Why wouldn't you want to play Doom III? Even if it is just Doom all over again, Doom was great, so I don't see how this needs to be anything different.

The first review in PC Gamer gives it a 94% and list the specs as:

PC Gamer recommends:
2Ghz CPU
512 MB ram
Radeon 9800
5-channel audio

Lowest supported GPU is a Geforce 4 MX (worse than Geforce 3)
Supported cards:
GF 4 MX
GF 3
GF 4
GF FX (and higher)
ATI 8500s, 9000s and higher

Looks like I'm all set!

thats just recommended.

note: they used a radeon 9800, but it supports as low as 8500, so its probably the same deal with proc speed. you can go lower and it probably won't hurt anything.

The University of North Carolina has finally found a network server that, although missing for four years, hasn't missed a packet in all that time. Try as they might, university administrators couldn't find the server. Working with Novell Inc., IT workers tracked it down by meticulously following cable until they literally ran into a wall. The server had been mistakenly sealed behind drywall by maintenance workers.

X-Box is just amazingly crappy looking. I mean usually the two versions of the game look somewhat similar, and not too bad, but looking at the screens, the X-Box dev just took no time texturing it. It's just laughably horrible.

That's because current PC tech is so far ahead of what the Xbox uses. Of course, if you can't afford a brand-new, top-of-the line PC, then you'd go with the Xbox version.

I never found Doom to be that great to begin with. I also prefer a little more plot to my games that involve killing lots and lots of things. I think I'll be passing this one up for awhile.

All you kids with your new-fangelled high-speed computers! I'm stuck running a 1B ghz (this is actually what my BIOS says, its really a 1.0ghz P3) POS with 384mb of RAM, and an ATI Radeon 7500 All-In-Wonder (i'm having enough trouble running my new copy of Ground Control II: Opperation Exodus, never mind Doom 3. There has been for a while. Doom 3 is linux native.

Phoenix--you just don't get the nostalgia man. I mean, the nostalgia! DooM is just the definitive beginning of FPS's, it began the 'trend'. And something tells me, eventually, it'll end it.

Oh I get it, but it just seems to me that I'd probably play it two or three times though and then it'd sit somewhere for awhile. It'd be fun for awhile, but if all I'm doing is running around blasting things away for little reason other than to save my *** , why play it over and over?

That used to be fun for me... Now... Now I want more out of game than that.

Phoenix--you really don't get the game at all if you think it's run and gun. It's tactical, challenging, friggin SCARY, and anything but run and gun. Why play it through over and over again? You don't have to. Did you play through all of your games over and over again? Multiplayer and mods are what's gonna maximize it.

The first was cool because it was true 3d and was the first FPS I ever played multiplayer against someone else, it has merit. The rest I played for about 5 minutes and then got awfully bored.
