Worst FPS you've ever played

Has to be SiN Episodes... in places it was so frustrating and insta death filled it wasnt fun.

It had so much promise but gah... On research it had a bug in its adaptive difficulty system that meant it wouldnt stop being insanely hard...

Still remember the fooking tower and the yard.....

Quake 3

To be fair there are much much worse games out there but I didn't like Q3 one bit in any form.
Star Wars: TODOA | DXN - Deus Ex: Nihilum

Both STALKER games had the most frustrating gunplay experience when you start them. Honestly, it's like if the game just wanted you to hate it. I'm no firearm and ballistics expert but I can't shake the feeling that guns should have an effective range past 5 meters and don't jam after EVERY TEN SHOTS. I assume it was because of The Zone's unique radiation and spilled Vodka that made the guns behave such a way. Clear Sky adds another kick in the balls by having the enemy NPCs throw grenades that HOME IN ON YOU.

Luckily the games pick up later on and the mods do wonders to the gameplay.

I would say that the F.E.A.R. games had the greatest disparity between what I was lead to believe about them based on the advertising, and the quality (or lack there of) that I actually experienced.

I was also not particularly impressed by the Painkiller games.

The original Half-Life. I didn't play it until a few years after it came out, but I hated it. Never can finish it. I just get bored.

HL2.

Boring.
nope.

Jedi Outcast.

It was good after the Nar level. But. It wasn't an FPS anymore.

Chex Quest 2

The first was so awesome. 2 sucked ball sack.
2008-12-30, 2:30 PM #9
Trespasser

Or Oblivion, if that counts as a FPS
2008-12-30, 2:51 PM #10
The gunplay in Deus Ex 2 is pretty much awful, and there's not much else to recommend the game compared with other shooter/RPGs.

What. Half-Life is one of the most important FPS games ever, it was a revolution in immersive storytelling in FPS gaming and Half-Life 2 set the benchmark for innovative Physics. Unless they're the only FPS you've ever played, there's absolutely no reason for either to be the 'worst'.

It doesn't.

One of the first things I did in Clear Sky was have my crappy pistol upgraded as much as I could for accuracy/flatness...it doesn't suck nearly as bad anymore... :P

I wouldn't say that Halo is the worst FPS I've ever played, but I certainly wasn't too terribly impressed by it. I couldn't figure out what all of the hype was about- the game design was bland and repetitive.

I'd say Daikatana. Or turok 1.

I just finished playing through Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, and while parts of the game were fun, the levels with the snipers just plain sucked. Whoever though that a game where you constantly get shot at by enemies you can't even see would be fun has a few screws and bolts loose in their head.

Just kidding about Halo, I loved them.

I think the best thing about halo was the multiplayer.

Halo is an overrated piece of console garbage...same with Gears of War..UT3 sucked compared to the fantastic other games in the series..MEDAL OF HONOR AIRBORNE..worst 50 dollars ive ever spent

Then you're a rarity. Most pc owners I know thought Halo was just a generic pile of crap.
Nothing new to it, nothing exciting, but overyhyped to hell.
But, theres still worse out there.
I'd say my biggest hope-dissapointment game would be Hitman Bloodmoney. Love the hitman series, hated what they did to my precious games. But they fixed it up next installment and that's still not the worst game ever.

I'm going to go with Noah's Ark on the super nes. You ran around shooting sleeping pellets at the animals that have gone wild on your ship.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the original Turok, but I can't argue with Daikatana.

Stellar 7. The first and only polygonal shooter. You beat the first boss by not moving and holding the spacebar (to shoot).

I know this...
I'm still waiting for you to make some kind of relevant point.
This has nothing to do with what platform you played them on.
Halo came out and was considered revolutionary amongst many people who have never played a decent fps (such as those that run rampant on pc) and considered mediocre by most pc players.

HL2 dragged pretty bad. Halo is a good example of how you give a game good pacing: you use the gimmicky stuff (like vehicles) to break up the monotony of the FPS bits. Instead, HL2 used its gimmicks in series, forming a new kind of monotony punctuated by short firefights and set pieces. The entire game had excellent production quality but it's one of the most boring things I've ever played.
2008-12-30, 10:43 PM #31
Most disappointing was Deus Ex 2. Most could have been good if they made the missions properly was Operation: Flashpoint.

Also, I can see people not liking Half-Life, especially if they didn't play it when it was new. It's a lot of cool sections but I found it kind of unsatisfying in that you never really accomplish stuff - the scientist guys just order you around (I gave up at surface tension). It's kind of the same thing that irritated me about System Shock 2 and is currently annoying in Dead Space.

Halo had excellent design. By that I don't mean the levels were well-designed or the artwork was solid, I mean Halo had a great design document. They spent years remaking the game, so after Microsoft bought them out it's pretty obvious they had a sit-down and hammered out a definite plan for what they needed to do and then they stuck to it. The game is missing all of that schizophrenic feature creep from its PC-centric sloppily made contemporaries.

But I'm pretty sure publishers don't give a crap about people like you guys anymore, since none of you actually pay for what you're complaining about. It's like when Bill Gates asked a newsgroup for suggestions regarding ABASIC and he got back 10 times as many replies as people who actually bought the software.

I thought you were referring to the PC version, usually different platforms have different experiences

Halo had solid gameplay, which was the fun of it. Great multiplayer. I can't think of a better fps of its time, but thats because I haven't played that many games.

I liked how HL2 was a roller coaster ride- I've played games that are non-stop action (like F.E.A.R.) and I found it to be very tedious.... I could only take the game in small doses at a time. HL2 I thought was an excellent combination of action, puzzle solving, and exploration.

I will proudly inform you that I have receipt from SAMS Club which proves I legally purchased Halo 1 which came with my X-Box. I also legally rented Halo 2 from blockbuster, and later I played halo 3 at a friends house.

All legal.

And I feel like a jack *** for posting this... please forgive me, I'm bored out of my mind and I need something to talk about.

The multiplayer portion of any FPS made by Raven.
? :)
2008-12-31, 6:30 AM #38
I didnt really think Halo was that good. I mean maybe the story wasnt too bad for the first game but the whole flood thing was crappy.

Halo 2 was meh would like to play 3 but meh not for PC.

I liked Gears of War aside from the somewhat odd tactics and gimmicky weapons.

I also er got conned with Exodus from the Earth on steam (It was £6.99...) the only FPS what seems to nerf your controls the longer you play (Strafing and movement seems to die after an hour and becomes unresponsive)

Medal of Honour games were crap after allied assault (Ok The Japanese one was OK)

HL1 was fun at first, but then got boring.
HL2 was dumb in that from the start of the game you could look up and guess where the final level would be, and then you spent the rest of the game HEADED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. Then right at the end you'd be whisked back to where you knew you'd end up all along.
Halo 3 came with my X-Box 360 and I found it so unplayable that I never bothered getting past the first level.

Deus Ex 2 is one of the worse ones I've played, but I tend to shy away from the obviously bad games. Deus Ex 2 wasn't even that bad of a game, but it failed at being Deus Ex.
