To Propose? (Never thought I'd ask Massassi this)

I'm dating the girl of my dreams and I've seen her every day for 6 months now. We don't live together. She lives about 5 minutes away. We just work. We've never really had any big fights, I'm very much into communicating EVERYTHING in a relationship and so we only fight over stupid stuff for about 30 seconds before we both realize we're being retarded.

To get to the point. She's amazing. She's beautiful. I've never even thought about this with any other girl I've dated. We've talked about it a lot and we both agree that we're too young to be married but wouldn't mind a long engagement.

Do I ask her to marry me?

Dude, here is how i look at marriage. It only lasts 2 to 3 times longer than you DATE the person anyways... so unless you want a 18mo marriage (thats about how long you will need to get to know her well enough to know what you dont want.)

If you still feel the same way after a year... maybe. I personally couldnt get married to anyone i havent been with for at least a year and a half, and i would have to live with them first. Living with someone changes everything. You may spend one week living with her and hate her.

You guys may fit together like a puzzle, but still be bored in a year. Do you guys have many common hobbies?

Even so, six months is hardly enough time to gauge your (hopeful) life partner. Wait up. If you guys are still serious in another year, you'll probably be more qualified to make such a decision.

I will have to say wait. 6 months is hardly enough time to get the full view of someones personality. I would say if you feel the same way in 2 years, do it.

O and "buttsecks" is the way to go, no matter what the choice......

Only 6 months?

Honestly man I was with someone for 6 months and I thought she was perfect. That failed miserably after a month or 2 more.

Im not saying you should or shouldn't but you should take the time to think about it since it only has been 6 months.

You should wait until after you have a big fight. Anyone can make up after small disagreements, making up after something important is where the true challenge is.

That's not to say you should go and look for a fight, just that based on what you've said you're not ready.

Pee in her butt.
That usually starts a big argument and if you get over it then you can get married.

Yeah, 6 months is way too soon in my opinion. But then I probably would never get engaged short of 6 years.

Knowing that it would be a long engagement anyways, I would wait it out a little longer. There really is no reason to get engaged in a hurry if you're just going to sit around and wait a year or two to get married. Besides, if she really is the one for you, she'll still be the one for you in a six months to a year when you get engaged. Give it a little more time and let your relationship grow even more.

I say go for it if these 2 cases are true:

you are over 21 yrs old
you did not lose your virginity to her

but yeah, at least wait another 6 months

The same thing happened to me. At the six month mark everything seemed perfect, then we immediately went down the tubes, and broke up a month and a half later. So, wait. I seriously doubt she's expecting you to propose now, anyway. So, enjoy it, wait a year or two, and see what it's like then.

In the meantime, might I recommend buttsecks?

Everything's rosy right now, and that's great. However, that won't always be the case. Besides, if you're really going to end up together, it doesn't matter when you get engaged or married. Take your time. There's no rush.

Holy crap, no. Wait until your feet are back on earth. It's hard to see someone's faults in the beginning, or spot the things that won't work between the two of you, because you're only focusing on other things. Having been through various long-time relationships, I can say that 6 months is really too short a time for such a big decision.

What does marriage mean to you? Does it mean that you're just solidifying your relationship? Does it mean that you're confirming your relationship to God? Does it mean you're agreeing to make it a forever kind of thing?

You should really define why you want to get married, and see if it makes sense to. Really, marriage is something that if it can't wait, it's probably too soon. If you can wait 3 years to get married and it's no big deal, then you really are in love. If you can't, then you might be a little too insecure about the relationship.

Eh, I think it's more or less a construct of human instinct. Keeps disease from spreading via venereal means, and helps us to concentrate on ourselves and our own advancement.

You should ask yourself.

I don't think the decision such as this one should be decided by some guys on an internet forum...

Ask your parents :P, better yet ask her parents :P

You are doomed if you marry her now if you have not thought it out completely. You are in a emotional euphoria. If you rush to marry her now, you will pay for it later in life when disagreements become wars. I have witnessed this in my own two parents. They let their emotions get the better of them and I witnessed 12 years of utter hell as I watched my parents nearly tear themselves asunder because they were equally stubborn in their resolves.

You tell me that she is "the greatest girl you have ever met." To me that screams that you are on 90% emotion/hormone and 10% logical. Yeah you may fight over stupid **** but that stupid **** compounds to where one of you snaps.

Before all you sods call me out on this, no, I've never had a relationship ever and I'm 26 years of age. At this point in life, I'm probably condemed to a lifetime of solitude and loserness. However, I have witnessed, first hand, my good friends go through some bad relationships to get some sort of idea. I have nearly ended up in the same boat of "oh man, she is/sounds like the girl of my dreams" only to turn out she really was not that.

If you are really ready to accept waking up next to your potential wife for the next 15+ years of your life, no matter how she ends up becoming, and knowing full well that the youthfulness will fade as you become engrind into the cruel world of the real and still want to be with her, then I'd say you are ready to marry her.

Actually, the way the sexes are designed, polygamy is a male thing. We don't have to wait nine months for babies.

Anyway, on topic...I tend to agree with everyone else so far. Give it time and see if you to can still stand each other. Say about another year. Then living together is a whole new experience. Being that I'm one of the few married -ians, I kinda know what I'm talking about. Don't know where all these single bastids get their ideas from:P

Not psychologically.

Anyway, marriage is overrated. I don't understand why two people feel the need to bind themselves together for the rest of their lives, other than for financial benefits. Unless there's a religious aspect (and I suspect there usually is), I don't see the difference between a couple that has been married for 20 years and a couple that is not married but has been together for 20 years. In fact the unmarried couple may be better off because they avoid all the negative stigma of marriage (both between themselves and to outsiders). But that's just a guess.

I think you're probably better off living together for a few years before you make any decision. It's like try before you buy. :v:
