Dr. Pepper

I highly recommend Jarritos; Mandarin and Toronja are the best.

I used to like Dr Pepper, but these days I've found I don't like drinking soda as much. If I do, it's usually root beer or ginger ale.

Most people say Dr. Pepper tastes like medicine and from what I've heard, it used to be used as one?
either way, it is yummy with rum. screw a coke and rum. dr pepper and rum!
2009-09-29, 6:20 PM #47
Coca-Cola was also marketed as medicine. Then at some point I think the guy realized he didn't need to lie to people to sell it.

I thought it was after patent medicines were banned (and coke was taken out / got expensive) coca cola changed to a "soft drink" ... The History Channel tells me that. Not sure it had to do with not having to lie to people. Even though that is techincally what they were doing ... but yea...
Coke is lame. at least for alcoholics like me.

I can't stand it. Pepsi is the best, Coke is a good alternative. Coke Zero is pretty good though.

I like Dr. Pepper, but my favorite soda is Pepsi Throwback with real cane sugar. I like Mountain Dew Throwback and Jones Soda too, the sugar tastes better than corn syrup.

I used to love Dr. Pepper, but at some point I just got tired of the taste. Nowadays I find it much too sweet.

Corn Syrup is pretty miserable stuff. I guess it's just cheaper?

Yeah, genki's right. Vernor's Ginger Ale is pretty good.

Also, Henry Weinhart's Creme sodas are pretty good. Orange is my favorite. Drop some vanilla ice cream in it; yum.

Jones sodas are OK, I'm not a huge fan.

As far as "standard" sodas go, I prefer Coca Cola (Coke Zero is pretty good for the diet thing), Dr. Pepper, and Sprite.

It's not bad for you at all (that's a myth perpetuated by the cane sugar industry, no, really), it just doesn't taste as good and is cheaper.

Err, some of the bigger cane sugar companies like Tate and Lyle have actually defended HFCS.
nope.
2009-09-30, 9:51 AM #58
Probably because they also make it

cane sugar is better for almost anything, but my family has a divine fudge recipe that just has to have corn syrup or it just doesnt taste right.

You can get regular corn syrups too, Ford. :P
nope.

Could you elaborate on this, or maybe direct me to somewhere realiable? I'm genuinely interested. I remember Jon`C saying HFCS is very bad for your health. Of course most foods won't hurt when used in moderation...
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

That's because corn syrup contains glucose, which prevents the sucrose in the supersaturated sugar syrup used to make the fudge from crystallizing. It's not for the flavor, per se, it's to keep the fudge from having that grainy texture caused by little crystals

Sure, when I get home. I don't remember Jon`C saying anything bad about HFCS. In fact I think he agrees with me. I remember him stating that it makes everything taste like marshmallows.

You're probably thinking of his tirade on trans fats, where he is most definitely correct that they are very bad for you.

Having been to the northern parts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan, I can pretty much tell you that it's everywhere, and still terrible.

I must say...
I LOVE DR PEPPER! You could almost use it as bait to make me fall into a bear trap.
Nothing to see here, move along.

HFCS isn't any worse for you than anything else. What's bad for you is how much of it is in everything.

It's definitely NOT everywhere, I myself have been to numerous northern areas where it's unavailable. Areas of Idaho didnt have it, I had problems getting it in Ohio, Michigan, and the areas around there. One of my friend's couldn't get it in Boston. However, that was about 4-10 years ago for me. Not sure when he was in Boston.

I've never not been able to find it in Boston. I love Dr. Pepper and have never had trouble finding it in or around Boston, or New York, or anywhere else in New England. I'd think Mr. Pibb is more of a regional version of Dr. Pepper.

Oh yeah I was just talking about the taste. For me at least, HFCS gives me a bad aftertaste (it does in all sodas) after I drink it. Cane Sugar just doesn't have that effect on me.
