As someone who is quite well versed in American food because I love to eat and try new restaurants all around the country, and now as someone who has also had a lot of UK food, I would only give the SLIGHT nod to America. I don't really get what all the fuss is. I can still find all the same greasy food I can find in America, with the addition of lots of kebab places! Most of the "worse" food you will find are the UK versions of places like Dominoes, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, etc. But over here ythey aren't nearly as popular because much better places usually end up having better deals than the UK "fast food" equivalents. I can get a good burger, beer, fries for 3 pounds on certain nights at pubs, which is less than what I'd pay at McDonalds. Plus I love fried fish, and that is quite plentiful around here :). I'm incredibly picky about my food, and everyone warned me coming over here "OH MAN GET READY FOR THE AWFUL FOOD", but I have gotten by just fine :/
The only thing that America actually knows how to do best for sure is cooking meat, which is unfortunate, because I love eating beef. Now, of course the exception proves the rule here, as I've found multiple places here that will still cook my burger to rare or medium rare, but if you go to a pub, generally I am getting incredibly incredibly dry burgers or steaks.
However, UK has US beat with the soda's. Mirthy, I don't know what the hell you are talking about with the Dr. Pepper of the UK. It definitely tastes better to me, and that comes from a Dr. Pepper fiend (it was my high "drink of choice") it actually tastes a lot like the Dublin Dr. Pepper which uses cane sugar, mostly because it uses real sugar here!
