Suicide is absolutely stupid. Especially over something as trivial as this. Hell she could have been homeschooled for the remainder of her senior year til she went to a college far from home where NO ONE would know about what happened. That is why I do not feel bad. When you graduate you hardly see anyone from school anymore, maybe in public every now and then, but certainly not every day unless you live somewhere desolate. Chances are you go to college far away, and eventually settle down outside of your hometown. People do it all the time. She had less then a year to deal with things and move on with her life, which probably could have been productive if she avoided repeat actions. But no, lets just hang ourself, plague mom and dad and any siblings for the rest of their lives, and end any kind of future in question because "oh no everyone saw me naked!".

There are so many simple solutions to this problem. She overreacted, much like you are now. If Vanessa Hudgens (who was the staple girl for Disney as well as being considered a role model for young teens girls everywhere) of all people can survive it, I'm sure this girl could have too. At least she didn't have the entire country/media networks to deal with.


Put things in perspective instead of soaking up all the sympathy the media is putting out there. Of all the things to commit suicide over, a naked picture, really? What about the war vet with no legs, what about the 12 year old in and out of cancer treatment since he was 3, what about the dad whose entire family died in a car accident, what about the girl who was raped by a family member for 15 years? When you're in the hole, you feel like there is no way out, you feel like you are the most worthless person in the world, and that no matter what happens, no matter where you go, everyone will see that and hate you for it.
It's depression, not stupidity, and if you can't see the difference then you, are an extremely stupid person. I say that without malice, without hate, without any kind of anger, it's just a simple, obvious, truth.
I can only hope that if any of your friends and loved ones feel depressed they would know better then to talk to you.

Depression is the worst word to describe "depression".

When someone is depressed, they are blue, sad, morose, glum, down.

When someone is suffering from depression (which is entirely different) they are all the things Deadman described above.

Being depressed and suffering depression are NOT synonyms.

Homeschooling is a surefire way to **** up your kid for life, segregate them from the world and make it very difficult to interact with real people or to educate yourself beyond 'what mommy told you'. I'm pretty sure I'll get a dozen or so people responding "but I was homeschooled and I'm cool!", to which I point you to the fact that you're posting on a Star Wars forum in a thread about suicide. You do realize there are other avenues of social interaction for kids besides school, right? Just because someone is homeschooled does not mean they have to be completely sheltered. I know many people who've been homeschooled and they not only came out good, some of them are doing very well for themselves both financially and socially.
