Also, in support of the "vampire set the trap" theory, there was no tarp/protective covering around the rope, as there was in Robert's trap. Thus, if he had set the trap and a vampire set it off, the vampire would be dead from UV exposure by the time he returned to the trap.

Yeah, I'm pretty much convinced it was the vampires trap, which made the entire thing really annoying to me. I think that the vampires setting traps and attacking them makes them too human, and makes the rest of their actions seem dumb.

I liked the movie a lot. I just read the plot summary of the book on Wikipedia and I must admit that it sounds completely retarded.

The book really isn't about the story, it merely serves as a platform to explore how humans react to complete loneliness.
