Sandusky would work, especially because of Cedar Point. It gives people a great reason to go there other than Massassi.

Except Cincinnati has Kings Island, which is basically Cedar Point of the south. READ THE THREAD.

I'm actually moving pretty close to Ohio this summer.

But I won't be able to do anything because of school for the next like 2 years. :(

I didn't realize Cincinnati was on the far end of Ohio. Provided I have the time, I could still make it. Also, I'd be up for carpooling with anyone who doesn't live too far from the NYC area (that's mb, Chaz Ghostle and MZZT AFAIK)

Did you seriously just compare Minnesota to Ohio on the basis of music? Really?

There's a reason the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland. A lot of famous artists came from the area, the term "rock and roll" was coined there, and the first rock concert was held there.

Perhaps I suck at this but I could only find flights to Cincinnati as cheap as $550.

Besides, why go all the way there when everyone can come to San Diego. You know San Diego is better.

How far is that from Milwaukee? If it's under an 8 hour drive, I'm game.

Should be about 7. If this actually happens, we could probably figure out a carpool from the Madison/Milwaukee areas.

Doubt I could get the time off work, but it's under three hundred miles from where I should be living, come July. We'll see what I can pull.

Truth. I've been to both, and Cedar Point is way better.

As for the gathering, I probably wouldn't be able to attend. I really hate driving in the US, and telling people that I'm going to go meet a bunch of creepy internet people makes me creepy by association. No offense to anyone.
2008-04-12, 9:51 PM #59
I probably wont be able to make it. It's an 8 hour drive, and I will be doing stuff in the summer. If there is a similar East Coast gathering within two hours, I'm very game. I'm not far at all from the Maryland-assassis, and a couple others in Philly.

I'd take Aesop Rock over any rock any day.

Maybe I can get a flight out to there on work-related business and then take a few days of vacation...

Cincinnati is a nine-hour driver for me. There had better be something damned special for that.

Also, it'd be nice for us all to be in the same hotel.

I propose a pre-emptive ban on Internet memes at this get-together.

[ Also, given that I don't like roller coasters, could additional, non-roller-coaster activities be kept in mind? ]

yeah, roller coasters suck.

also, nothing good comes out of cinci. and skyline chili is awful. matt, how could you not know thta skyline chili is a chain that has locations at least throughout ohio. i can think of three locations i've been to that have them.

also, also, i'd still be game for sandusky though. the g/f would appreciate goin gto cedar point more than i would. and it'd be nice to go to an amusement park that isnt closed (Read: geauga lake. *fist shaking*)

also, also, also, cleveland wouldnt be a bad idea. plenty of hotels, rock hall and great lakes science center right next to each other, the Einstein exhibit will be there all summer. also theres a mars thing going on but it looks like its only for school related visitors. :( the science center is awesome though. and the cleveland museum of art is...well not quite within walking distance, but awesome none the less. the austrian armor will be gone, but an exhibit on the renovation of the museum will be there. ummm, museum of natural history, exhibit on planetary bodies which could support life. and then theres bars in the flats, shopping in coventry (big fun: the place where your nerdy toy dreams come true.) beautiful parks for cookouts, lakeside, or in the woods with ravines and cool stuff like that.

way more than "roller coasters" :P

Well it's not like we would spend every day at Cedar Point. I think a lot of us would enjoy at least an afternoon there though.

What other activities do you think we could do? We need some Achelois for this... maybe paintballing? movie? Ooh, I wonder if they have a Laserquest there.

[Closest is in Montrose]

A. Get out. Skyline is amazing.
B. "Throughout Ohio" being nothing beyond Columbus. There's about 5 locations total from anything north of Columbus.
C. Skyline isn't the only thing either.

And Cincinnati has numerous museums also. They've got that controversial "Bodies" exhibit right now actually. And of course quite a few parks.

Yes, because, you know, it's impossible to like two kinds of chili. Skyline chili is totally different than other "typical" styles of chili.

we also have an african american history museum which is pretty cool too. has the very first traffic light and gasmask on display there. (garrett a. morgan: a clevelander )

and the western reserve historical society which has cool cars (including a DeLorean) i'm pretty sure is free too.

There's none in bowling green now, it closed.

Also, we have the Urban Freedom center, which is brand new.
2008-04-13, 9:50 PM #80
darn. i thought i would win with the DeLorean. that holds no candle to an Urban Freedom Center....

really, i dont remember why i hate cincinnatti anmore. maybe its the excess consonants.
