What's most astounding is the fact that gameplay will most likely consist of you clicking on the enemy once, just like every other MMO. What a pointless video.

Meh, Blizzard makes the same kind of epic videos for WoW expansions, and I love them. Though I would never play WoW.

Actually the saber combat has been stated to be choreographed . you can have anything with out a wii style controlled that DOESNT involve clicking...

Have you played KotOR? It's not like that at all, and BioWare is following the same basic formula for this game.

Better then all three prequels, I really wish these guys would make a feature film.

Okay, you click on the enemy once to target (Or was there an autotarget?) then click an attack. Big difference.

You didn't answer the question, Have you played KotoR?
2009-06-06, 3:13 PM #89
I have. I've never seen an MMO that wasn't a click followed by an auto attack.
KotOR was the same thing, only you could use feats and it looked good. Then again, WoW uses abilities and spells too.

Edit: Wait. Why does it matter? Even if gameplay is like KotOR, that still means that it's nothing like the video.

It's a promotional video. From the get go the CG should make it GLARINGLY OBVIOUS that it's meant to just promote the game and not demonstrate its game play.

Also, clicking is how RPGs do gameplay. The point of an RPG is to express your character's skill through items, levels, abilities and so forth. It's not like a shooter where the player needs to have solid combat skills to win. That's how they're meant to be.

So Mass Effect was all a dream?

Speaking of mmo's... Project Entropia (a great game) has a hybrid combat system, where you have to aim like you do in an fps, and the damage is calculated via a traditional RPG formula.

This is a great combat system, much more entertaining than point and click and wait (while spamming this or that potion/item/skilll etc etc).
Nothing to see here, move along.

Wait, what's the argument here? That because shooter-RPG hybrids exist, the core gameplay of the RPG itself has changed?

I thought the argument was that RPG's were boring because they were just point and click games.

But that's not true either, because Baldurs Gate 2, Fallout 1-2 and Planescape: Torment were very exciting games

But all of those games also had legit stories that you were part of. I love baldur's gate, but if all it was was the combat and other people looking for phat loot it would get boring pretty fast.

Of course there are hybrid games, my point was that the idea behind a traditional RPG is to place emphasis on the character instead of the player.

What makes you think this game won't have legit stories?

Doesn't WoW have content continually added to it? I imagine they'd have to do the same to compete on any level.

I say we just wait and see and not speculate. There has to eventually be a better MMO than WoW and others, and this might be it.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I won't be playing it, but I have to chip in that I thought that CGI was pretty snazzy.

For what it matters, Mass Effect below Hardcore difficulty is effing easy and there's barely a need to use biotics/tech abilities. Thankfully, that changes on Hardcore and Insanity difficulty.

<3 Mass Effect.
