I Am Legend
2007-12-15, 10:20 PM #1
I'm going tomorrow night to see it in Imax. I'm not sure if I'm more excited about the 6 minute Dark Knight preview or the movie itself.

Anybody see either already?

The 6 minutes of Batman were orgasmic.

Will Smith carried I am Legend well, but the cg zombies were a bit distracting.
Scary movie though, if you like getting startled, it's a good flick for that.

It was weak. I left very disappointed. The plot was explained poorly in the beginning, and left unresolved at the ending. The acting was well done, but like Phantom-Seraph said, the CG zombie monsters were only mediocre.

Overall, I was disappointed with the movie's general story. I have never read the book, so I do not know how accurate it was, but I thought the movie was very weak, and just an excuse for there to be zombies in New York for Will Smith to shoot.

I'd say it's a renter, or wait for it to come on HBO.

I, and all of my friends, have quite the opposite opinion. Great movie, or greatest movie?

I felt the way they revealed the plot created huge amounts of tension (even if you kinda guessed that the mom/kid were going to die three flashbacks before ). The ending to the story was left unresolved, in the sense that you didn't know if they found a way to reverse the disease fully , but there WAS an end to the plot. The PLOT did not follow mankind's fight against the disease. The plot followed Robert Neville's quest to find a cure. The movie began (in the timeline) with him helping to cause the virus and starting to look for a cure, and the movie ended with him finding the cure, and ensuring its safety .

I also thought that the Dark Seekers (zombies) were simple enough to be believable. They weren't over the top, which definitely would have ruined the movie for me.

And I didn't get the sneak peak! :awesomelon:

THERE'S A BATMAN TRAILER?
2007-12-16, 7:22 AM #9
In IMAX theatres there's a 6-minute prologue for The Dark Knight featuring the Joker in a bank robbery. In regular screenings of IAL there is a theatrical trailer for TDK that will be available online today at http://atasteforthetheatrical.com/ Or you can find a theatre bootleg on YouTube if you can't wait.

The movie was really good. They strayed from the book quite a bit, but it made for a very entertaining movie. The zombie/vamps don't look quite as I imagined they would... and I'm not so sure I like the addition of the "alpha male" infected. And the way they animated his facial expressions was laughable at best.

And the 6 minute Batman preview was 100% pure unadulterated win. I would've recorded it with my phone and broken any number of laws to share it with you, but I couldn't get all of the screen into view without holding my phone above my head.:awesome:

It was an okay movie. I want to read the novel because, from what I know, it is completely different (and it sounds a lot better).

Did anyone else think that the ending was a ripoff of Signs with "Butterfly" replacing "Swing away?"

I wasn't such a huge fan of the religious "god has a plan for all of this" bits, but eh. I still really liked it, and want to go see it again.

I think when Will Smith flipped out with the there is no god stuff, that was one of my favorite parts of this movie.

The tension in this movie was absolutely amazing, especially the scene where we first see the zombies after what felt like 5 minutes of darkness. I loved it. This was some of Will Smith's best acting. The zombies themselves weren't scary though, and the ending felt sudden and forced. It felt like there could have been another 15-30 minutes added there. Still, a very enjoyable movie.

I saw it last night, and I think Will Smith did an awesome acting job. However, I agree the CG was a bit eh (though the first time you see them in the dark was pretty neat) and I think the "religious" tone could have been done differently. Still, I'd recommend people to see it.

It made me really sad on a day where I was already depressed =_=

THE DOG DIDN'T HAVE TO DIE.

That aside, though, I thought it was really powerful and really well put-together. In the beginning when he was washing Sam and playing with her, I knew it was an emotional setup for Sam to die later ... and it just made me want her not to die even more and made it all the worse when she actually did. I pretty much cared about the dog more than Will Smith's character for the first half of the movie. Every moment was me on the edge of my seat hoping the dog was okay and that she wouldn't run off somewhere and get bit. After she died, though, Will Smith's character really came into the limelight ... the "TALK TO ME!!" in the store was really sad, as were his random bouts of craziness (?)

As for the animation -- I'm a bit biased, because I saw some of this when it was being put together when I was interning at Imageworks over the summer, but I thought it was pretty well done (Beowulf was better though). It bugged me that the deer and the lions, etc. were so obviously CGd, but there were a lot of other parts (e.g. the WHOLE of the pans of the abandoned New York) that you wouldn't even be able to tell were CG had someone not told you.

will smith's acting was pretty good, but the movie relied on computer graphics too much... it looked terrible.

This movie taught me an important lesson.

We, as the human race, must do everything in our power to prevent the creation of the zombie virus that produces agressive, highly mobile zombies.

I mean, zombies that can run and jump? ****. THAT. ****!

Actually, originally the zombies were going to be humans in makeup. They were going to cast a couple Parkour guys as the main zombies, at least, but the one guy casted for the lead kind of dropped the ball (and never showed up to shootings/never showed up on time, etc).

So why didn't they just find another guy that wasn't a douchebag? That would have been so much cooler.

Timing. It was easier to replace him with CGI than deal with the legal riggomorole of cutting him out and reshooting a bunch of crap.

I saw it last night, it was okay. Will Smith is a good actor. I think I preferred the "Omega Man" adaptation, though.

The book so far is fantastic. I think I'm of the "don't compare the two" camp, because the story is soooo different that it's like two entirely separate works.

It was much better (and very different) from I was expecting. However, I really didn't expect it to be so depressing. Sam's death was hard for me to take. Ugh...I cried so much. But I'm a girl, so I can get away with it. >_> I wasn't so much surprised by Will Smith's acting, just because I think I'm a closet Will Smith fan and I like most anything he's in. Anways, how they showed a slight evolutionary aspect to the zombies was interesting to me. The CG didn't bother me at all and really liked the alpha male's expressions. When he smiled as he was breaking the glass...it was just so creepy. Overall, great movie...not as good as No Country for Old Men, but I'm not even sure you could compare the two. I'm definitely considering picking up the book at some point.

I finished the book yesterday. It's pretty much one of the best books I've read in a long time. The story is so different from the movie that I didn't find myself comparing sections that were similar the whole time. Furthermore, there's a ton of exposition into the psyche of Robert Neville that simply doesn't get touched by the movie.

I didn't think the zombies/vampires are designed scary either, but the "jump-scares" do move me slightly. If the creature designs were more along the lines of 30 Days and Nights, the movie probably would be scarier. Then again the movie isn't suppose to be a horror flick. Yeah I also agree that the last third of the film felt like it was cut or something.

One big question in the film though.
Was the trap that Neville became caught in something he planted, but forgotten about or was it set by the head Darkseeker? The way the Darkseeker reacted against Neville catching one of their own, I thought he might have learned to imitate the trap Neville used. Also he seems to be able to have some form of intelligence with the attack they used on the house. They know how to take down the lights and he used a diversion tactic so he can get inside the house.

Then again I can see the other argument too with the trap being something that Neville forgotten about (along with Fred's placement) because of his madness. Still he doesn't really go crazy until Sam dies from what I saw.

One more thing, did Fred's head turn when Neville spots him in the middle of the streets or was I going crazy too?

Cloud,

I thought it was pretty obvious that the zombie made that trap. There would be no reason for him to make the trap himself, then leave Fred as bait. We also see Fred just two days before, and I doubt Neville would forget something like that so fast.

My friend said he saw Fred's head turn, too. I think you're all nuts.
