Yes, but two guys fighting can occasionally be chalked up to idiotic machismo. A guy instigating a fight with a girl can be less easily written off.

Does the common definition of "hitting" a woman include slapping?

I see slapping as a different level than punching. Still not a good thing, but a lot more acceptable than a fist in the face.

Haha yeah, there's really no point to what I said. :P Just saying that it technically is just as illegal, but that doesn't matter since any human being coming upon the scene will react differently were it a man vs. man or man vs. woman.
