Mine didn't <_<

I have it on a USB drive now...gonna replace my beta installation whenever I get around to it.

On another note, my 4650 is in...and oddly enough, my computer works fine now! I guess the 4870 is toast. I hope VisionTek doesn't suck with RMAs. .(

Keep us informed.
2009-05-02, 11:50 AM #44
So Win7 updated my video card drivers today,
Automaticly,
Without a restart.
This OS is godlike.
2009-05-02, 11:53 AM #45
Were they the correct ones?
"The world will look up and shout 'Save us!'... And I'll whisper 'No.' "
2009-05-02, 11:59 AM #46
Yes, straight from Nvidia.
2009-05-02, 12:01 PM #47
Now I'm pumped for my copy to be done downloading.

Anyone know if the RC will be upgradable to the official release? I'd consider switching my main system over if I don't have to format/reinstall again in a year..
woot!
2009-05-02, 4:43 PM #49
Since the Beta can upgrade to RC1 (With a hack), probably.
2009-05-02, 5:04 PM #50
Is there any compelling reason to go with 64bit over 32bit, excepting the additional RAM capability?
woot!
2009-05-02, 5:08 PM #51
I asked this question here long ago, the answer is no.
2009-05-02, 5:53 PM #52
You'll be helping us finally move forward since the #1 reason why 64-bit still isn't supported as much as it should be is because 32-bit is "working just fine" for most people >_< Think of it as future-proofing...not just for yourself, but for everyone else too.

That being said, I don't think it'll matter that much for an RC haha.

Yeah, but it's really not recommended. MS said that there are numerous bugs and instabilities that arise from "upgrading" from different pre-release builds, and that they aren't going to bother fixing them because they're irrelevant to "real-world" (read Vista->W7 retail) upgrade paths.

Unless this RC turns out to become the RTM and all MS requires is a retail key to activate it or something.

If all my stuff works with 64bit, then great...but if it doesn't, well, that sucks. :P
woot!
2009-05-02, 8:39 PM #54
If you have 4GB of RAM or more, or plan to in the near future, install 64-bit. There's no reason not to, really, unless you're running some seriously old crappy stuff, in which case, stop installing new OSes and upgrade your stuff.
2009-05-02, 8:47 PM #55
I have 4Gb- had 8 for a short while with 64bit 7 beta, but then built another system with half of it.

My printer (Konica Minolta PagePro 1350W laser) doesn't have 64bit Vista drivers. .(

I'm pretty sure Vista can do that too.

2009-05-02, 11:31 PM #57
I've ran it for 3 years, no it can't.
2009-05-04, 9:46 PM #58
RC is out for the public, if you downloaded via torrent you can just get your key and activate :)

MS wants you to either format or upgrade from vista.
Since it's a free OS, I say do what they want.
2009-05-04, 10:11 PM #61
So for a netbook should I download the 32 or 64-bit version?

I guess the n280 doesnt do 64-bit stuff. So nevermind.

edit2: and refreshed for the answer after looking it up. >_> Thanks though

I know, I was the one who originally posted a thread on that.

And the fact that it's free has no bearing on whether or not I should do what they request:huh:

If someone gives me something for free, and asks that I please us it in a certain way because it would help them, wouldn't it be nice to do?
2009-05-05, 4:19 PM #65
The reason to use it that way would be because it would help them, not because it's free. If the reason is a good reason, I'd be doing it whether it's free or not.

The RC accepts beta keys too (as did every build in between).

My download speed from Microsoft was around 400 kb/s. Way above average for me.

Making the bootable usb stick now, should be all set to install tomorrow when the netbook arrives.

Bootable.. USB stick?
That's pretty neat, but I suppose the amount of space would create an overhead.
2009-05-05, 10:00 PM #69
its pretty necessary, since netbooks dont have a dvd drive.

Huh

It'll be faster than installing from a CD, if that's what you're talking about

I'll be installing it on an extra laptop at work. Probably on something small like a D430. I hope it's a slow day so I have ample time to play with it.

Its a great OS no problems so far. Games that lagged a bit in xp dont anymore, probably because I can finally use my 6 gigs of ram.

Although I had to manually install the correct video drivers from nvidia. Windows didnt grab the right ones for some reason.

I'd like to install it on my laptop, but I don't have restore CDs..and it won't burn the restore DVDs like it's supposed to.

I really don't feel like burning 17 CDs, either. WTF do we need a 17 CD RESTORE PACKAGE for?

It's more then 15 gigs big if i recall correctly.

Posting from EEE PC 1000HE running windows 7 rc. Booted XP, plugged the usbstick in, opened setup, and ran it all within XP, no USB booting required. Dualbooting xp/7 now, but 7 actually seems to run faster. Its certainly much nicer to use. I like it better than vista also I think. Time will tell.
