The Vegans are trying to kill me! [Funny Story]
What if it were like, never truely alive?

Like an embreo. It doesn't really have feelings, thus it doesn't really live. Do you eat those?

I reckon it's a lot like popcorn shrimp.
I hate the flavour of seafood anyway.. And an embreo is well on the path towards life. Unlike carrots.

And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber. And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself. And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possesed me then. And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust." And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared, "Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.

Nice moral to the story.

This thread makes me want to eat some roasted, salted nuts. Although not soynuts...

And I have to say I have never heard a vegetarian say plants are not alive, and thus ok to eat. Plants are even more alive than we are, because they support our life, whereas we only support their death.

To maintain life, you must consume it?

Why be picky?

Hold on, I got a better one.

Why care?

The question isn't "why care?," it's "why shove your opinion onto others?"

Some people have a problem with the ethics of raising animals for meat. They're often raised in miserable conditions for the sake of efficiency. I also hear from some vegans/vegetarians that once you've gone without meat for a while, the thought of eating it becomes quite grotesque, almost as if it is inedible. I find that fascinating.

I don't think I'd ever turn down a rib and wing combo at the local steakhouse.

Ever.

Silly vegans and they're theories

Why did you go to the nurse for a soy nut? Just blow your nose, duh. Solids go out just as easily as liquids.

If they're against raising animals for eating, would they rather us eat diesease ridden animals from the wild, that would probably have been happier being allowed to roam about without fear of predators, and being fed all they wanted.

Then uh... brutally slaughtered, but hey, I'd rather get a quick death to be eaten later, than to be eaten alive and my guts torn out by something.

I don't think you realize the condition in which these animals are raised. The animals we eat aren't grazing in a field on a farm. They are confined to very small areas, cages and whatnot, with little to no room to move. They're basically standing (except for the ones that are forced to sit) in the same spot for their whole life, until someone puts them out of their misery. And, you're wrong, because we are eating disease ridden animals. Things like Mad Cow disease spread because of these horrible living conditions.

Knowing this, I still eat meat, because it tastes really ****ing good, but those animals really have it bad. Don't think for a second that they live like kings.

That's really only true for poultry. Usually, beef cows have plenty of room to roam and graze.

And even then, the poulty thing is just a rumour. There's no way to know for certain.

I mean serious dieseases, that farms and such prevent. Mad Cow isn't exactly all that serious, what with killing ~150 people out of millions apon millions.

I've been vegetarian for a year.. and meat does seem nasty. The thought of eating flesh just sickens me to the stomach.. But i dont force it on anyone, I couldn't care less if people eat meat, as long as they dont expect me to.

I came back from a chinese buffet.

about 85% of the stuff I ate was deep fried meat something-or-other.

To make veal in most cases the cow is confined to one spot its entire life and killed before it becomes very old, that was my point.

That's why it's so tender
2006-03-14, 4:20 PM #70
You can make meat tender by other, artificial means. The cow is just a lot younger.

Just because you think everything is done cruely, doesn't mean it is. I think tearing thousands of living things from their home then boiling them alive is more evil than painlessly killing something before eating it :\

But that's just me.

I never said that I think everything is done cruely

plus this isn't what vegetarians want. for example there are free range chickens which are grown on farms, but not contained in little cages their whole lives.
2006-03-14, 5:03 PM #72
Half of the Vegetarians out there don't give a **** about animals.
2006-03-14, 5:06 PM #73
Yeah.. its what animals are made of (youknow, animal..) that grosses me out, not how they live/die:p

Well that's fine, because it's purely opinion.

But ranting and raving about how they don't eat meat because people who raise animals for eating (Which has been done since like, forever) so they aren't terrible (taste wise, texture wise, and health wise) are doing it 'cruely' are terribly mistaken.

Go ahead and believe that KFC makes featherless chickens with six legs and no wings or heads. You're just going to get laughed at.

I'm not a vegetarian but I accept their reasons for being vegetarians, e.g. the cruelty of animals which does in fact happen.

I personally just don't care enough to give up meat and poultry

If God didn't intent for us to eat meat, then why did He make it so darn tasty?
