"Ugh...a penis. Why is it so big? And blue? It's not even erect. What the hell. Mine doesn't look like that when it's flaccid. Damn CGI. Damn...my wife/girlfriend is going to be measuring mine in her head for sure tonight when we get home. Why is she giggling? I hate this movie. I hate my penis. Aaaaaaaaaagh"
Maybe that would explain the blue wang uproar.

Honestly, it was barely on there at all. No more than the comic.

I've seen much worse. Specifically when I worked at the YMCA and had to use the Men's locker room. So many necked old people. Ugh.

Anyone try the Watchmen PC game - Watchmen: The End is Nigh? It's avaliable on steam. I am downloading the demo now. Just curious if any of you fanboys purchased it yet.

Everyone that's played it has said it's horrible.

I particularly liked that famous Apple advert appearing on one of the TVs.

What. It's one of the most famous adverts ever. Even if you don't like Apple, you have to appreciate this clever Orwellian advert. It's a shame apple ads now have degenerated into some fatuous false dichotomy against PCs.

This thread can't be good with its 4 pages.

But anyhow, good things:
1) No stupid pirate side adventure thing
2) Koyaanisqatsi! (Actually it was quite creepy to recognize it so double the fun!)
3) That Million Dollar Bill Man getting his cape stuck in a door (thus getting shot) was actually shown on-screen! I pretty much expected that to happen
4) No stupid pirate side adventure thing
5) Dr. Manhattan was quite eerie and using Ride of the Valkyries in the Vietnam scene was awesome (duh). Even though I really wanted to see the "eyeballs and some inside linethings" showing up all of a sudden instead of seeing just blue random lines all of a sudden.
6) Something I've forgotten
7) It actually makes sense to drop all the annoying pirate side comic things since that would have broken the flow of mainstreamness. And for once, it was a good thing.

Of course there were minuses (the structuring could have been better, the ending wasn't as dramatic and Ozymandias lacked punch in general, there was no witty Rorschach note with the rapists tied to the water post, there wasn't that scene where Dr. Manhattan teleported the huge masses of people elsewhere, etc. etc.) but I'll still rather watch the film instead of reading the frigging comics again. Especially because of the pirat-

I find it hilarious that there seems to be a lot more anger at the penis in a film thats an 18 [or whatever the equivalent is] than there was at the penis in the Simpsons film.

Go watch it by yourself.

Oh and the game wasn't that great; it's a pretty average beat em up. The only thing that's really nice about it is that the actors from the movie reprise their roles for the game.

If I ever became a famous film director and I had the opportunity to make a comic book movie, I'd decline.

Why? I wouldn't want to force one of my favorite heroes into a film-budget beat em up console game.

Meh, sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I haven't been on in quite a while, and wanted to voice my opinion.

I really enjoyed the comic and the movie.
The movie seemed like a very abbreviated version of the comic, and sometimes the music took away from the scenes. (ride of the Valkyries) that scene would have been a lot cooler if they used different music. Made it seem silly.

Other than that, it was amazing. I hate the stupid complaints people have about it like "why does roarshach talk like batman" (I mean when you look at the word bubbles in the comic, what did you expect he would sound like!? I thought his voice was PERFECT)
And "needed less Dr. Manhattan penis" (as if it was a character of it's own, shown in close up shots. It was never focused on, just showed up when there was a wide enough shot used for you to see it. Most of the time they used close ups on him, or shots so far away you can't see it. This is the biggest complaint about this movie, and even people who refuse to watch it cause it shows a penis. I think that's really stupid. It's not made to be sexual, and appears as in many biology books and classical art. People need to grow up and stop acting like it's the first time they've seen one. Almost every review I read about watchmen talks about it and how aweful it is. One reviewer said he heard all the fuss about it, so he actually timed the scenes where you can see it, and it added up to about 1 minute and 30 seconds of footage. And with a 2:30 hour movie, that's not a huge deal.)

I still work at a movie theater, so I was able to get the standee and take it home. Not sure if anyone remembers what it looked like, but there were two totums in the shape of a prism. Each side had a different character. The characters were all of decent size, maybe 7' tall. Anyway, I cut the totums on the corners and made 6 seven-foot high cardboard one sheets of the characters and wallpapered my bedroom. It looks very cool. I'll post a picture of it in a few hours when I get off of work. (love my iPhone)

Oh, and as for gold's physical sickness due to nudity, it's not really too strange. It all comes down to mental conditioning, probably by parents (religious or other).. Much like in "clockwork orange".. I actually feel kinda bad for him. Can you imagine the mess if he ever attempted to look at porn? Parents 1, gold 0

I have no problem watching porn, but watching a male dick in room full of other people that isn't an educational video, feels akward. But whatever, it doesn't bug me anymore.

I've just grown up being a person who keeps my nudity to my self unless it some one of great trust. This trust can be achieved through getting to know me for a while, or just saying the right things at the right time. :P lol joke
Nothing to see here, move along.

Ok, I'm glad you could get over it. And I am also glad that you seem much more light heatered about it now, because seriously, it's not that big of a deal. Also, I'm happy you didn't take any offense to my last post, because it was not meant to be a personal attack or an insult of any kind.

But you can see where it is a little strange that you have no problem watching porn where you see erect penises doing what they do best and have no "comfort problems", but limp ones shown in a VERY nonsexual depiction cause physical illness...

And I completely agree with the post someone made earlier. In the simpsons movie it showed Bart's penis, and no one cared.

The penis in watchmen was completely animated as well. It wasn't even REAL nudity.

Actually, upon further review, it appears in the comic exactly once. All the other times when it might, it is tastefully obscured.

And, yeah, the movie was better than the comic. Framing Dr Manhatten > Giant Space Squid.
2009-04-04, 11:51 AM #149
No, it shows up more than once. From memory alone I know it shows up at least twice.

Once when he goes to gila flats test base to get the photo (I remember cause in an interview with the comic book artist he said he purposly put the first appearence there and not the sex scene with laurie to make it obvious they weren't including it for sexual reasons - maybe the movie should have followed suit)

Then it shows it again in the novel when he first appears in the cafeteria, like in the movie.

I could be mistanken, but I think when he and bubastis get killed in the novel, it's from a wide shot and you can see it too... Not positive though.

Bottom line is, of course it will be seen more in the movie, cause he moves.. Where as in the comic, they were still pannels. Even still, the movie didn't show it more by much. And I don't care what anyone says, if they used the "Austin powers" trick in watchmen... It would have ruined the whole movie. Cause that's what would have needed to of been done to avoid it in the same manner that the comic did in the pannels you are referring to.

Truth. I can confirm that if they'd done this, I would have laughed my *** off every time Dr. Manhattan was onscreen.

It was a take on Apocalypse Now. They actually did use blasting music to scare the VC during the Vietnam War, so it'd make sense to have the music blasting while a blue giant was walking along the battlefield exploding men at the point of a finger.

yea, so would I. It would have been impossible to take the overall tone of the movie seriously. And watchmen is definitely a movie that needs to be taken seriously.

Yea, I know why it was used. Also it's a throw back to under the hood when the guy with the fake boobs runs out... So I appreciated it.. But I mean as far as the scene was concerned, it would have been more epic, and you might have felt more disgust at the commedian for torching humans and laughing if there was actual scoring over that scene.

True, but I think the way he was played in the movie, they were making it so he did things that appalled you, but you also couldn't entirely hate the guy. So doing small things like changing the music, like you said, makes you feel less disgusted with his actions.
