**** **** **** ****! NO! I'm going to college next year. Son of a *****! Why the hell aren't they deploying the rest of the National Guard first? Only 1/10 of all National Guard units in america are deployed somewhere else right now. Sure, the fresh high school graduate is more expendable than the 35 year old with the family...but....no....

Viva Mexico!

For me, its only about two hours away.

Seriously, drafts are horrible things. People that are drafted are forced to pour out their blood in Iraq just to clean up Bush's mess, and people that have to put their lives on hold go over there often have s***ty morale and happy soldiers are good soldiers.

I was for the Afghanistan war, I was not for the Iraq War. I support our troops in the fact that I believe they should be sent home and no more of them should have to die.

I'm a moderate republican, but I still believe that Bush f***ed up bad with Iraq. We are the agressors over there now, and it's making us look like a bunch of nazi war criminals to the rest of the world.

We should be going after Bin ladin, not playing in the sand over in Iraq.

the smart way to dodge the draft is to enroll in the army sooner and get yourself in a different service than a grunt. I have a feeling the draft won't work too good though considering like 50% of the country is obeast LOL.

I was looking into moving to Canada anyways. They have some nice colleges. Correction--I love my country, but I'm not a soldier. I'd be more harm than hurt, because I'm a smart aleck, I don't give in to ANY orders but my own, and I'd be a lousy soldier overall. Besides, dodging the draft isn't like signing up for the army then dodging that. Drafts you have no choice--especially in this one.

Dodging the draft is an okay idea I suppose but wouldn't it be better just to break the draft laws? I mean, they can't force you to fight in a war if you don't want to. They can throw you in jail, yes, but they can't make you willingly obey. Civil disobedience is the obvious answer to this problem.

Its completely unneccessary. America isn't even fighting to its full capacity right now. There is absolutely no reason to increase the total capacity if they could just increase efficiency.

Because a draft is used when the country is in dire need of military reinforcement... America is further from that point right now than like most of the rest of the world...

I don't beleive in the "war", I can't be drafted (Disabilities) and I think drafts are silly ideas, since the soldiers that are drafted have no reason to jump out of their fox-hole and shoot, and most won't. But if you DO become drafted, avoiding it is simply unamerican. You live in a democratic country, the least you can do is fight it's silly wars. While I disagree with the slaughter over there, you're discracing the soldiers, for or against it, already over there.

I wish I could shout this out but, alas, I'm sure the hysteria will continue here. Look around the site this story is from. It's looney! The only person really championing a draft in congress is a democrat named Rangel who's doing it because the "poor" and "minorities" are "overrepresented" in the military blah, blah, blah.

THERE WILL BE NO DRAFT (assuming no unforeseen world events of the magnitude of wars past transpire)!!! The war on terrorism certainly doesn't require a draft and a draft would be detrimental to the quality of our armed forces.

I have to disagree with you Kirby. Our country is was founded upon freedom was it not? Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness are it's tenets. The government should have no right to force you into a situaition in which your life is at stake. That being said, this won't fly. This bill, if ever brought up, will get so much publicity it won;t even be funny. The people of America would not support a draft. Any President who would put that idea forward woulf face a huge uproar, and I mean huge. If you think lots of people were against the war, think of how many would be against a draft. However, even as I say this, I still worry.

this is worrying, but like ^ said people won't stand being forced to fight in a war they don't support anyway. there was enough trouble during the world wars with people dodging and we had a damn good reason to be there! with the number of people in this country firmly against the war, a draft will probably NOT happen. not to mention those riding the fence, such as myself, who will be completely put off the war by a stupid stunt like this.

Freedom is an unrealistic idealism. I hate to agree with an idiotic patriot terrorist war-slogan, but when applied approprietly, it's more true than a lot of things: Freedom isn't Free.

I don't like the idea of being sent to another country to kill a man I don't even know, just because he threatens one mans idea of peace. This is a horrible thing, and this bill most likely will pass. That's fine that people have their opinions, and may think me (or anyone else) a coward for not supporting the draft, but taking another humans life is wrong, and no one should be forced to do so.

Well I plan on moving to England as soon as I graduate so doesn't bug me. Only problem is that the English don't like foriegnors, so I'm going to go to a military accademy. SAS baby! The difference is that I'm volunteering, as oposed to being forced to. I support the war (not that it matters, I'm only 15) but our troops knew (or should have known) what they were getting into. It's their choice to fight for this country. That's honourable. Now if we get all the poor chaps that we have in this country over there, it's a sad state. First our army will become a joke. All the hippies, anarchists, goths, punks, geeks, and fat ppl fighting for freedom? Not a chance. Plus, it's just sending them to do nothing. As said earlier, they would just hide in a hole. Either that or they would run away or die. Probably just die. That's sick.

The thing I think is ironic is that the people who pass these bills never go and fight themselves. In the good old days, a king would go with his troops to war. Willaim the conquerer, Richard the Lionhearted, any English king for that matter, Charlemagne, EVEN THE FRENCH KINGS DID IT! That's saying something. You want to make a draft? That's dandy. Now get in the damn jeep and go fight with these suckers.

But I don't think it would happen anyway.
