Mass Effect 2

So, it's almost here. I know there are some fans of the franchise here, as well as avid bioware fans. Who's ready for it?

I did something I VERY rarely do, and preordered a copy from amazon. I'm actually pretty excited to see how the next chapter of the story unfolds.

Mainly to see what the plan is for the rest of the 'living' ships out in space. I forget what they are called.

Mine should be here on release day from Amazon.

From what I remember the plot involves working with the Cerberus Corporation, the one that was doing biological tests and Rakni breeding. I haven't heard anything about revisiting the Reapers.

Hope you got a save from the first game. Apparently you can play as that character and really continue his/her story.
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

2010-01-06, 9:02 AM #14
When IS it coming out for PC, really?
2010-01-06, 9:05 AM #15
"The game is the sequel to Mass Effect, and will be released on Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 in North America on January 26, 2010, and in Europe on January 29, 2010."

Says Wikipedia.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.
2010-01-06, 9:05 AM #16
January 26th, the same day.
2010-01-06, 9:06 AM #17
I never started the first one. I probably should. Should I get it for PC or 360?
"Honey, you got real ugly."

I got it for PC, and I think it works better there. Since there are quite a few FPS elements in it. It's like Gears of War. Very playable on the 360, but easier aiming and such on the PC.

I'm definately picking this baby up come release.

I love Bioware games. The brilliant thing Bioware has done is they have created like 9 interesting characters, and have simply reused the exact same characters with different names for every game they've ever made.

Play Dragon Age or Mass Effect and just replace certain character names with "bastilla", "carth", "hk-47" etc...

Oh I can't wait.

I went to game stop yesterday, got 1600 points, Orange Box (even though I have it on PC) and pre-ordered Mass Effect 2

Yep. They sort of work on a stereotype basis. "The funny guy" "The warrior" "The lover" "The badass lover" "The cute one" etc.

However, I am starting to think the formula is showing its age. The whole "become part of an elite caste and fulfill your quest" is becoming more and more obvious. KotOR, Mass Effect and Dragon Age all follow very similar plot devices.

Good thing the only Bioware game I've fully completed is Mass Effect. I need to get back into KotOR...

I was in Best Buy the other day (I didn't want to!) and I saw the preorder box for Mass Effect 2. I came.

Yeah.. Orange box on consoles is almost completely worthless. The updates, if they ever transfer over, come so late you'll hardly care.

I dunno, wanted to burn money. The Xbox plays the games better than my PC, and I don't mind FPS on consoles. I'm pretty decent with the sticks.

I bought orange box on xbox 360 because I wanted to play HL2 and didn't have internet at the time, so I couldn't install it. I didn't even get to Nova Prospekt.... it just wasn't the same.

I guess it's okay if you never plan on playing TF2. But TF2 on 360/PS3 is so nerfed it's practically a scam (although Valve has said repeatedly that's Microsoft's fault on the 360).

Wish I was as good as I used to be with Joysticks. I remember back in the day when getting headshots on Turok 2 was a breeze... now it's like I'm trying to play with parkinsons.

inFAMOUS makes me throw rage fits because my aim is poop.

I haven't played the TF2 yet on the box, but I am disappointed to hear that

Toy with the camera sensitivity. Sometimes thats all it takes to make it work for yourself. I thought infamous's camera was a tad too sensitive. Toned it down, and it solved all my aiming woes. Works in most games for me.

Yeah it's sad. The game has gone relatively unpatched (meaning most games involve people glitching out the game, etc). You can only have a maximum of 16 players, most games are half that. It's hard to find a full game at all. Latency is terrible.

And the worst part, is the fact that NONE of the class updates, including the hats, are there. Instead, Microsoft is forcing Valve to distribute it all as one major DLC when they're done, and it won't be for free.
:argh:

Well, they are the same type of character but are not the same characters at all. Carth has the same role as Mass Effect Carth but their back stories are completely different.

Microsoft is not FORCING them to do anything; all Microsoft is doing it refusing to change the contract all game publishers sign when they release a game on the 360 that uses Live. Valve could get the updates out if they paid the fees Microsoft asks for pushing an update through Live. The only reason Valve gets to do it on the PC is because they own the distribution system.

Actually, no. Microsoft said they have to charge for the DLC, even though Valve wanted to release it for free (including paying MS the usual fees). So yes, they're forcing them.

I Agree with CM on this one, Microsoft refused to offer it for free, even if Valve paid the hosting and bandwidth fees. Shouldn't be a surprise, everyone knows microsoft is a greedy tool of a company.

I hate this.

EVERY COMPANY IN THE UNITED STATES IS OUT TO MAKE MONEY. ANY WAY THEY CAN. That's the way it works. It's called capitalism. If they don't work that way, they don't last long or do very much.
2010-01-06, 1:42 PM #40
Aw come on, Steven. Microsoft is the only company out there that actually wants to make money. Maybe Wal-Mart too. But that's it. Everyone else just gives things away for free out of the goodness of their hearts.
