I was right on each and every aspect. She called me after she read the letter. She got all of her tears out first, and came at it with the calm and level head I know she has. She was a bit angry at me for doing it via letter, except that she understood after I told her it wouldn't have been said unless I had. She agreed about my reasons and we're going to be best friends now. It's great. I've never been so happy, because I'm actually GAINING something by this breakup: A new best friend.

I love her, and she knows that. She loves me and I know that. We never said that before we broke up.

I'd like to send a warm and honestly respectfully said: "Screw You." to everyone who thought they knew better than me on the subject of doing it in person. She AGREED with me that she'd get too upset and refuse the breakup otherwise.

Seriously, this is a great day for single men everywhere. I declair today Singles day. Rack up the kegs and lets have a party!

I have no idea what kind of relationship you two had while you were dating, and I think it's great that you are trying to be good friends, but... man, it is harder than it looks. A lot harder. There are just all these awkward moments, especially when people are still trying to get over one another (but my gut tells me that this seems like a pretty clean break for you, as it doesn't look like the relationship progressed to an uber-serious level [no "I love you"] and just the ages involved), but with a lot of work I think it will end up being a good/positive thing, and I wish you luck. At least someone will be able to succeed; my chances seem so much smaller.
