There are a lot of expenses other games don't have. While I don't doubt that they are raking in tons of profit doing this, support for an mmo (free upgrades, free new content, etc.) could not be upheld on base game profits. Now, with that said, with 11 million users Blizzard could probably afford to bump down the monthly cost significantly and still make a more-than-meaty profit.
Mind you, there are some games out there like Guild Wars, Battlefield, TF2, that offer free updates, fixes, new content and dedicated server for free. How they manage to do it and still rake in enough profit, it beats me.
For my part, I don't mind paying 15$ a month if the game entertains me. Usually I'll be entertained by an MMO for 2-3 months and then quit. Mind you, I probably wont be playing another mmo for several years to come, since any new ones will not work on my older PC, and I have plans to buy a new computer any time soon. I did enjoy playing MMO's when I was in a tougher financial situation because they are a cheap, rather entertaining (for me) time sink that kept me from being utterly bored and wishing I had money to do stuff.
