So there's this new Harry Potter movie coming out...

Well I saw the movie, and while my sister didn't care for it, I enjoyed it quite throughly. Yay for not reading the books!

I thoroughly enjoyed it - and the two or three plot changes from the books noted here are the only ones I spotted (apart from in the background in the room of requirement you heard kids saying 'levicorpus'.)

My girlfriend just dragged me to see it. I thought it was pretty mediocre.

Just didn't enjoy it at all.

Even though I never read the book, I did enjoy the movie quite a lot. By the way, is there a reason why John Williams didn't bother to score the movie after the first (or did he do the sequel) movie?

He did Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban, but he opted out of scoring the rest of the films. Probably wanted to do other projects and not be tied to another franchise.

I thought the fight at the end was the best wizard fights I've seen on film. Put the Gandalf/Saruman "battle" to shame.

I think Peter Jackson expressly wanted to get away from any kind of flashy magic battles. You never see Gandalf blasting things with his staff, his magic always seems much more subtle. Besides, Gandalf wasn't really any match for Saruman anyways.

The book Dumbledore is always calm and smiling even in the worst of times (well except in the 6th book when something happens...), but you still know that you dont **** with him which Harris portrayed perfectly. Gambon's Dumbledore seems to always be on edge and ready to snap at any moment. His little flip out session in Goblet of Fire where he couldnt figure stuff out and he ranted about how "maddening" it was totally out of character. When Umbridge interrupts him in this last movie, he acts kind of angry and confused... where he's supposed to just give a smile and let her proceed. There's lots of things like that which make Gambon a far inferior Dumbledore.

No. This is not an actor issue. This is a director issue. And yes, Gambon would make the better Dumbledore if directed correctly. Harris, by far, had too much of a frail look to perform some of the tasks that Dumbledore had in the movies.

Maybe. 6 and 2 threes in my opinion. I think Harris had a far better demeanour for 90% of the screen time (the 'queit' bits) but Gambon probably will be in a better position to pull off the a**-kickery that takes up his other 10%.

Whether you'd prefer the 'money-shots' to look better for sacrificing the rest of the picture is a personal choice I suppose.

Personally I think Harris would've risen to the challenge and done a cracking job, but that's just me.

You know I think the reason I didn't like the movie, and have not really gotten into the stories that much is I don't find the central characters very interesting. I like Dumbledore, I love Sirius Black, Snape kicks ***, and Voldemort is a supreme badass. But all of these characters get like 8 minutes of combined screentime in this movie. I just felt like it was teasing me with how cool it really could have been.

Yeah, I agree. All the characters I love (same as the ones mentioned above) get the least amount of screen time. Especially Voldemort, who was in the movie a whopping five minutes.

Yeah and he has like 4 lines. Same with Snape. I swear, if I was him, I'd kill Dumbledore too. He might get more screen time if there are less people around.

It's not like Voldemort is in the books much. Grown-up Voldemort isn't even in Book 6 at all, as far as I remember.

Vin is correct.

I just find myself thinking the main characters are kinda boring. The characters that are actually interesting are ignored way too much.

Oh, I really wanted to see the scene where Umbridge and the Squad are going to capture Hagrid, and McGonaggal comes running up and everyone shoots her.

At least the delivery of Snape's lines were awesome. The audience (myself included) laughed at almost every single line he spoke (minus the intense Occlumency lesson ones)

Btw wizard battles are ****ing awesome. They actually managed to really convey who was strong/skilled/etc and who wasnt.

Auror entrances/(dis)apparitions (w/ the white light/smoke) vs. Death Eater (dis)apparitions (black smoke) was also very awesome.

Oh yeah, and Luna was oddly well-played as well. I absoluted hated Luna's character in the book, but she was probably one of my favorite characters in the movie. Go figure.

Yeah, Luna was cool in the movie.

And I saw it again. I think the thing at the end with Voldemort and Dumbledore isn't Priori Incantatum, it's different. There's lightning bolts all over and foam spewing and stuff.

Also, as far as technical stuff, this one is definitely the best. The special effects and CGI are all really amazing. And the sound and sound editing is awesome, I love the CRACKs and stuff when the Order is fighting the Death Eaters.

And the music is much better with John Williams gone.

But as far as acting goes, Harry and Ron are fine, but Hermione is still terribly overacting. All the senior actors are excellent, of course.

And I decided my favorite non-action scene in the film is when Harry is going up the staircase in the Black house and Kreacher is muttering to himself and the portrait. I don't know why, but that scene is just so spooky and awesome and cool.

I love the internet. The spoilers are already everywhere. I already know everything and I wasn't even looking for it.

I have some advice: stay the hell away from YTMND for a few weeks. :eng101:

Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.
