I'm tempted to buy a PS3..
2008-10-09, 1:50 PM #1
With Sony's credit card offer, I can get one for 250 bucks. I'm planning on getting an HDTV this year, and they would make a perfect pair...

So, Massassi. What do you think?

You don't have a HDTV yet?
/slap

.. Sony credit card = 250 PS3? Tell me more.
2008-10-09, 1:53 PM #3
Or you could get a 360 for 250, and not have a crappy sony credit card.

No interest for 12 months, either. Link

Hmm I really want to get a Blu-Ray player .. I'm tempted to do that. But I also would rather have a 360 .. and Blu-Ray rumors are sparking again for that..

But yea, that's a great deal go for it.
2008-10-09, 2:01 PM #6
I don't know much about consoles, except that my stack of PS2 games won't work on the PS3. Is there any other reason I should consider a 360, considering that the price is now the same?

You can get a Bluray player for $150 using this deal- look for the Sony BDP-S350.

It boils down to what do you want to play?

Woah, you can't play PS2 on PS3? Bogus!!
FYI though - $250 Xbox doesn't give you a HD to save games on. So take that into consideration.

Actually, the arcade version is $200, the 60GB HD Pro is $300, and the Elite is $400. You can sometimes find the 20GB HD Pro also, if you look hard enough. That one is $260.
2008-10-09, 2:11 PM #10
Ehh... I'd rather buy one and not risk the credit companies shipping me a trees worth of junk mail a month. I already get Best Buy ads every week. I tried to get a card there once, got denied, then paid $1500 cash for a TV there, now they are all up my *** about offering me a card. F*** YOU BEST BUY!

I'm a frequent recipient of CC offers already- more so before I moved, though. Another card won't bother me..

Did you see the 37" Westinghouse 1080P LCD for $574.99 shipped at woot.com? :XD:

I picked up a 26" DVD combo LCD for 450 a couple months ago.. Killer deal!
But I was just thinking you'd never use up all that HD space .. I'm hunting on Ebay for 20/60 HD bundled with games. I think that's what the best option is.

don't forget the low bitrate... HD VOD averages 5-6Mbps for the video with likely 384 or 448Kbps AC3 audio... most bluray is 20-30Mbps for the video with many having a lossless audio track

and as far as JLee's temptation to buy a PS3... if you want it, buy it... you'll still need an HDTV to fully enjoy the system... the games just look better in HD and of course so will blurays (which the PS3 will downscale to SD in case you are wondering) and there are some good titles available as downloads

just remember if you ever want to try to play lair... just smack yourself in the nuts with your controller for a few hours... it's about the same experience

My PS3 plays PS2 games. How lucky :D

I like my PS3. I just don't have the money for the games I want. Those will come in time, however.

yeah but you have to be really lucky to find a PS3 that can new... i doubt any stores have any 20 or 60GB models left and you'll have a hard time finding the 80GB in a store

used or second hand new from ebay, craigslist, whatever is another story

and games... i have 4 not including downloaded games from the PSN Store... partly because i stick to exclusives on the PS3 (soul calibur 4 will likely be the first non-exclusive i'll buy on the PS3 because of Vader) mostly because i prefer the 360 controller to the sixaxis and dualshock 3

Little Big Planet could possibly be my undoing. I want to play this game and nothing else forever.

Well a 360 can't play your old PS2 games either so I fail to see how that changes anything. :/

I'd go for it personally, good deal and theres plenty good games on it now. And WIPEOUT HD MOTHER****ER.
nope.

I'm pretty content with my PS3. I've never been comfortable with the Xbox controllers. ( Lived with a roommate that had one so I am experienced with them) The dualshock just feels more right. I Have a 1080p Plasma Screen TV. Bluray is killer on it, as is the gaming. I'm not knocking a 360, its just that the PS3 works for me.
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

You said it! I can't wait!

I also can't wait for Killzone2, I'm itching to give it a go.

You're out of luck. The 80GB with PS2 Backwards compatibility just stopped being produced, around a month ago or so. I got mine in August right before they stopped production, along with MGS4 (which totally pwns) ;)

Haven't tried any blu-ray movies... No HDTV xD

I like the free online play. Might not be as refined as Xbox Live (which I still don't find that great) but it's definitely good enough.
2008-10-10, 2:31 AM #29
I love my PS3. I got the 40GB version without the backwards compatibility which sucks but I still have my PS2 so it doesn't matter to me that much.

MGS4 is badass, of course.

Resistance: Fall of Man is surprisingly addictive and cheap. (I got it at Gamestop for $19.99)

CoD4 is badical, although I let my friend borrow it 3 months ago and haven't seen it since.

Soul Caliber IV is addictive as hell.

I have more games, I just forgot.

I've never really gotten into the console gaming thing much, but I think if I had a halfway decent TV, that might change. My PS2 hasn't been fired up in months...then again, if I was playing PC games on a 15" CRT, I might not play them as much either. :P

With Netflix's blu-ray stuff, I'm sorely tempted..
woot!

X-Box Live >>>>>>>>>>> PSN, even with the cost. There's just so much more content, and players on it.

I don't understand the appeal to this game. Someone explain it to me.

It looks very cute, but the sandbox elements seem quite limited.

Soul Calibur 4 is identical in both versions, at least, it will be once the DLC comes out. PS3 is getting Yoda, and the 360 is getting Vader. That's why there's the extra slot at the top of the character menu.
2008-10-10, 9:58 AM #38
Get a 360, I think most of your massassian friends have one
