I just got this game today and I've played it for about three hours. I've really liked it so far but I can see things getting repetitive. It's fun, though.

The blood spray is stupidly over the top.

I think he means larger groups of them spread out in wider areas rather than confined. More like Crysis: you hit a big convoy of enemies, then run around a bit sporadically hitting enemies along the way, then another big convoy or town, and so forth.

If the aesthetic of the game is part of what you enjoy, "driving from point x to point y to kill x number of guys" is really fun :). I love stealing a car, driving through the jungle, coming out into the hills, ditching the car on the side of the road and creeping between boulders, picking an ambush spot and taking out the weapons convoys. Total time spent shooting in those particular missions for me is probably 2 minutes, and the setup time is probably 10.
2008-10-24, 3:41 PM #46
I'm going to buy some IEDs next. I still enjoy the game, I'm just worried that it will get repetitive. I have seen some larger camps though. I haven't gotten very far yet, so I don't know for sure how everything will turn out. There definitely could stand to be fewer jeeps though.

I hope my brother buys this so I can play it over the Christmas holiday.

brb pirating game

Would everyone say it's worth a rent? or save the 2 bucks?
DO NOT WANT.

I've been playing it for a little bit so far.. I can't really seem to get into it. I don't know what it is. There's an issue with the mouse lagging a bit in DX10 mode on the PC version, some people say disabling dx10 works some don't, but to me the game still feels clunky. Personally, I would rent rather than buy.
2008-10-24, 6:42 PM #50
It's mouse acceleration that makes it feel like it's lagging. It's like mouse smoothing, only more irritating and for some reason you can't turn it off. Putting the sensitivity at maximum gets rid of most of it, I've found.

Probably a remnant of the game's console development. Like the broken saving system. Did you guys realise that quicksaving creates a new save file every time? I had about 80 of them after the first couple of hours.
2008-10-24, 8:13 PM #51
Some people have complained about mouse lag, but it hasn't effected me. It should be patched or worked around soon.

I've found exploring, especially up north, to be quite fun. The games pretty addictive when you aren't rushing from one point to another to do little chores.

2 minutes to ambush a weapons convoy? What went wrong? Only takes me 30 seconds to take out a convoy with my trusty RPG. :p

There was one time in the second chapter where I decided to get inventive with the weapon convoy ambush. I parked my jeep on a bridge that they were going to cross and then ran to the side they were going to come from. The plan was to force them to stop or slow down and then blast them to hell from behind. It worked, just not how I intended. When the lead humvee and the supply truck reached my jeep, they just ran off the bridge into the water, giving me a mission complete. Pretty bizarre.

You'll get to the end of chapter 1, get a couple unique missions, then go into chapter 2 which is basically the same as chapter 1 except you're in a new area. You'll also get the AR16 in chapter 2, which is fricken sweet.

The more I play this game, the more plot holes and bugs I get to witness. My biggest gripe now is it doesn't matter how you complete a mission, the game already has a script it must follow in terms of what little story it has. For example, I went in the back way to kill that UFLL leader on that last mission in chapter 1. It was very stealthy, in and out. Yet I get back and it says the other faction betrayed and ambushed me there. Um...no they didn't. Also, any kind of choice you're given is completely superficial. I've yet to see how my decisions affect the game at all.

I will continue to play, however, since I can't stand having an unfinished game. And I'm enjoying the AR16 too much.

I like to snipe the gunner out of the lead humvee, then hit the truck w/ a rocket, then polish off the troops that jump outta the humvees by running around from cover (trees, rocks, burning vehicles) to cover and picking em off.

I tried that same trick w/ blocking the road, but not on a bridge... just in a little ravine in the jungle... the lead humvee went around it to the left, but the truck tried to go on the right side, and ran up against the rocks on the edge of the road... it stopped, the driver got out, etc etc...

If this game had a co-op mode, I could forgive some of its short comings. This would be an awesome game to put on the hardest difficulty and go at it with a friend. I wouldn't have to worry about split screening either since I have the PC version.

Oh, yeah, that would be amazing.
2008-10-25, 1:08 PM #56
Finally got it. I'm furious with Ubisoft. No split-screen? Wtf.

I have the PC version, not a big deal, but I was hoping to play my bro's maps with him on his Xbox. What idiot doesn't put split-screen in a game that has a map editor? It just seems stupid. The only reason I'd buy a console is for split-screen anyway.

I didn't like the gunplay at first, I somewhat got used to it, but I'd play Crysis or CS:Source over this any day.

Speaking of Crysis, Sandbox2 > Dunia Editor. 'nuff said.
2008-10-25, 1:22 PM #57
Yeah, in addition to being overly simplistic, it has a ridiculous map size limit. In fact you can't even adjust it.
2008-10-25, 1:40 PM #58
Enjoying it so far (bar a bizzare mission)

Currently going to unlock gear from arms dealer (have PKM and can do a mission for an AK)

Love the wtf moments in the game (Guy with RPG in chest which didnt go off right away was nasty)

The single player aspect is awesome though. I'm not too far in, but so far I like it. But I wish there was a little more to it.

Should I upgrade my ram, dudes? And by that, I mean add a gigapoxel of RAM to my RAMsticks cache/cachet?

What, really? You can hit a guy dead on with an RPG and there's a chance it'll stick in there for a bit whilst he flails around? Sick*!

* Awesome!
2008-10-27, 10:45 AM #64
LOL. Yeah

My bro killed a guy on a boat (he was using the turret) and he just stood there. We were like "wtf?". Then we started to shoot him, and he still stood there. So my bro was like "That's it. Rocket time." Shot him in the face, blew up the boat.

It flipped all over the place, the guy was still standing inside!

Too many glitches lol

On the subject of Video cards, I'm running it on Ultra High with an 8800GT and 2GB of RAM, at 1280x1024 on DX10 (apparently it's faster this time, and I think it shows). Outlaw, you should definitely be able to play it :D

Heck, I even have Physics cranked to their max, with my crappy AMD x2 4200+ (2.2GHz) and it's still playing fine.
2008-10-27, 11:57 AM #65
Can someone help me optimize my settings? el oh el I've played the game for about four hours and probably three of those hours were spent playing around with different settings. [Edit: now I'm on the first mission and I went the blue route, died, got saved, then died again. It was immensely satisfying picking of the sniper, storming in, forcing the informant to provide false info, then HACKING HIM TAKING HIS GUN AND SHOOTING HIM IN THE BACK BUWAHAHA though.]

I have an Athlon 64 5400+ 2.8Ghz, 2 gigs of ram, and (sigh) a 256MB 8500GT.

The only way I've gotten it to run at an acceptable framerate is if I'm basically using all low with a few mediums with AA off. If I do this with 1280x720 it's fine. AA KILLS it. If I leave AA off I can use Medium or Medium-high settings and be between 20 and 30 fps I think but the game still looks really choppy. (Btw, how do you turn on FPS display? I edited the GamerProfile.xml file but I still can't get the FPS to show on-screen).

Also DX10 doesn't work because I have this hooked to my HDTV and for some reason nVidia + DX10 = stupid card can't figure out how to display correctly resulting in 3/4ths of the screen being black and only the upper left hand corner having video -______-

'showfps 1' in the console (~).
2008-10-27, 7:39 PM #67
Dude, I don't know if this is a bug or something but it's really irritating --

I saved at one of the blue boxes in Pala (cease-fire zone). Then I left and got in a gunfight. I was going to die, so I quick-loaded that last save point. The game for whatever reason "remembered" that I had been in a fight and "thought" that I was firing in the cease-fire zone, so everyone came at me and I got the "run away from the cease-fire zone" warning. From then on no matter what I did EVERY TIME I loaded that save people immediately started attacking me. I had to run far, far away and overwrite the save for the game to start without people shooting at me -_-

is anyone else have multiplayer issues? i get 2 problems:

1) Log in works fine, but then I get the error message, "unable to retrieve your personal ranked statistics...". I would be unable to play ranked matches because of this... if I could even join a server in the first place (see problem 2).

2) When I search for a server, I get the error message, "Your account has been disconnected from the Far Cry 2 server." It then sends me back to the MP login screen.

****ing sucks... also, I've opened my ports/disabled firewall/all that jazz. Still no luck, ****.

Okay I've been playing for the evening, and I must say this 'drive through a guard outpost you cleared 5 minutes ago and get ambushed by yet another jeep' thing is getting reaaaalllyy old. I just want to drive to my damn mission without stopping every 2 minutes to clear out another outpost! Also the enemy AI is once again, hyper-sensitive to the point where it just pisses me off. I'll be sneaking up to an enemy, when he'll suddenly see me through the bushes and hit me, followed up by every other guard in the area. Is stealthy gameplay even possible in this damn game?
DO NOT WANT.
2008-10-27, 9:28 PM #72
I've been playing with the editor, and it's not bad. It's nothing compared to Sandbox2, or ZED, but it's definitely nice, especially for average console gamers. Made my first FC2 map in about 1 hour, and it looks pretty nifty.

Haven't tried stealth yet, but you're right, guard posts ruin it for me.
2008-10-27, 10:14 PM #73
This is officially bulls***. I snuck up behind a dude with a sniper rifle under a nice shady tree, very quietly took him out with my machete, and he didn't make a noise. Instantly, someone 50 yards away with a freaking AK homed in on my location and the entire outpost started shooting me. There goes any semblance of stealth! Damn, the original Far Cry was much better than this s***. May not have been as pretty or as open, but the gameplay was far superior.
DO NOT WANT.
2008-10-27, 10:33 PM #74
I've found you gotta apply different tactics... It's true that they're better at finding you, so you gotta relocated often... it's actually HIGHLY effective... shoot, dive into the shrubs, spring around the side off a building and flank them... they'll be homing in on where they saw or heard you, and you can cap em in da back of the head or something
2008-10-27, 10:54 PM #75
My point was that there is no way they should have possibly found me in the first place. There is no way to take out any one man silently in this game, which is a real disappointment given the fact that you're waging guerrilla warfare and stealth is a necessity.
DO NOT WANT.
2008-10-28, 12:28 AM #76
I haven't tried it out yet as I just cleared the mission that unlocks it but there's a pistol with a silencer on it. Surely (hopefully?) that would keep you stealthy?

Also I find that as long as I snipe from far enough away (read: enemy is less than half the height of the scope in the scope) I stay unnoticed <_<

The "loudness" of the machete is really annoying, though.

Far Cry 1 sucked. 'nuff said. Gunplay = worst pile of **** on the planet. Pretty similar to this one, actually.

Very disappointed with this game. I was looking forward to it so much too...
2008-10-28, 12:53 AM #78
Silenced Makarov, Silenced MP5, Dart Gun, Camo Suit. You will be a stealthing nightmare.

Stealth seems to either work really, really well, or not at all. Usually when you're trying to use stealh during the day, but you can still have some success.

For that one mission where you have to blow up the gas tank in the train yard I waited until night, stealthed in, shot a couple of guys with the dart gun and silenced MP5, placed an IED on the underside of the cart, stealthed out and then detonated the bomb as I casually strolled away into the brush.

Other times during the day when I'm crouching through bushes some guy 100 yards away will spot me and ruin my carefully laid plan.
2008-10-28, 10:22 AM #79
Oh for the dodging patroling vehicles (or guard posts that you try to avoid)

I head for boulders and wait for the carnage. I had one guys vehicle scream in from the side, flip over and suddenly 2 guys are on the underside of the vehicle?.

Fire is good though :D
2008-10-28, 11:00 AM #80
What's wrong with the gunplay? I remember in FC it was kind of ungainly, but that doesn't seem to be an issue in this one

Are my standards too low?
