Fallout 3

Just a heads up :

For everyone who wants to completely everything with their first character, the game does come to an end when you complete the main quest. You CANNOT continue playing afterwards.

You need to save :

Either after you escape from Raven Rock and meet up with Fawkes a second time, or before you assault Johnson Memorial with the Brotherhood of Steel. Beyond that point, there's no turning back.

I'm wondering, if I'm a good guy at level 20 and do bad stuff to take me to neutral and then evil, will I get the extra achievements?

Is it possible to get all the achievements on one run of the game? The karma-related ones are the only ones that put this into doubt.

So, it's not like Oblivion, to where you can continue after the main quest line? :(

I made a girl last night and I'm escaping the vault. I'm having fun :)

Noeps. There's a definite conclusion, a final intro, and thus the credits roll. You cannot continue on your character afterwards. There are pros and cons to this approach. I for one liked this conclusion, but I know its going to severely annoy others.

I liked the ending but would love to have been able to play on (in a world where the water was mostly good)

Oblivion for its faults had alot of fun to do afterwards (Like the Royal Armour they give you after the end)

I think its simply that the (successful) endings in Fallout 3 had a very heavy effect on the world and would immediatly have an impact on the lifestyle of everyone in the wasteland. Reflecting that properly (especially the various alternatives, which could be drastically different) would have been probably all too time consuming for what it was worth, as cool as it would have been.

Oblivion's main quest didn't really CHANGE the world itself so much as stop it from changing for the worst at the hands of the Daedric lord. It was easier to simply open the door for the player to run around afterwards.

I have a simply 3 gripes with this game, after playing it for nearly 40 hours :

- Companion AI sucks, they get in the way a lot
- Its rather easy to wedge your character in a corner and be stuck there, forcing you to reload (happened about 5 times)
- Graphical popups, tough significantly less abundant than Oblivion's, still annoy the heck out of me

Is there a "good" way to do the strictly business quest? All the others have good karma paths.

enslave the people, kill everyone in the camp, then let the slaves go. You complete the quest and gain more good karma than bad.

Fantastic game, have been playing for some time now. Not even near completing the main quest (haven't gone to dad's lab yet) , but the sidequests are awesome. Some firefights can be more epic than any other game I've ever played. Doing Reilley's (sp?) Rangers quest now... I'm a big Fallout fan, and Fallout 3 is everything I wanted it to be and then some. Definetly not Oblivion with guns. Easily game of the year material.

Holy ****.

I found a crashed UFO with an alien corpse some north west of Minefields (a bit north west of the big factory with 4 skyhigh chimneys). You get a aircraft signal on your radio and when you get close you start getting +1/sec rad. There is a very very powerful "Alien Blaster" and 120 ammo for it. That thing is really powerful too. :O

For people like me who are on the PC version, I found some interesting things on the SA forums.

First off, there is now a UI mod that Darn made. If you don't know who Darn is, he's the guy that made ui changes for Oblivion, and got into their hall of fame. This guy is really good at editing ui menus in bethesda games.

Also, the second thing is how to make Dogmeat essential, so you don't have to reload all the time. Found by Zuffox

Originally posted by Zuffox:
Type save Savename 1 in to console. The 1 at the end causes a notepad doc named "Savename.fos.txt" to pop up automatically. Search that file for the NPC you want to resurrect.

The line you're looking for should be the second hit for the NPC you're searching for, and should look something like this:

0006A775 588 A0200803 21 Dogmeat - Low(398) Flags(5) Moved(28) Package Data Extra(26) Damage Modifiers(2) Enc Zone Extra(8) Game Only Extra(114)

Where the first value, in this example "0006A775," is the hex ID you want. This will work for any NPC.

To make companions Essential (they fall unconscious instead of die permanently), do this:

Follow the above method, but use the first value of the first search hit of the NPC. Use that value in the following string in console:

SetEssential HexID 1

The NPC will probably need to actually be alive for this.

I just realized you could stack up VATS shots

This game sucks. I got off of work at 6 and was going to play for an hour before working out. It's now almost 11 and I still haven't eaten dinner.

Pretty nice when you have a gun that kills in one shot and multiple enemies to shoot.

Especially nice with the perk that refills your AP if you kill an enemy in VATS

Where do I get this and how?
2008-11-13, 2:25 PM #181
I second Rob's question
2008-11-13, 2:44 PM #182
It's called the Grim Reaper's Sprint, and it's a Level 20 perk.
2008-11-13, 2:48 PM #183
So is 20 the max level?
2008-11-13, 7:27 PM #184
Sadly, yes.

No idea, thats what I was going to try.

I ran into a whole town full of Deathclaws.

Wow, that just wasn't ****ing fun at all. These things whoop my ***. You can shoot them in the face with a rocket launcher and do barely any damage, totally sucks.

About the only way I found to kill them was to cripple their legs so they can't run up on you so fast, but even that's a bit of a stretch when there are like 3 of them chasing you.
2008-11-17, 2:45 PM #189
I can nearly onehit a Deathclaw with a sniper rifle critical hit to the head.

Strange. Four or five VATS bursts from the custom SMG (the one you get from the chick who helps you find the Constitution) with Small Guns at 100% usually put a Deathclaw down.

Also, You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head quest is real fun. Especially if you give Crowley all the keys, completing the quest, and then wait for him to come back from Fort Constatine in the Power Armor (he's not wearing a helmet) and shoot him in the head. Hehe. :)

By the way, maybe someone knows - where is Mister Burke? I've killed Tenpenny, but there was no sight of the guy (I'm playing a good character ATM). I really want to nail that ******* for messing up the sheriff's ****.

Mr Burke is in megaton.. at that saloon (Can't remember the name or the other guy) that is in the back of the town

4 or 5 hits with the alien blaster takes a behemoth down, deathclaws aren't really a challenge later in the game.

Not in my case. When I've just started playing, I've reported that Mister Burke wants to blow the town up. The sheriff then went to speak with Burke, and Burke shot the sheriff in the back and left. I'm level 17 now, and I've already searched Tenpenny Tower, but he's not there either.

3 VATS shots from the Chinese Assault Rifle or the Combat Shotgun to the head and they're toast.

I managed to one-hit one with Lincoln's Repeater.

Also, if you build the dart gun you can cripple both their legs with one shot and make things a lot easier on yourself.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.
2008-11-17, 4:25 PM #198
Where can I get the dart gun plans?

I have like 900000 darts I'd like to think I haven't been saving them for no reason.
2008-11-17, 4:32 PM #199
You can get the plas from the Boutique Le Chic in Tenpenny Tower, the MDPL-05 power station, or as a reward for the Head of State quest.

thats what I did, except when Burke said he knew nothing about the "lie" I shot him in the face, and nobody in the saloon cared.
