I hope you have short legs, Emon, I was interested in buying an RX8 until I sat in one. The gear box column is insanely wide, I literally had nowhere to put my left leg.

This is about the only car that can pull off purple. As far as non-daily drivers go, I want '68 Camaro, a '68 Firebird, and a '70 Challenger. I also wouldn't mind a GTO ('66-'67).

Not sure, I was thinking about another 3rd gen, either TA or camaro, hard roof and drop in an LS1.

But I've been having that much fun on my bike recently, that I've been thinking;

Absolutely not. I have never seen such a mediocre vehicle so idolized by so many teenage morons its astounding. There are much MUCH better cars out there with all the same performance specs as the GT-R. Its just because of movies like the fast and furious and needs for speed franchises that have elevated this car to a ridiculous height within the minds of foldgers can morons.

"OMFG SKYLINZZ TEH BEST EVARRRR11!11!11"

Japan has exported so many better vehicles then the skyline. The toyota supra for example. Properly tuned, it will blow the doors off the skyline. Dollar for Dollar, you'll have a monster for a supra before you even finish paying off the import fees at the DMV for your riceline. Most overrated car I have ever seen. More so then any mustang, camaro, or civic by far.

Damn
I had a long post about how I helped work on a restoration of an old Camaro. But as so often happens as typing I touch the touch pad by accident and completely screw everything up I am doing.

But yea, I want an old Camaro was the moral of the story.

While we're talking classics, I'm very partial to these. Few things in the world have more downright cool.

Mediocre? Theres a reason its popular. Mostly because the Nissan Skyline GTR was the performance edition of the highly popular Skyline.

Uh yes? The current gen GTR can hold its own against Ferraris and Porsches. No, it's not just because of the movies. The first Skyline GT-R came along in 1969 and continued to be produced until 2002. Fast and the Furious came out in 2001. Maybe the movie KILLED THE PRODUCTION OF THE CAR :O:O:O

So the supra is only a better car if its tuned? A properly tuned Skyline could beat a Supra. A GTR could beat a Supra. The Lexus LF-A could beat a Skyline. I don't see your point.

I still dont see how its over rated. Also, why include a civic in a muscle car lineup?

1.- I was referring to the older gen GT-R that was in the picture (not sold on america), not the new GT-R. That is a proper sports car.

2.- The civic is in with the mustang and camaro because those are literally the most mentioned cars when it comes to aftermarket modification.

3.- The newer GTR and the Lexus have nothing to do with the car I was talking about.

4.- If you don't see how its overrated, look it up on any forum, blog, or your tube video comments and read the ludicrous posts from its millions and millions of fanboys who play with it in NFSU.

5.- The video is cool and all, but I could post a video of a dragster schoolbus doing a wheelie all the way down the 1/4 mi and it will look good on video.

Its no better or worse then a vette, porche, ferrari, lambo, lotus, aston, jag, whathaveyou. Its just a mediocre performance car that has been elevated to a god like status because of the 2000's ricer hype. I am more apt to say "woah holy **** a ferrari maranello!" then "woah holy **** a nissan skyline!" It is seriously nothing special. Aesthetically, it looks like trash.

A car deserving of godlike status? The Mclaren F1.

See the difference? I'm not going to bicker with you over it, I just really believe the Skyline is as overrated as they come. Its just an opinion I hold and theres plenty of good reasons for me to have such.

You think Lotus and Aston Martin are "mediocre?"

What?? They aren't even comparable at all. Why are you bringing the F1 into this?? Of course no one is comparing the GT-R to it! They aren't even in the same price range by two orders of magnitude!
Bassoon, n. A brazen instrument into which a fool blows out his brains.
2009-11-10, 9:20 PM #73
No no, dude. I'm not saying they're mediocre at all, I'm just saying that if your going to look at it in any way, its just another sports car made by another manufacturer. Its not gods gift to the automotive world.

You mistook my Mclaren reference as a direct comparasion. Your being too literal. I mean kids idolize the GTR like a normal person with half a brain would idolize the F1. Lots of kids carry the same reverence over their beloved skyline as a sports car enthusiast would over the Mclaren. I'm not actually comparing the cars themselves, just the amount of respect each deserves.

Thats all.

Ok instead of quoting everything:

The old GTR was a proper sports car too. Its the performance edition Skyline. :hurr:

My point with bringing up the LF-A (a Toyota) is that there are better cars than a Skyline. But what the hell about tuning? Any car can be tuned to awesome. Anyway, the point to the video was to show you that the Skyline GTR has been around much longer than your ignorant mind will allow you to believe.

Fine I'll agree its ugly (and so is the new one) but it's not the ****ing movie that elevated its popularity. Did you not read the part of how its been around since the 60s?

Anyway, you're right. There is no point in bickering, especially when you say something as dumb as this:

"Its no better or worse then a vette, porche, ferrari, lambo, lotus, aston, jag, whathaveyou. Its just a mediocre performance car ..."
[01:52] <~Nikumubeki> Because it's MBEGGAR BEGS LIKE A BEGONI.
2009-11-10, 9:43 PM #75
-You keep calling me "dumb" yet all my points were perfectly valid, and the last statement you quoted was clearly explained in my response to emon soo.. wtf dude?

-They make "performance edition" ford escorts.. big whoop.

-And again, I could care less about them being around since the 60's, I'm talking about the car pictured that is every rice boys wet dream.

-Also, if it was never in F+F, and never in gran turismo or the need for speed franchise, I guarantee you about 80% less kids would know about/idolize it.

PS. Just because I dislike a car and say it is overrated, which it clearly is, that now makes me "ignorant"? Oh yes, that makes so much sense. Just agree to disagree and move on, don't try to skirt the issue by calling me ignorant to get your point across better. I'm not trying to start anything with you here, Jesus.

Have any of you guys ever owned or test driven each of the cars you are relentlessly arguing about? We all know how misleading spec sheets are, so surely you aren't basing your arguments off those. That leaves looks/design as pretty much the only thing left to argue about, and that's about as intelligent as claiming orange is better than green.

Just sayin'......

Who turned this thread into a little manners convention?

Oni, I'm sorry I like a car you view as overrated and idolized. If you'd prefer, I'll edit my post to say I'd rather have a 911..
2009-11-10, 9:57 PM #79
No, i was just hoping you could make more sense than 'lol its a ricer omg.' And sorry about derailing, but it sounded like he was saying the GTR was overrated cause other cars are better than it.

Anyway. For a sensible next car? I'd really like a VW Scirocco, but those arent coming stateside :( The Ford Fiesta is pretty cool too. I suppose it depends on where I'm living when I need a car next. Ideally I'd like an Audi S5 when I can afford it though :ninja:
