scenes I saw in the trailers were downright CREEPY.

Like one part, your walking down a cramped area and you enter a small room, and suddenly the room goes red, and a werid small creature-thing comes crawling towards you at a fast pace along with a childs toy tempo, then poof. It disapears. *shudder*

Hmm.. it seems fairly cool. Only being able to carry 3 weapons kinda sucks though. The flashlight sucks also.

The multiplayer beta painfully sucked. It had to be one of the worst betas I've played. I hope singleplayer is better.

Looks like the successful fusion of HL2 and DOOM3. Nicest shadows I've seen in a game.

I should add that this game is being made by the same folks that gave us the Blood series, Shogo, Aliens Vs Predator 2, and the No One Lives Forever series so it should be good.

AvP2 sucked, as an AvP game.

Operation Flashpoint gave us a view with feet years ago.

600MBs?! It takes me a week to get 300MBs!

Faster than that.

More like 6800 series or greater, with at least a P4 3ghz or AMD 3000+.
2005-08-05, 8:11 PM #25
My computer is fast enough; unfortunately my internet connection is not. I'm at 64%; should be done sometime tomorrow. Of course it doesn't help that I'm torrenting it... it's only going 10 kb/s down, but 34 kb/s up. In a fair world, those numbers would be equal.

The 7th image from the top, is that actual red faction style dynamic terrain modification?

Oh dear God I hope so. Geomod was what made Red Faction (which was an otherwise mediocre game) awesome.

Bah. I have a 3Ghz system sitting here, but I don't have a PCIE card to stick in it..and onboard sucks. :(

yes... gunfire does that to the walls

and as far as fast enough

my machine is
AthlonXP 3000+
1GB PC2700
Radeon 9800Pro 128MB

it runs alright until you get to the areas where fighting happens... i've got everything as high as the game will let me set it while running at 1152x864 (textures are at medium... max makes my resolution setting turn red and i'm guessing it won't even let me try) AA is off and AF is at 8x

Actually it's just really good bumpmapping. The holes aren't really there.
Think while it's still legal.

This is officially the most frightening game i've ever played (makes Doom3 look more like the average children's daytime show... which can be pretty damn scary nonetheless), and i loved every minute of it. This thing officially beat the silicon out of my computer though (processor and ram are there, but my X300 has to run with every setting at bare minimum at 1280x960 just to get a clear image (curse of the LCD monitor: NOTHING looks good without being at native resolution)). Its too short though. I hate how they end it just as the supposed "boss" shows up . Now i'm really looking forward to the full game now (and my full computer upgrade. 2006, here i come :( )

yes they are.. you can't pull that off with bumpmaps... REAL displacement mapping maybe but that is impossible on my card

The holes are fake. I thought they we're real at first, until I blew a hole in the corner of a wall and I noticed it was just a little 'sticker' on the wall, nothing more.

SAJN is right. If you walk up to a "hole" and stanbd against the wall you can tell.
2005-08-05, 11:20 PM #35
Maybe it's a sticker that has depth rendered into it? better than nothing I guess, but don't listen to me. I need to get this but it will take me years.

That's exactly what it is, it's displacement and bump-mapping used in a really smart way. I've been saying they should do that for years. ;) Looks pretty good. This game is insanely cool.

I liked it.

It was freaky when the little girl was running through that first dark part. And when she was in the roof of blood near the end

downloading now. My connection is not the fastest (currently 176 kbs) so I should have it in about 1 hour.

(Thank god for bugmenot... it let me get in to the fast servers w/o having to sign up.)

Tried it. Not my kind of game.
