The mystery box
2006-03-14, 9:03 PM #1
This morning as I was standing outside, enjoying a cig and waiting for my car to heat up to go to work, I glanced up and saw the mystery box. It was crammed up between two metal beams in the covered parking structure. It was a raisen bran box, and was very carefully placed between the two beams. I was immediately tempted to pull it down and see what might be contained inside. However, it was broad daylight, so I opted to wait until I came home from work to explore the contents of the mystery box. Throughout the day, I considered the mystery of the mystery box, and decided that the box would contain one of 6 things. Here is my suspicion, and the ramification of what that may mean.

1) The box is empty. No big deal. I'll feel like a retard for obsessing over it all day, and toss it in the dumpster.

2) The box contains drugs. Interesting. Perhaps these drugs can be put to good use (but not by me, of course).

3) The box contains guns. Hmm, do I keep them or call the cops? Guns are kind of hot. Not sure I want to be caught with illegal guns. But then again...

4) The box contains cash. No brainer. Keep it. Just not at the bank.

5) The box contains a bomb. Which will likely go off when I remove it from its location. No big deal. I can live with death.. Or rather.. I can't. But I won't be around to worry about it.

6) The box contains Raisen Bran. I think I *won't* eat the raisen bran. Box will end up in the dumpster.

Anyway, I got home tonight, and climbed out of my car, intent on grabbing the mystery box. However, to my dismay, there were several people standing around. I'm on my way out now to check it out. I'll update later.

In the meantime, speculate on what the box may contain, and what kind of trouble I'll get in for disturbing it.

It's obviously a critical structural support in the parking garage and removing it will cause the whole thing to collapse on to of you.

update:

made another pass... 3 people still standing nearby. This is crazy. There's never anyone outside of their apartments at this time of night... And it's like... 15 degrees outside, and these people are just chilling.

I think I may have stumbled onto something big. I'm making another pass...

Stop being a f***ing coward and go say "Hey, did anyone see the box in between the beams? What's in it?"

If no one answers, look for yourself.

Just say it's your's and you fogot where you put it... Unless it's full of gay porn... The just say you saw someone else put it up there...

(Have you got it yet?)
2006-03-14, 10:54 PM #15
ok. whew. Sorry I took so long to get back. Got a bit... distracted.

So I made my third pass. My roommate and I stepped outside and approached the box. There was nobody around. She provided the lookout, while I reached up and grabbed the box. I put it under my jacket and we went back inside.

I pulled the box from under my jacket and glanced inside... Behold... the box was empty.

However, at that time I noticed a strange sticky substance on the outside of the box. It was clear, perhaps slightly murky, (remind anyone of anything? :| ) and it was all over my shirt...

I'm praying right now that it was simply glue from the box... But we may never know. :(

Ghetto Geocaching?

But really, what a disappointment. I has really hoping there was some Raisin Bran in there.

There was supposed to be a bomb in that box! I swear nothing ever gets done unless you do it yourself!

Better yet write "Mystery Box" on the side and put Raisin Bran in it and stick back up there.

Or even better, put a mouse trap up there ... no wait ... rig an elaborate trap so when someone goes to take it down ... WHAMO!

I say wrap a dollar in with a wad of greenish dollar sized papers and stick it back in there. It would be a great let down for the person who finds it.

No no no!

Put something cool in there and leave a note saying "Hey! You get this cool thing! Now leave another cool thing and leave the box."

It will be a fun game!

UPDATE:

I checked this morning before leaving for work, and there's a can back there (like a soup can, but with no label). Maybe there are drugs in there, and they put the box up there to cover up the can, where the drugs are stored...

I'll check tonight.

The mystery can now? It's not quite got that ring to it.

£5 says the sticky thing you saw on the box was old chicken soup.

More suspense! I can't take it!

When you remove the can and discover the mystery bag behind it, look in it BEFORE posting in the thread about how you're going to "check tonight". I'm dying here!

you've inspired me... after i finish my nerxt box of cereal i'm gonna put something in it (with the note someone suggested) and place it in some odd location

maybe even make a website for people who found the mystery box to say they found it, what it contained, and where they found it
