The Departed was a fantastic movie (up until the ending in my opinion) but I rate movies on a fun scale. I had more fun watching Casino Royale than I did watching The Departed.

Yes it is amazing. That is one of a number of movies i could count on one hand that almost made me cry. It's really just an incredibly thoughtful movie and it's given me plenty to ponder. I didn't expect that.

We went out for a drink after we saw the film, and I ordered a vodka martini at the bar as a (pretty tame) dare. I have to say...it tasted alright for the first few sips, but it was pretty disgusting. Then again, I don't like vodka, so I don't know what I was expecting. Happily for me, though, the girl who served me didn't give me a funny look when I ordered it. I wouldn't try it again, though.

She went to my school haha (long before I was there)

Anyways, just saw it tonight. It was amazing. Although at some points the plot twists seemed a little contrived.

Ending was quite clever.

I'm also an avid holdem player/fan so that part of the movie was also engaging haha

Most of the plot is lifted very well from the book - although they changed the card game: originally it was Baccarrat (sp?). It made the exposition seem a little less patronising ("He's gone all in!").

I love how they eliminated the chain smoking, but retained the genital torture.

(I do love the film by the way)

Do you know what parts aren't based on the book? The Bond in this movie is slightly different from the Bonds we see in other movies, and if this Bond is from the original book, does that mean they've been doing it wrong?

Okay, according to Wikipedia the only big difference in plot between the book and the movie is some of Vesper's background. (But not her actions)

The start sequence with the free runner, the black and white bits, the airport stuff ... basically everything either side of the casino setup. The bond in the books is a mysogenistic arse who smokes 80 a day but who is so damn hard. The torture scene in the book goes on for at least a day and a night and basically nearly kills him.

Yes they've been doing it wrong, and it explains my preference of Dalton over everyone but connery and craig.

In fact, I AM THE FIRST:

CRAIG > CONNERY > DALTON > BROSNAN > MOORE > LAZENBY

FACT.

I saw Casino Royale last night with 2 friends; indeed, that was one great film. Strong plot, intriguing characters, varied action sequences, clever scenes. Good ending. Definitely pwned the past 4 filims. I can't believe I wasted my time with Die Another Day when this was so much better.

The theme song was okay, nothing special. Likewise, the musical score kept the movie going but was just ordinary. Nothing can beat John Barry.

Yeah, until now the closest Bond in comparison to the novel character was Dalton hands down (way underrated!), but Daniel Craig actually satisfied the tough Bond persona quite well. And he had humor too, thus edging Dalton. Brosnan movies sucked with exception to Goldeneye. Roger Moore was a comedian in poor physical shape. Connery was a playa who treated spy stuff as a chore; banging chicks was of higher priority. Lazenby was lame.

Dalton was pretty bad *** in Lisence to Kill. They could have done the same thing with Die Anohter Day too. Hell, the first part of the movie set it up to be pretty dark, but they didn't go with it.

Oh, something that struck me as odd:
In the last hand of the tournament, Bond goes all in, and so does Le Chiffre. At this point I am nearly positive that Le Chiffre was still the chip leader, which would mean that at most he could match the amount of chips that the second-place player (Bond) had. In other words, even losing this hand, he shouldn't have been out of the tournament. Did I just miss something, or were they playing by different rules?
