Man, I was hoping this was going to be about a Deus Ex style nano-technology player that get's implanted into your brain and plays music that only you can hear.

Too bad. :(

I agree about the mini thing. I want to get a mini...it would have been nice to simply lower the price on the mini when they introduced the nano...then I'd have run out and bought a mini right away. I don't want or need an mp3 player that small, with a color display. Don't care! I just want a decent mp3 player right now, that's not huge.

WHO NEEDS ANYTHING THAT FREAKING SMALL! FOR GOD'S SAKES PEOPLE!

I mean, it's really neat, but small != good all the time.

Can you drag and drop MP3s or do you have to use their crappy I-tunes software?
2005-09-09, 10:12 AM #50
You've always been able to drag and drop.

iTunes for music, drag and drop for data.

Winamp with the iPod plugin also works superb.

I haven't tried my iPod with Winamp yet, but I imagine that MusicMagic Playlist generator would make some nice playlists for my iPod.

I don't freakin' care about how small that thing is, my iPod mini serves me just fine, and it's blue. It still fits in my pocket. It's not like I'm gonna trash my mini and buy this thing.

No drag and drop for music! Well, I was going to think about buying one. Instead I'll use the money to place explosives under Apple's HQ.

The interface, mainly. Also the lack of customization, and how it messes with my files when I play them in iTunes.

Got a 60GB Color iPod last night, just started using iTunes. It doesn't suck, but I'm sure they could have made it easier to import my collection in there then it was. I had to add the album art for each album in manually. Wouldn't be bad if I didn't have ~7500 songs...

Other then that, I don't see why you wouldn't like it, it even works with the MSN Messenger "What I'm Listening To" thingy. :D

It's because you suck. :p

iTunes 5 FTW.

The Nano looks and sounds kick ***... but the fact that the headphone jack is on the BOTTOM of the player just feels odd to me. I'll watch it for awhile before I firmly decide to buy one to replace my Shuffle.

As Yoshi might have been trying to point out, there's a plugin for Winamp which allows it to talk to your iPod. No more iTunes needed apparantly. I don't have one so I wouldn't know for sure.

Anyways I want the iFlea. :em321:

Erm I mean...

Possibly, you that you are have controlled the situation of Yoshi, the end to specify, a printed question definitive of Winamp of the installation, that visualizes for this attempt and iPod. ITunes apparantly does not have the necessity ignited of this. 1 that does not come I, therefore I did not know because he is true.

I believed each possible situation, this one, we they we demanded iFlea. of I :em321:

No...that means anyone who's now looking into an iPod mini is now instead looking into an iPod nano. Anyone who has an iPod mini is just fine... I don't know how you made that assumption.

Um, A) A fanboy is someone who likes a product enough to insult those who don't like it *cough*

and B) This has little new to offer that the other Ipods don't have.

A) Yeah, you're a fanboy of anything not Apple, for silly reasons.

B) Color screen, size, weight. Those are three rather large changes. Oh, and it's offered in black.

iTunes is alright, it does the job. It is so much quicker in osx though - the win32 version is painfully slooooow.

I like my iPod - it's a good size, efficient, easy to use, hardy, still has it's 10 hours of battery life after 18 months and is still running half empty. If I was in the market for a music playery thing now, I'd do exactly what i did last time though, buy a the HD ipod with the smaller capacity - 4 gig won't hold all my stuff.

Not directed towards me, but I'll answer anyway. I don't like the interface, complete lack of customization and lack of file format support.

I use foobar2000 - however it is in no way easy to set up, and it's not meant to be. However it is the most advanced, most configurable and flexible player ever.

The Mini's not completely dead yet. Friend was over at the Apple Store here, and they're still selling them until they run out of stock. As well are places like Best Buy and such. Only place they're gone from is the online Apple store it seems.

He picked up the 4 GB Nano, showed it to me, and I was quite impressed. Really like the feel of the thing (it feels very sturdy for its thickness). They didn't sacrifice any processing power on it either, still uses the dual 80 MHz ARM 7TDMI processor apprently. No delay on scrolling through the photo album (if you actually used it for that). They also added in a lap timer for running. Headphone jack is on the bottom now, which is nice for running with a lanyard.

I just searched a bit, because I thought there have to be alternatives for iTunes since Rhythmbox and amaroK (my favourite audio player :) ) have iPod support, too. I found "foo_pod": http://www.tinkafoo.com/log/foo_pod.html - just in case someone is interested.

Apple stores have been told to keep selling the iPod minis until they run out of stock with out reducing the price.

The codec support still sucks. What the f***, Apple? They add support for Audible, but where's Vorbis? It's open source and patent free, they have to pay or even mention how or why they used it!
