Far Cry 2

I don't like the mouselook. Many games, including all the BF games (I haven't played BF2 or 2142 though) have terrible mouse controls. FEAR's is pretty bad, too. The ideal examples are Quake 3 and the UT games, they do it perfectly. Many others seem to just fail. I don't get it.

Yeah, Emon has it. FC2's mouse controls are terrible. That's why I don't like it - it's the same as the original FC. They did use Cryengine1 for it, so that's probably why the "feel" is so similar.

I really liked Crysis' Mouselook. Moved just right.

You can get used to it, through. BioShock's mouselook is downright miserable. It can't be effectively tweaked, either. The lowest possible sensitivity is still at least 3 times too sensitive for what I like.

What kind of factors are involved in getting that right? Obviously speed is adjusted by the user, so are there acceleration curves that make the difference or what?

Unless I'm totally misunderstanding what mouselook is

LOL I just set several miles alight.. bought a flamethrower and went mental...

So, what are people's loadouts?

Mine is almost always Silenced Makarov, AR16, and an RPG(the RPG just seems to get to the target quicker than the other rocket launcher).

I was actually pretty excited for the dart rifle, but then I saw how ridiculously few number of rounds you could carry, even with the ammo upgrade, and got rid of it. Otherwise I was going to eventually go Semi-auto grenade launcher, MAC10/Uzi, Dart Rifle.

Actually, the mouse controls aren't too bad in FC2, just played a bit. It's the characters movement I don't like. I feel like he's being chugged behind me, like I'm forcing him to move.

Anyway, I just noticed a sexy detail I don't think I've seen in a game before - I drove over some grass, and it flattened. Awesome.

My loadout is usually Silenced MP5, Silenced Makarov, Flamethrower. lol
2008-10-28, 1:16 PM #88
Also, concerning the MP5. I was seriously considering going MP5/MAC10, but it seems like if you don't kill someone with the first bullet from a silenced weapon, it might as well not be silenced at all because everyone else will immediately become alert to your presence. And since the makarov is ridiculously and unrealistically accurate, I figured I might as will stick with that for my stealthing needs. I've only had one instance where I had to plug a guy with more than one shot and he didn't alert the whole god damn area to where I was.

uzi/dragunov/carlgustov currently

Heh, despite the negative comments on the game, I can't help but be hooked...
2008-10-28, 9:07 PM #91
Yeah I love the game haha

I'm not that far yet (4 missiosns completed, 2 of them weapons shop missions) so I don't have that many weapons ... I'm currently using an MAC10/a magazine-fed sniper rifle I picked off of an enemy and then kept through 2 missions/the rocket launchr. Sniping seems to be my operating mode of choice ... does anyone have any alternative strategies?

I cleared out the fort for the hell of it using that strategy el oh el. Don't know if I'll have to do it again later on as a mission.

Also, how do you get the diamond cases that are sitting on tops of shacks?
And has anyone used the hang glider? I quickly spun into gimble lock as soon as I tried to steer =_=

Diamond cases on top of shacks: Drive a jeep over, hop on top of it, then on the roof.
DO NOT WANT.
2008-10-28, 9:21 PM #93
Oh. That's boring.

I kept trying to blow the shack up or shoot the case down :( stupid physics.

usually there's a ladder to get onto the rooftop of a higher adjacent building. then jump down from there.

Making things explode is always an option. Fire works good, too. Driving in with a jeep and hopping onto the turret is fun. I usually snipe from a distance until I cock it up and they spot me, then I move in for a bit of rambo action.

You surely will. Several times.

Sometimes there are trees nearby to climb across, rocks, sandbags. The jeep trick works, too. Some you will need to climb up a hill/cliff and drop down onto them. I take them as little puzzles to solve.

They work alright. Decent distance but they're not really handy for anything. If you get shot at while on one you will instantly fall out of the sky.

turret gunning ****ing sucks btw. i always fare much better when i jump out of the trucks and take cover as opposed to sliding up to the gunner's position. only redeeming quality of turret gunning is that it saves ammo/wear-and-tear.

Loadout of Mac-10, AK-47 and PKM.

With camo suit for some reason...

according to my save I've completed 23% of the game.

The turrets don't do enough damage. They're supposed to be (presumably) 0.50 cal, but a burst to a guy's face and chest doesn't take him down. What the ****? A 0.50 anywhere near your torso is probably enough to incapacitate you.

Fixed. Anybody figured out how to mod things like this yet?

Also, I don't think people realize just how powerful a weapon the machete is.

Yeah. when you're up close and finish off a pistol clip or something and don't have time to reload, switching to the machete and lunging in is awesome. Another thing that's great is when they are wounded and crawl away, or are on the ground, using the machete stabs em strait thru.

In this situation, I keep mouse scrolling as a habit and bringing out the RPG instead of the machete and inadvertently blowing him and myself up.

There's a 240B machine gun(.30cal), a .50cal and a Mark 19. The 240B is the fast firing one, the .50 cal is the slower firing one, and the Mark 19 is the grenade machine gun. I found the .50cal to be excellent against vehicle and personnel because it did infact kill them very quickly. However, it can't point down as far as the .30cal, so if someone is up close you're screwed. The Mark 19 is just fun as hell.

btw, finished the game. Figure I'll post here what I posted elsewhere after finishing it.

I have two more complaints after finishing this game. First, all of the choices you make have zero impact on the game. It's retarded that they give us these choices and then they mean absolutely squat. What the hell was the point? Second, the ending is crap and very anti-climatic. To add insult to injury, they force you to watch their excruciatingly long ending credits and listen to the same two annoying songs over and over. The only way to escape it is press ctrl-alt-delete.

This game is non-linear to a fault. Non-linear plot to the extent that a ridiculous amount of detail is left out, completely arbitrary combat and enemy spawns, and absolutely no sense of purpose. Hopscotch has more depth than this game does. If someone enjoys this game beyond having a sandbox to play with fire in(which the fire effects are one of the few awesome things about this game), I seriously worry about them. And if playing with fire in a sandbox gets your jollies off for hours on end, more power to you.

If anyone is taking me the wrong way, let me simplify what my complaints are. This is a game with amazing potential that was either hurried to release and they just threw a bunch of crap action and story into the engine they perfected or the story and map designers are complete dumbasses. If users can mod an adventure out with good story and action with the tools given in this game, those mods could very well be some of the best FPS experiences out there.

Well, you need to hit the abdominal area to actually splatter intestines, so, no. :P

Anyone else find the golden weapons yet? Apparently, they don't jam or rust and are more accurate than their normal counterparts. I found the normal golden AK but stupidly tossed it away thinking it was just another crappy pick-up weapon and then went back to the shack where I found it later and discovered that it doesn't respawn :( So I don't know if I can ever get it back now.

(If you're curious this is the shack in question. There's also a diamond case in there.)

I did however find the stockless golden AK with a bit of help from the internet haha. It's around here (not my pic):

It's "rumored" that there are 5 or 8 of these or whatever... has anyone found any other ones?

Also the blinged-up "golden" Jeep (from the President's son) rocks. I've crashed it so many times and it's never broken down except for when someone shot it up, and then after a repair it was good as new again. I pretty much insist on driving it around everywhere now and refuse to use normal vehicles.

I found that Golden AK without the stock. I didn't know they were actually anything special asside from being gold, but I put it in the weapon crate in a safehouse anyway, just incase.
2008-11-01, 4:04 AM #107
is there a gold AR? 'cause that would pretty much be the bombass
2008-11-01, 8:28 PM #108
For those of you who were complaining the mounted turrets sucked ... not all vehicles were made with equal turrets :D
