The 2008 Massassi Convention
2008-04-11, 11:31 PM #1
Massassi has been around for more than ten years now. This simple forum and website dedicated to a dead game has been a major part in the lives of literally dozens of nerds around the world. I have more close friends from Massassi than I do in real life (which is really depressing) and I'm sure many of you have gotten close with your fellow -ians. I think it's about time we took the next step.

I am happy to propose the 2008 Massassi Convention. Let's use this thread to discuss locations, dates, and other plans. If we get enough people, we can get discounts on hotels, transportation, and all kinds of other things. So let's do this for reals people.

I suggest beautiful Sandusky, Ohio. Because that's where Ach works. And it's pretty central to everyone. We can go to Cedar Point, the roller coaster capital of the world. And I'm sure there's other things to do there too...

As far as dates, it would need to be something in the summer, so more people would be able to attend. How about July 18th through July 20th? That's Fri through Sunday btw.

What do you guys think? Is a convention something we could actually manage? Or would it fall apart like previous attempts? What other activities do you think we should do? Bar night would be fun...

Also, perhaps if someone has a house we can party at, that would be a reason to change the location. (Sorry Ach).
2008-04-11, 11:56 PM #4
I'm guessing that drive would take about eight to ten hours for me. How long would this event last?

Not sure, this is really just a brain storming thread. How long do you think it should last? I think it should be at least a couple days, to justify people who will have to fly in, like me and the west coasters, and also the Brits.
2008-04-12, 12:00 AM #6
Sandusky? It's at the top of effing Ohio! Like, drive any further and you're in Lake Erie!

Surely somewhere like, say, Cincinnati would make more sense :p
2008-04-12, 12:00 AM #7
Hehe, I only suggested it because that's where Ach is, and she said she can't really travel. But I bet she could get down to Cincinnati.

I do love me some roller coasters though.

I don't think I'd go if it was down the street.

A lot of our members are in their late teens, or 20. A bar night wouldn't really work, but there better be drinking.

I know I'd lead the charge for a maryland-assi road trip up there.

This is why you all need to come to England. And further, you'd get to experience the famous binge drinking culture we have.:v:

I agree.

TO SCUNTHORPE!
nope.
2008-04-12, 7:27 AM #18
Maybe we should go to Canada. (Toronto ftw)

Ohio sucks. Why not something like a city or a remotely interesting place.

I think it would really depend on when all this would go down. >_>

Actually if you went to cincy you'd still be a good thousand miles or so from the server :p (it's in a datacenter in Texas)

If we do go to a bar, I'd only buy an alcoholic drink just to laugh at everyone not old enough to do so. :p But really, it's going to be hard to decide on a place.
2008-04-12, 8:03 AM #22
I could definitely make it in Cincinnati.
2008-04-12, 8:21 AM #23
I should make a note there is:

Kings Island - Which although not Cedar Point, is damn close. Numerous "record-breaking" rides reside here. It also has a massive waterpark attached to it (included in the price of admission), although you could spend a whole day on either side.
Newport Aquarium / Newport on the Levee
About 50 billion bars/restaurants
Coney Island - Largest recirculating pool in the world exists here. It's like a lake except with slides and diving boards and crap.
There's a PC Gaming center that I know about, if we wanted. It stays open late on weekends, and is only 10 minutes from Kings Island. (Planet Marsto's)

There's three major foods you won't get outside the cincinnati area:
Cincinnati Chili from Skyline or Gold Star Chili (I believe most prefer Skyline)
LaRosa's Pizza, which specializes in a thin "traditional" pizza with an amazing sauce. It's so good that despite being local, it outsells every other pizza company in the area.
Graeter's Ice Cream is renowned for being some of the best ice cream ever. After all, when has Oprah ever lied? :p

Anyway, in summary, while I couldn't host you guys here, I could definitely give you a good plan of things to do for a couple days, and if I'm not sick, possibly lead you all around :p

It's about 7 hours drive from here. I'd definitely consider going if enough people could make it.

I'd be game for Cincinnati as well. Very smooth easy trip from Wisconsin.

1) Have an event planned that weekend (Laguna Seca)

2) Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to far away from me.

I just realized that there were dates stated. >_>

Yeah...a 20+ drive for me just for the weekend. While I'd like to go, I've done a similar just-for-the-weekend-20+-hour trip before and it was a very bad experience. <_<

I'm not close to anyone on here. I don't even like you guys. Pfff.

But I would totally go if I had money or if it was exceptionally close. Neither of these looks like it'll happen.

I could do it. I'm supposed to go on a road trip to KS for my birthday (July 26th) so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

The dates are tentative. We can wiggle em around or extend em too. I'm not entirely convinced I feel like flying across the country for 3 days anyway.

So are we decided on Cincinnati? It seems like it works for a lot of people. Unless someone has a big house/apartment they'd be willing to share, which would be a huge help.
