I smoke pot sometimes when the change to do so arises, when I'm hanging out with my friends.

why don't I do it regularly? I would if I could. But my roommate does not like it, regardless of if it should or not, it is illegal and he does not want to be around it. I respect that and therefore don't keep pot in the apartment when he is here and I don't smoke it while he is home.

it's a respect thing and most decent stoners (at least the ones I know) respect other peoples wishes not to smoke around them, at a party thats different, that person chooses to be there, if you don't like it leave unless the host does not allow it.

Still, if people don't want me to smoke pot near them, I leave or don't do it. and all my friends are the same and so on, if your friends know you don't like it and keep doing it near with you around or in your home/car. they are douches, plain and simple, they don't respect you and you should ditch them until they learn you some respect.

I've also gone to work at my old job high... made the day SOOO much better, even better because I was a supervisor, granted this was at a movie theater and being a supervisor is telling the minions to scoop popcorn or sweep the floor, but it makes working with 15 year old brats who mommy told to get a summer job way easier.

Do I get high at my new job? no. why? it's an office job, I work on the phones and i KNOW I can't concentrate while I'm talking to customers, I know that I have service levels to keep up and if I slack the whole team goes down and the client gets pissed. I respect my work and my employer.

Does that mean the guy beside me should be fired because he IS baked? if he's meeting service levels and there are no performance issues I don't care, but the minute he starts slacking and bringing us down, yeah. thats a problem.

But I again know my limits of what I can and cannot do when I'm high, and I respect the people around me.

either way, I know people that go through life baked almost every waking moment and function just as well as everyone else, carry on a conversation without getting side tracked, have excellent hand eye coordination and you'd swear they were sober if you didn't just blaze with them.

it varies and people that do stupid things, abuse them and abuse the people around them because of it are idiots to start with and really, if kids can buy legal pot it really would cut down on the drug abuse... where the rebelliousness of doing something illegal the thrill of it.

when you can wait a few years and buy it legally the thrill is kinda gone that most high school kids I knew got off on, they felt dangerous cause they bought some pot, sure thats not going to stop teens from getting it, but teens still drink underage and smoke underage.

it's also about education for the most part, teens who don't know things about sex get STD's and babies, kids that don't get proper education drink too much and some drive (even educated kids still can do this)

but the point is, have classes on the dangers of abusing it just like drinking, it really is the same thing and alcohol is legal... anyone that says otherwise is an idiot.

so if this is true... why is it illegal? research it.

For the most part, I believe the original plants were from Mexico (at least modern North America... it's been around for over a thousand years) and then Mexican immigrants came up they brought it with them when they worked on fields.

"Marijuana has been criminalized in the United States since the mid 1900s. It was originally banned as a way to focus anti-Mexican sentiments since the perception was that most smokers were immigrants coming to the United States from Mexico."
http://www.quazen.com/Recreation/Drugs/Looking-Beyond-the-Haze.41065

the plant's banning was basically racist to Mexican immigrants, they used it to hurt them and take away their plant, since then a certain stigma as grown around the plant. up until the 1950-60's it was believed the plant had maddening effects on people, made them murderous and jealous and violent. these fears were fueled by movies like "Reefer Madness" where an innocent boy smokes some pot and winds up killing someone.

it's only been within the last 30 years that that stigma is starting to wear off, with many countries decriminalizing it or lessening laws against it and so many scientific studies being conducted.

Eventually it will be decriminalized, it's just a matter of time, but it's people that don't know the origin's, the reasons why it's banned and just condemn it because it IS banned.

just saying, do some research and make an informed decision then base your opinions on personal experience and bias.

Thank you for that excellent post Grant.

For those who don't want to read his entire post (although I highly suggest it) I can sum it up in one word: Responsibility. When exhibited, it does not affect anyone else, just like alcohol, just like cigarettes, just like anything.

It should also be mentioned that being responsible is a lot easier high than drunk.

Well, he didn't answer the mudkip question, but...

Quote:
Q: "Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?" S. Man, Denton

A: President-elect Obama is not in favor of the legalization of marijuana.

I could have sworn he said he would support it before...

Championing for legalization of drugs in America as a politician seems like walking the line over political suicide. The "whole drugs are bad" message has been so ingrained in society that often people just accept it.

Has anyone seen the new anti-drug adverts on television? They are essentially claiming smoking a joint is equal to domestic violence.
