Going after the man with a large knife on a bus IS extremely dangerous not because of the odds against a knife-wielding man but the fact that, in a bus, there is only a narrow central path to traverse. Unless you know what you are doing, a confined space would provide him with a lot of knife fodder. Hard to "gang-up" on him.

The victim wasn't beheaded until he'd been stabbed dozens of times. According to the article, he screamed after being stabbed the first time. In my mind he could have been saved if a few people near the back of the bus subdued the guy.

Yeah, I'm sure you will do just that when your on a bus with a guy with a rambo knife stabbing.

A bunch of unarmed people who can only really come at him one at a time down a narrow walkway vs some guy who's frenziedly stabbing a man to death with a big ****ing knife?

The guys who grabbed everyone's attention and got them off the bus saved as many lives as was physically possible, the victim was full of holes and a long way from medical attention before people even knew what was happening.

It's not ethnocentrism on my part, it's more a comment on the media. I'm not familiar with the procedures in Canada so it could be that they won't release that type of information until the investigation gets to a certain point. American media, however, is likely to downplay ethnic background unless of course the criminal was a white male and hopefully even Christian. Had this incident happened in America I would have given it about 70% Muslim, 25% illegal alien, 5% other. Had there not been a beheading muslim and illegal would have been more evenly split.

Call me what you want, but odds are, on this sort of incident, that I am likely close to the truth. We'll have to wait and see.

ya know, I never used to care about race, you are what you are and I don't like you if you piss me off or something, but since I moved to Alberta, them natives just downright piss me off... the immigrant's and Canadian born ethnic people I don't mind. this is especially after working in a credit and collections call center for gas... I swear, 90% of the people we cut of for non-payment are native and they were cut off cause "Their band office" was suppose to pay for them. GAH.

anyway, Thats really bizarre and really is kinda shocking for happening in Canada, it's not very often you get something like that happening here, or at least thats hounded by FOX and CNN for 3 weeks because the killer might have been white, or black, or brown... and analyze it for a month in the media and host call in shows....

although there has been a lot of violent incidents out in Western Canada in the last few weeks, just a week or so ago a 50yr old man was shot by police in a parking lot after a stand off with a shotgun not far from Edmonton.

Pretty freaky, didn't think something like that would happen in Canada.

Canada has a lot of minority gang crime and there's tons of violent crime committed by natives, you just don't hear about it because our news companies deliberately steer clear of the issue. For better or for worse Canada is still full of people - monsters, all - and over the past few years we've even had a lot of immigration from the United States so if you want to pretend that crime is primarily a local problem it's logical to assume at least some of it has migrated north.

Anyway, I'm casting my prediction that the guy who did it is white.

Me too. Flipping out and beheading a random stranger is a totally white thing to do. It just seems like the mental cases are more likely to be whites, whereas blacks/hispanics/etc. seem to do it for money/drugs or at least a purpose.
