I think I figured out charges, it's pretty much the time it takes your character to perform 3 full walk animations

I can't seem to do Chun-Li's first combo (in the challenges), the Heavy Kick then kick flurry thing :(

Try putting the pad on your lap and using two fingers to double tap the buttons. Obviously this is much easier with a stick, but double tapping's quite a standard timing method.

You might even get it to work with quick thumb work (the double tapping)

EDIT:

When I say buttons, I mean button. Imagine doing the old Atari Olympics sprint where you've got two buttons to whack alternately. Just do that, but with the one button. You'll be surprised how much faster you can drum the button.

I can do the flurry easily enough, I can't do the flurry immediately after the heavy kick, there's no visual clue for timing either.

I've not done her stuff yet - if I can get the tellybox off izzy I'll have a bash and see if I can do it.

That trial is horribly bugged. I can complete almost every trial (Except for the last one, holy crap). But that one always takes me upwards of 5 minutes to complete.

It was all about momentum. I won the first match, and like, 6 more. But I started to get cocky, and wanted to win a match without jumping, as it provides way too much weakness for me. Then you won, and turned the tables. After the loss, I just couldn't pull it together. I wasn't blocking effectively, I couldn't pull off combos... feh.

Iz and I are planning to stay in tonight, so I might be able to persuade her to let me hit up a few games circa 9pm GMT. :D

It wasn't awesome round of matches.

We got to 9 wins each but Fishy won 10 wins to 9.

I was having serious issues playing last night. Also, I'm never using Bison and C. Viper against you Fishy. I just can't do it, you just tear me to shreds. :(

A good C. Viper will absolutely tear me apart. It's chun-li's "rival". I've come against 1 good c.viper player online, and it was a massacre.

Yea but I'm pretty suck-tastic with her.

On the other hand, I'm getting pretty decent with Blanka's charges, though I still can't get his super or ultra off for the life of me.

It's funny, I can't either, and it's the same as Chun-li's.

Sorry I missed ya Martyn :( I had to go to run errands after work. Impromptu crap. Tomorrow I'd be around during the day if you'd like to get your groove on! :D

Fishy : As always, good fighting! I need to learn to block and counter your combos better. My save grace with Blanka is the calculated offense. XD

That god damn seeking jump spin thing is the most obnoxious thing ever. Also I was quite drunk tonight. I don't know if that made be better or worse. Also, I can't get my down block to work like, 90% of the time, it's starting to get annoying.

Also, why didn't anyone tell me you could do the away-charges whilst crouching? It makes the whole thing a lot more useful if you're not moving backwards all the time.

So I just unlocked all but Seth, and I noticed something strange. I started playing Gouken (who I find to be rather terrible), and suddenly around round 3, with cammy, they all started to do Ultra Combos and stuff. I should note that I was still playing on Easiest, and up until that point had not seen a single ultra move done that wasn't my own. Not only did that round 3 character do it, but every single one after. And I hadn't even continued yet. I think there's something else going on there.

I gotta say, playing ranked matches just plain sucks ***. The number of people who use crappy, cheap tactics just make it unbearable.

I especially like it when they spam high damage moves that, although under normal conditions would be very easy to block/stop, are absolutely impossible to defend against with lag.

But that's speaking for just about any fighting game online.

Unfortunately nothings cheap in street fighter - if it's something someone's doing over and over again you're just going to have to figure out a way round it. The ethos is if it's easy to do, you're going to see a lot of it and if you can't get round it then tough ****. Harsh but that's how it is!

If you find a tactic that works, you abuse it till your opponent can prove they can beat it
2009-02-28, 3:24 PM #148
Personally I'm going to return to just playing with my friends. I don't care enough about ranking and battle points to spend hours of gaming to getting frustrated over cheap tactics whether or not they fly or not, whether I should be finding a way around it or not. I'm not gonna waste time getting pissed off and frustrated while I'm playing my games. XD

You forget that this is online play we're talking about here. There are moves that, when combined with lag, simply can't be stopped without some magical mind-reading or time machine. You know the type, the ones where you have like a split second to jump, but by the time you see the move begin, you already missed your window because of the lag.
2009-02-28, 3:48 PM #150
fair play jeppybuns! That's the joy of iv - it's got a new, casual player base. Just be wary of complaining about 'cheap' tactics, because the fanboys will h8 on you (but I'll still <3 you)

yeah, that is a sad problem - the ken boys who srk all the bloody time... That's a different thing. I'm talking about people who moan about being thrown, or about people just throwing fireballs when they're playing gief.
2009-02-28, 3:59 PM #152
I really can't see the point in buying this game when less than a year from now there is going to be a Street Fighter IV EX FIVE MANGA POW POW KACHOOOOOOO

Or something. Actually, you know instead of releasing the same game twice with slightly more characters and slightly different features, fighting games are definately a genre that would benefit a lot from DC.

I dont really have an issue with does throwers or fireballs. Its the others, like Matty mentioned that annoy me. Lag renders some things unbreakable

I tend to just play games that are 3 bars or more (on HDR I play on only less than 100 ping). Lag abusers are just sad, as are those that just drop when they know they've lost. both are unfortunately just a byproduct of the system :(
2009-02-28, 6:04 PM #155
I've never managed to play online, I think the Xbox wireless thingy is destroying any chance I have, I can't find anyone to play again, whenever it does find someone they always have 0 bars.

I definitely see a majority of low-bar connections in SF4. Of course I have no idea what scale they use to determine the number of bars. I've only ran into a couple noticeably laggy games so far, but I've not played too terribly much online.
2009-02-28, 7:42 PM #157
i've had nothing but no bars and "unable to play" messages... when i do connect to a game though it's not laggy...
eat right, exercise, die anyway
2009-03-01, 3:51 AM #158
I've not been able to connect to a single ranked match myself. The only way I've found is to create my own games.

Unranked matches I've been able to find via Quick Search though.

Detty I sent you a message last night but had to log, sorry for the sudden 'change of mind'. I had an impromptu visitor.

Man I dont know whats up with me this weekend. I play like **** and I'm getting so angry about losing. XD -returns to his writing to cool down-

I just don't get it. When I picked up the game for the first time, I beat the game on medium with Ryu, I could do all of his moves at will including Shoryuken... yet now I can never get his damnable dragon punch or ultra/supers when I want them.

Um... so... I turned on SF4 tonight, for a few quick matches... when it starts up, it said "No save data was found". Wtf. I think I might have shut it down when it was saying "saving" or something, accidently.. but losing all my data, that sucks. (On the Plus side, my ranked win % is now 88%)
