Yea, but Apple never bothered to stock the iPod with a processor powerful enough to run Vorbis (and even if it could, it would cut the battery by 1/3rd.

1/3rd, that much? Why are there iRiver and iAudio players with good battery life? Or do they like, measure battery life with the least compressed codec?

Wrong.

4G and up have enough power to play Vorbis, they have it working in iPodLinux.

Looks like i'm a bit behind the times. The info i posted must have been for an earlier generation of iPod (such as the G3 or older). I havn't really kept up on the subject since i got my photo.

Vorbis takes up more processor cycles than most audio formats, and resultantly takes more power. if you're talking about battery-life written on the box, that's more than likely using the most popular codec (mp3) running continuously without anyone touching (my own iRiver advertises 40 hours playtime, but vorbis utterly kills this, dropping it below even 12 hours).

Yeah, I've only been looking at it because I just got my photo and I've never had an iPod before. :p
