Britstorm radio returning? You decide! (Massassi Web Radio?)
2005-10-01, 6:39 AM #1
Some of you older Massassians may remember Britstorm radio, which was basically an online radio broadcast for Massassians.

Well, with the purchase of my new server (and the fact that I have very few signups so far, so much bandwith is being wasted), I could host up to 25 listeners at once, which should be plenty enough for Massassi. (At 128kb[s quality, also)

What I need from you folk is if you would:

A. Be interested in listening
B. Be willing to host at certain times of the day
C. Cover for someone who is unable to do it
D. Use their PC to play just music during the dead moments (such as late at night, and such)

If you are interested in being a host, you'll need to have the following things:

A. Software capable of interfacing with a Shoutcast server.
B. A microphone and a decent speaking voice if you plan on being on the air.
C. CLEAN music. This will be for Massassi, so there can be no language in the music. Basically, if you can't post it here, I don't want it played. Bleeped music is acceptable if you must.
D. A broadband connection capable of sustaining a stream of 128kbps. (Remember, this is UPLOAD speed, not download speed) In addition, you may need to open up a certain port, I haven't decided which port yet.
E. You must have music! We don't want to listen to the same CD over and over!

EDIT: Join us on the irc.holonet.org server at #massradio !!!

Also, listen in at http://sorrowind.net:8000/listen.pls

Do you want me to say "This music sucks" so it could be played randomly during the broadcast?

I'll do some math for you:

It's about 16KB/s constant... so 56.25MB an hour.

Cool, thanks for the math, now I gotta mull it over.

I still join #britstorm automatically when I connect to the IRC server.

I'd be willing to start up my editing show again.

I'd listen. I might be able to host, I just need to go out and buy a mic.

Edit: And what about just talk shows, I think that would be interesting.

Whatever you all like, I'm fully open to suggestions.

If you want to host, you do not HAVE to have a mic, if you really, really don't want to do any talking. But I'd like to get at least a few actual DJers on :D

I'd be hosting a monthly editing talk show, titled "The Cantina." We've already recorded one show, just had a bunch of issues and whatnot. Grismath, ZeqMacaw, Emon, and Me, all in one recording. It was so cool.

Would it be possible to record something beforehand, and just play it as if it were a song later?

If its a normal MP3 or WAV, I don't see why not.

I'd assume you'd be willing to play this via shoutcast on the scheduled time? :D

I could try to host a DJ show once in a while. (Maybe once a week?) I've got 4000+ mp3s, I'm sure I can come up with a playlist that most people will enjoy, be safe for massassi, and have a low chance of repetition. I've got a pretty good mic and DSL.

If you're interested, have your people call my people.

I'd be interested in DJing and hosting a show, basically just screwing around with whatever Gaming topics come up.

If you were ever needing some filler in small areas, I can do one hell of a radio ad voice.

Oh, and yeah, I'd listen.
nope.
2005-10-01, 11:02 AM #15
I'd be more than happy to host, play, and might even be able to get some D&B deejays from bassdrive.com to guest star :D

I suppose I could also give tech news, a "YOUR OPINION IS WRONG" section, and I can start getting a lot of free trance if I started looking hard enough (good for late at night).

Right now, I need a good motto for "Massassi Radio".

Come up with a good one, folks!

And if you can, record yourself saying it, and if you sound good enough, I'll put it on for the intro sequence. (5 second intro when you connect to the stream) You can also choose someone else's motto that you like, and record it too, if you want. Go ahead and dramatize/stylize as much as you want, just make it comprehensible and in English :D

So far, we have:
"Massassi Radio - Now stealing souls over the air" - Me
"Kicking *** Between 88 and 108 MHz." - Wolfy
"I take your ears! With absolute figures." - FGR
"This is Radio Massassi- please save us not the whales!" - Happydud
" Massassi Radio - The Stream of Souls." - Kroko
"This is Radio Massassi, Orbiting Your Computer Room" - Happydud
"Massassi radio - like Finland, only better" - Baconfish
2005-10-01, 11:32 AM #18
<Kroko> Massassi Radio - The Stream of Souls. Because...it's like...streaming audio...and there's a stream...like a stream of water, only it's a stream of souls.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.
2005-10-01, 11:41 AM #19
Massassi Radio - Change the station. Please.

[I had another idea, but I don't know if it would offend :P]
nope.
2005-10-01, 11:51 AM #20
Sounds like a pretty good idea. I'd love to tune in and chat on the show :D

There better be a power-metal hour!

I might check out a DJ Yoshi tech program. You know your **** about hardware.
2005-10-01, 11:55 AM #21
Okay, so the server is currently on a test phase right now.

http://sorrowind.net:8000/listen.pls

All that is playing is about 7 songs from Firefly. NOT Serenity, so no spoilers there.

Some of it is pretty damn good, so stop on in and see how the connection holds, and post your results here.

I might be interested in doing a radio spot or something. We could easily make a Massassi TWiT type program with myself, yoshi and I'm sure a few others around massassi... it would be GREAT.

if its going to be a representative of massassi you have to represent all of massassi, including the minority. if someone wants to here country, you better damn well have a slot of country music. same goes for everything else. if you want to put massassis name on it, it cant be what cool matty likes

Play the beaty song where they were dancing around the maypole in that one episode. Yeah.
2005-10-01, 1:49 PM #34
I'd be down, depending on scheduling. I have a mic but I'm not sure how well it works. But I can play music for a while (I've got a decent collection. 13 gigs of rock/electronic/trance/dnb/metal/downtempo/triphop/hiphop)
Also, I might be able to throw a live DJ set (or make a couple prerecorded ones if scheduling doesn't fit right).
And yeah I know how to work shoutcast
</sarcasm>
<Anovis> mmmm I wanna lick your wet, Mentis.

I'd host, but I don't have a shoutcast software...thing, and I doubt many people will like my music. A lot of video game music and cheesy 80s stuff.
"Jayne, this is something the Captain has to do for himself"

"N-No it's not!"

"Oh."

I have a small collection of oldies.
nope.

I have a vast collection ofEPIC metal like Nightwish, Dragonforce, Rhapsody, etc etc that I could play.

Once I get a mic, it would be great fun to host, or better yet, cohost (so I don't have to talk so much).

AN idea would be to have a tech show every now and then where the main host would pretty much be one person (Like DjYoshi) and anytime someone else is available, and feels like cohosting, they can join up. That way, some times it may just be Yoshi, but sometimes there might be 5 + people on the same show. It would be entertaining to listen to (and maybe be a part of).
