We'll definitely need some gaming going on. Computer, consoles, cards, hell even some pen and paper if enough of us feel like nerding it up that much. I don't know if I would travel with my PC, but we definitely need Brawl, and I wouldn't mind a night of Poker.

I'm flying, so I can't bring my PC, and I'm not sure about bring a Wii on a plane. But I'm sure someone driving can bring one and we can have a tournament at the hotel.

Well, it seems that most people are on board for an Ohio location. Unless anyone has some major objections, an awesome suggestion, or a house we would be able to use, tomorrow I'll make a poll to decide between Cedar Point and Cincinnati.
2008-04-14, 1:45 AM #87
An alternative would be to hold a separate East Coast convention in a place like Philadelphia, since there seems to be a lot of us on the East Coast.

Hm, this would be a lot easier if we could make a map of all the people that are interested in going. Is there some web app that will let us do that? I seem to remember one... I'm flying anyway, so a few hundred extra miles wouldn't be a problem for me. The reason I suggested Ohio originally is because Ach is one of my favorites, and she won't be able to travel.
2008-04-14, 5:39 AM #89
If you do the map thing everyone's going to vote for their own city :p
2008-04-14, 7:18 AM #90
I wouldn't vote for KC. It seems pretty obvious that, wherever it's held, I'm on a plane (assuming that we're speaking only of the contiguous U.S.).

Also, it'd need to be a hotel near the airport, and we also need to think about transportation. Perhaps, maybe, we could get people to chip in on a car rental (four people go in together, given that most of us are < 25 and would get charged ridiculous amounts of money)?

Both Sandusky and Cincinnati are only about 2.5 hours away from me. :D
2008-04-14, 11:15 AM #92
Pah I'm basically either in California or Philly :(

I'm amazed, though, at how many Massassians are relatively close to Cinci. Vinny was right on the money with the spot haha.

If we stick with Cincinnati, I will be more than happy to help set up a schedule of things to do (based on what you guys want to do), print out maps for everyone to use, give some good ideas of hotels worth staying at here, and assuming I don't get sick, I'll drive some around/follow the leader :D

Also, you won't want to stay near Cincinnati's CVG airport, as it's nowhere near anything. It's actually just across the border (in Kentucky) and thus like a 40 minute drive to get anywhere.

Honestly, the best area might be the Mason area. Not only is it only a minute from the highway, but it has a lot of hotels to chose from, plenty of fast food/stores/etc. There's Wal-Mart, Wendy's, Arby's, Taco Bell, Skyline, McDonalds, White Castles, Waffle House, TGIF, Buffalo Wild Wings, Culvers, LaRosas, and about 50 other sit-in restaurants, tons of shopping for those who are into that, Kings Island, Regal movie theater, Marsto's (That LAN gaming center), and all that literally only 5 minutes or less from the hotels. Much of it is actually walking distance. There's also the the LaRoche castle about 10 minutes away, which although small is really damn cool (guy built it himself stone by stone).

And then jumping on the highway gets you to downtown Cincinnati in about 30 minutes, where the museums are.

http://ecincinnati.com/entertainment/events/ has a good summary of stuff to do in Cincinnati itself.

I would go but with the rising price in gas plus the amount I have to pay for the apt. and also the fact that I'm a poor college student pretty much leaves me out of this one. Otherwise, I'd probably be able to make the trip from State College.

CM, that sounds awesome. It looks like Cinci is our place.

What about the dates? July 18th through July 20th? Should we go longer?

We could always join up with the Maryland group and carpool.

After some research, it will cost me about $160 in gas alone to make it. The cheapest round-trip ticket I saw was for $350. I'm still thinking about it, but I know it will be pricey while down there, too. I'm estimating a 10% chance of me making it.

3 days should be enough, really. Kings Island could take an entire day, but the rest of the events aren't terribly long. I could come up with a rough schedule once I know what everyone is interested in doing, or I could leave it somewhat open, and just print maps out for the Hotel - to - X so you guys can go wherever you want whenever you want.

Visiting stuff outside downtown Cincinnati should probably be a priority, as it's much easier to get around and generally cheaper. Downtown you have to pay for parking and since it's a city you're dealing with the usual one-way street crap.

Oh, and there's a couple Putt Putt courses I know of, we could get our game on there :D

3 days doesn't seem long enough. Those of us driving a long distance would be arriving mid-late afternoon on the first day, and leaving morning-early afternoon on the last day, so maybe add an extra day or 2 just to plan for that. I drove to Gen Con 2 years ago. That was a 12 hour drive for a 3 day convention. I actually swore I would never drive that distance again after that.

A game of miniature golf would be awesome. It's one of my favorite reasons to go to the boardwalk.

So, wait: should I fly in on the 18th, or come in on the 17th if we're starting everything on the 18th?

That's why we're discussing. What would prefer to do Wolfy?

Personally, if I'm flying, I'd like to stay more than two nights. But that might just be me.

I can cite at least four prior or current roommates who will give me good reviews. When do you need my résume?

I'd like to hang around for more than two days, myself. I figure, fly in late on Thursday, fly out early on Monday/late on Sunday.

Me too Wolf. Maybe we can have two schedules, the long 4/5 day version and the 2 day version.
2008-04-15, 7:23 AM #109
What I meant by 3 days was three full days :p

Didn't realize anyone else on here was from State College. You actually from here or go to school here?

agent: I live there and go to PSU Harrisburg.

Vegiemaster: That might work; I'll have to see what's going on... it depends on if I have an internship this summer and if I have anything else planned.

I'm pretty sure everyone attending would be over 18 at least, so it (shouldn't) be a problem, depending on local laws.
