They aren't really "dead." It's just a ploy. At this coming E3, they will show DNF in all its glory.... right? Right?

They should just release it as is.
2009-05-06, 7:21 PM #7
Which one? Im sure they have like 20 different DNFs.
2009-05-06, 7:21 PM #8
I doubt there's anything to really show :P

The last time I cared, was reading a article in PC Gamer and I don't remember what the news was, but I remember the picture associated with the news had a screen shot of a hick farmer with a pick ax.
I think it was about ditching the engine and switching to something better.

This is sad if it's completely true. There's still no official statement from 3DR, but if they're actually closing up shop it's not just DNF, but a game developer that has made some of the most memorable games in recent history. :-/

the last thing 3DR developed was Shadow Warrior everything released with their name on it since 1997 was developed by someone else

Max Payne 1 & 2 were developed by Remedy
Prey was developed by Human Head Studios

I didn't mean it as a virtue of continuing development. Just that for nostalgia's sake it's sad to see 3DR go.

I'm not surprised. The sheer fact that they took over a decade to create a game about a shallow, perverted, one-liner delivering character was not promising. As a matter of fact, I'd say it was down right ridiculous.

No loss.

What! The Duke was the KING, baby. He was ****ing awesome. But yeah, DNF was a bit of a joke. I've been eagerly anticipating this game since I was ****ing 10 years old, man. I'm 22 now. :(

Well its all up to taste I guess, but really to me he was little more than what I posted above. The game WAS fun. Hell, I enjoyed the sidescrollers too. But as a hero, Duke is pretty flat. Admitedly, back when Duke Nukem 3d was released, it was contending with nameless, voiceless, and all but storyless heroes from Doom, Wolfenstein, Hexen, Witchhaven, etc.

These days a lot of game protagonists have done one-liner delivering badass better than Duke. Plus Serious Sam pretty much picked up the Mindless Badass title since. :P

HA HA.

Take-two got scammed. Their own dumb fault though as they should have pulled funding and/or demanded results years ago. Long over due.

Not surprising. Then again, the age of light-hearted awesome FPS games ended years ago and now we only have stuff taking itself too seriously like C.R.A.P 2: Origins of Project Crap.

I still dont believe it's really dead. I bet some developer/publisher will buy the rights and start from scratch again.

That's what you get for being cocky and thinking you can tease your customers with ignorant lines like "It'll be released When It's Done". I love DUke and would still buy Duke Nukem Forever, but this slap in the face to 3D Realms is exactly what they asked for and excatly what they deserved, BIG LOL at them for treating their customers this way. Huge LOL at George Broussard. That's what you guys get for being *******s. Karma's a *****, isn't it?

Blizzard says "It'll be released when it's done" all the time.

Yeah... that's the entire appeal of the character. You're supposed to appreciate the cheesey, over-the-top cliche character that's a big salute to days of old.
Like Die Hard 4, that was cheesey over-the-top awesome. DNF could've been the same... except of course it would never be, but oh well :suicide:

Agreed, but the whole point is that it shouldn't have taken over a decade to come up with something that has no need to have a deep, thought out storyline. Nor did such a game or setting require such technical depth in terms of engines, graphics and gameplay that would warrant over a decade of development.

It never was and never will be because those in charge were mediocre game designers.
