One of the reasons I love HDRemix is that all the people who's gamertags are like xXOMGspeciolSteve1991Xx are like "omgwtfbubble u hav 2 much time on ur hands lamer y u so good?"

Standard response "If you were born in 1991, you're 17 or 18. I've been playing this game for about as long as you've been alive."

I've been toying with Akuma (Gouki) in the training center. I've got most of his moves under control save for his more complicated Supers and Ultras that I've only managed a few times.

Do characters have different amounts of health or armor? Or something that changes the damage intake from character to character?

Yes, Akuma, Vega and a few others take damage like behatches. Others like Zangief soak it up all day.

If you're learning Akuma, you need to nail his Ultra/Super (Raging Demon) because you're going to be taking damage, big style and you need to hit back with it :)

Also, Fishy didn't want to play with me :gbk:

I noticed I was dying easier on him than I did on Ryu.

As for his Ultra/Super I know them :

Super : L-Punch > L-Punch > Forward > L-Kick > H-Punch

Super : L-Punch > L-Punch > Back > L-Kick > H-Punch

I just need to be able to perform them well.

Yeah, you want to be able to try and 'tick' them if possible. It's got invincible start up, but if someone manages to jump over you your head's vulnerable.

For those who don't know (not sure how much everyone here knows or cares) tick throwing is when you put someone in blockstun/hitstun and whilst you have frame advantage, you throw your opponent. It's low risk, high gain in Super Turbo, but in SFIV you can whiff (miss) your throws and be punished.

I didn't get your invite Martyn. Plus, I was too busy playing "Fight against a million Kens and Ryus online". Because apparently that's the game I bought. The game's becoming very frustrating. I'll land a huge combo of 6 attacks, then they'll hit me with one heavy punch and do as much damage.

Probably. Also, you play other people too. You'll play a round or two with Ken, then move on. I'm just tired of match after match of Ken in black gi.

Ken's popular online because lag + spam dragon punches are hard to counter. Shame really.

Martyn, I know we've got a crazy time difference but I'ma be home at 4PM EST (9PM GMT?) if you'd like to get a few games in!

Fishy, I'll be on tonight at some point

I was playing one dude last night who picked Ryu, so I decided to play Gouken so I'd at least have a decent chance. The guy then proceeded to do nothing but spam fireballs the entire fight, lol. So I wore him down quite a ways, then let him think he was going to win by taking some of his hadoken spam, then closed in and used my fully charged ultra combo to destroy him. I did the same thing to him both rounds. I imagine that guy was pissed.

I got excited when another guy I was playing picked Balrog (one of like 2 people over a couple of hours who didn't play as Ryu or Ken). So I used Chun-Li against him cause I figured it'd be an interesting fight with no Ryu clones. Then I perfected the guy on both rounds and felt bad.
2009-02-23, 12:41 PM #65
Yeah, chun-li destroys balrog.

Gouken is so freakin broken. His back toss gives you a FREE Shinshoryu (or any attack for that matter). Wtf.

Btw I find it hilarious that for the english voices the "tatsumaki senpuukyaku!" yell is just "YARRRRGH!" for Ryu and Ken.

Jep -- Wicked games. When the announcer was like "If they win this it will be the upset of the century!!", I was determined to make it. Finally got off my ultra and whittled you down.

That was a really well evened match, especially since I could avoid your ultra (It's amazingly OP). 50% of the matches came down to 10% of health or less.

Agreed, Akuma's Ultra is beyond amazingly damaging. I took out near half of your health that one time I got it off! Its kind of his saving grace, since he takes a lot of damage. Probably too much damage for a more aggressive player like me. I'm poor at defense.

I agree with you, our matches were fun and close calls on both ends. My favorite match was the one where I took you down to a smidge, then you got off a super (I think?) and took me down to the same equal smidge. We both backed out to our corners, anticipating the end of the match.

The announcer calls, "These fighters are evenly matched! Who will win?!"

Then we just had a jump kick face off. That was brilliant.

surely the best way for it to end is with a double KO?

Alas that was the only fair outcome, but I stole the victory from Fishy. .(

I was a bit worried, because I broke my monthly budget by purchasing this game, in a time where I do not have a large amount of extra cash, but it was bloody well worth it.

Gouki/Akuma's all about pressure/combos, man. He's the ultimate aggression character. You just gotta control space until you get them on the defensive and then corner them.

Akuma's a lot better in this game than in Third Strike (thank god).

Akuma player loses in this one but same idea

Then I need to learn to play him better!

I also tried mastering M. Bison last night. I spent a lot of time in the training room trying to get his moves off. I just can't do it steadily. Charge characters are terrible with the xbox 360 control, or at least I'm terrible at it. Sometimes I think it might be my control getting worn out though. Maybe I'll switch to my other, less used one tonight.

I can't do any of the charges more than about 1 in 20 times. I can do all of Ryu's moves at will now though. I'm having difficulty with some of the combos, it's hard to figure out the timing, even on the easy ones.

I get into streaks where I can do several charge moves in a row without trouble whether horizontal or vertical, but in the majority of time when I try to do it in the heat of battle I epic fail them.
