Casino Royale
2006-11-17, 12:18 AM #1
Casino Royale was quite possibly one of the best movies I've seen this year.
Although many people think that this new Bond doesn't fit the role, I can now say that you need not worry.

I did walk in expecting the movie to be incredible, but it took incredible to new levels.

The story was well thought out, and the character development was amazing.

I personally think that it's a vast improvement over the previous movie.

Even if you're only a little bit of a 007 fan, this movie is definitely worth seeing in the theatres.

I was one of the many who was pumped for this film when we were sitting through the opening adverts. I managed to resist a cheer when Daniel Craig did the turn-around-and-shoot-at-the-camera bit, but it was a close thing :D

Anyway, great film, but about half an hour too long in my opinion. I probably only think that because the theatre was sold out and I was in pain from not being able to move for so long :P

They definately got the grittier, more brutal Bond right though. And Daniel Craig played his part fantastically. Plus, it's miles away from the crap they've released lately.

Edit: And the new Bond theme is also awesome (Chris Cornell - You Know My Name). Just one more thing that Casino Royale has over the previous films.

Man, I'm really looking forward to it now.

I knew it would be good from the moment I heard Paul Haggis is involved.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Sitting in a comfortable 50 of 300 seats filled theatre during the Casino Royale premiere I was pumped. I loved this film. Admittedly it drags in some places during the third act - but wow - I was blown away. I have not seen all the Bond films, and Goldeneye has been my favorite for a while, but I think Casino Royale will take its place at the top now. I loved the film noir opening. The movie had me tense during a lot of the scenes, not the action scenes but the poker game, talk about tense. The only thing I did not really like about the film was the change in the beginning with the classic shooting at the camera. The barrel of the gun and the blood looked really weird to me for some reason. The opening credits were also kind of weird, but felt nostalgic of earlier Bonds.

Yeah, this film will definitely blow the last three James Bond films out of the water.

I didn't really expect this movie to be worthwhile, but I might have to check it out after hearing your glowing reviews.

Steven, the Friend with a Beard, Amy, and I are all going to see it tonight.

If I go see "The Return" with my girlfriend, she will see "Casino Royale" with me. It is a win-win situation, considering the fact that I secretly want to see "The Return".

The Return wasn't so great, wasn't scary and felt like it was an hour to long. Though, someone other than me might enjoy it.

I sadly wont get to see James Blonde until sometime next week. But I still am stoked about seeing it :)

The movie was fantastic. I love the new gritty and serious Bond who's more like an assassin. It also broke some cliches of Bond movies. I agree that the movie dragged on a bit at some parts.

Oh and in the beginning.
What was with the guy Bond chased in the beginning? He pulled off some Jackie Chan/Parkor style acrobats.
2006-11-17, 6:25 PM #16
Was it a bit too long? Yes. Was it amazing? Totally. Forget the past two Bond films, ignore Dalton's and Moore's turn at Bond. Don't even think about Lazenby. Daniel Craig was born to play this role. He brings a grittiness to the part, none of this flippant super spy nonsense. Whether or not this was a better reboot than Batman Begins and Superman Returns is certainly up for debate. Great movie, and hopefully they can keep this quality up for the next film.

His name is Sebastien Foucan. He and David Belle invented Parkour, and then Sebastian broke off and formed a style called Freerunning, which is basically Parkour + flips/tricks.

he's pretty crappin' awesome.

Omg, WANT. Too bad it's probably going to be out here only in the next month or so. I love James Bond, but all the movies after GoldenEye were a bit meh. Also, what do you mean the credits are weird? No abstract sexy images set to music kind of credits anymore?

The Queen of England was at the premier. Wow. I must say this was the best bond movie in the past I don't even know how many years. I want to see it over and over.

Excellent film. I'd never seen a Daniel Craig film before, but damn that guy can act. I, like many others, had my doubts when I first heard he would be Bond (based purely on his looks, I'll admit) but I think he was the perfect choice.

Anyway, I feel just like I did after I saw Batman Begins for the first time. This is the absolute best thing they could have possibly done for the franchise.
2006-11-18, 12:02 AM #26
I'm going out today to buy tickets for my friends for Tuesday. I am so freaking excited for this movie. I was kind of skeptical about Craig as Bond based solely on his looks, but then I saw a special about the making of the movie and knew I had to see it.

Plus it's got Sebastien Foucan! That's half the reason I'm going.

Oddly enough, there was a piece on the news about that very subject tonight.

Daniel Craig was in Munich and Layer Cake. Both great movies, and he was great in them.

Yeah, my girlfriend and I almost rented Layer Cake a few months ago, but ended up getting something else.

He was the dirtball in Road to Perdition as well, and I seem to remember him being in one of the Tomb Raider movies.

After I passed Norco and Corona, I kept getting stuck behind slow people in the fast lane. Once I got through Temecula I was going 90 easy. Almost pushed 100.

Yeah, this was actually a really good year for movies. In addition to Casino Royale and The Departed, there was also Lucky Number Slevin and Running Scared (and of course, Snakes on a Plane).

I didn't see Slevin, but The Departed, The Prestige, and Casiono Royale formed the trifecta of ****ing kickass movies i've seen in the past few months
