What peripherals? My xbox cost $300, included a headset and a spare controller. It also came with a game, but I don't remember which one. It was three and a half years ago. I already had a HD TV (most people do!)

The only "peripheral" I have purchased is a replacement headset, but that was just because I was stupid and got the cable stuck in the recliner part of my couch. Instead of pulling it out carefully, I just yanked on it and broke the cable.

And I never have to upgrade hardware or drivers. The game prices are pretty much the same as a PC game for brand new releases, and like Jeppy said, EBGames for older titles. The one time I had problem, Microsfot paid for me to ship it to them, replaced it with no data loss, and I had it back within 5 days. Total down time: 7 days.

Well, all of that is probably true. I just shouldn't have got the Arcade version a little over a year ago, I suppose. I'm on a 20 gb hard drive and upgrading to the 120 would cost around a euro per gig.

The standard price for a new release here seems to be 69.95€, about a tenner above fresh PC titles.

The TV spots for this game are badass.

I have a 20gb hdd too. Its definately more juggling, since you can pretty much have only 3 or 4 gb of DLC and one game installed on the HDD at a time. In my case that pretty much means Fallout 3 dlc, Fable 2 dlc, Shadow Complex and 1 game. But I can live with that.

New console games here in canada sell for about 10$ more than new PC games. But I buy only 5-6 games a year so the difference is minimal. Considering I saved at least 600$ from buying a console over a new pc, it'll take a long time and a LOT of games before it all evens out. More than I could probably fathom playing in my entire life. :P

I don't install games to the HD. The benefit in loading time is insignificant for most games (GTA IV being an exception) when compared with the amount of space consumed..

Thats true really, can't say I've noticed much of a difference now that you bring it up. I don't think I have any games installed anymore.

I remember Mass Effect being slightly more tolerable when installed to the HD, framerate wise when the disc was loading constantly. But other than that, I think the only other game I had was Rock Band 2 because I kept getting freezes with that disc.

I remember hoping that installing Mass Effect to the HDD would solve that annoying texture pop-in. XD Sadly, it didn't. It did hurry some load times and framerate, but the majority of load times happy during those boring elevator rides so there was no hurrying that up. XD

Thank god those, along with the Mako are gone from Mass Effect 2.

On that note, I read that apparently, instead of riding around on bland worlds with the mako, in Mass Effect 2, space exploration allowed you to scan worlds for hot spots and drop down in drop-shuttles à la Halo : ODST.

A note on the games being installed to the HDD on the Xbox, I think I may know why you aren't experiencing better load times. I noticed on mine, that even after I install the game, the only way to tell it to read FROM the HDD is to go into the menus and tell it to play from the hard drive... otherwise it defaults to the disc.

This was just my experience.

I tried both and saw no significant increase. Really the biggest boon is the decrease in noise, since you don't hear the annoying disc drive churn. That thing is so ****ing loud.

I never really noticed it before, but now that I have a PS3, everytime I turn on the xbox I'm like "Hot damn!"

Really? Do you have the original PS3 or the Slim? Because my slim's disc drive sounds like a shuttle launch.

The slim. And I found its super silent! The xbox however... sounds like that shuttle launch you mention.

Well yeah the Xbox has always been annoying. I wonder if my Slim has issues. Everything plays fine, it's just louder than the fat ones for sure.

Oh I think I read something along those lines when I was reading Slim reviews, while I considered buying ones. Apparantly the slim's drives are noisier, ya.

Maybe if you don't buy on Steam. Steam holiday sale was insane. I have like every game I've wanted in the past 4 years for less than $100 total.

Just finished my run through on Hardcore difficulty.

Now I'm trying out the newly unlocked Insanity difficulty for my final Mass Effect 1 run (pre-ME2 Launch)

Yeah, for real. If I wanted to run through Mass Effect again, I wouldn't finish until Easter.

Can't speak for anyone else here, but I mostly neglect my studies.

(Also, I once finished Mass Effect in three and a half hours. If you actually want to listen to dialogue, it'd probably only take 10-12.)

I finished my second campaign in preparation for ME2 in just under a few hours. My first one took over 40 hours. Most of the sidequests are A) Boring B) Useless. I saw the list of things that would effect the second game and just checked them off 1 by 1 before storming the Citadel to blow up as many Geth as possible.

Thats pretty much what I intend to do here too, but I want to get my character to level 60 (currently 46). Apparently the ME2 recognizes if you got your character 60 so I want to see what it does. Might just be handing over a big wad of money as compensation, which would suck, though.

I mostly am doing it for the challenge of playing it through on Insanity.

As for where I find the time, I have a steady 7am to 4pm job, and usually have a few hours after work until my girlfriend drops by. Then thursdays, fridays and saturdays are girlfriendless since she works, leaving me tons of hours. Mind you, I don't always game on those nights. Like I said in another post, I buy, and beat around 6ish games a year. In the summer, I hardly have time to play. In the winter, I don't do much except a bit of skating and snowboarding.

I think my first playthrough took me ~16-20 hours. I did about 60% of the side quests. All of them except the gathering items/insignias/surveys. This last time it took me 9 hours with only a few side quests. I'm probably going to play through this last time on Hardcore as Soldier just for the fun of it, by the time that's over with I should be holding ME2.

First run took me about 19h.

Both subsequent runs took me about 22 and 25 hours respectively. On the last playthrough I ensured that I completed all squadmate sidequests and any non-collection sidequests as well.

Now that I'm playing on insanity I'm not going to bother with meaningless sidequests but I will do squadmates quests, UNC: Asari Diplomacy, and a few others that I found fun. I'm going to do a bit of a checklist based on the info available about Mass Effect 2 save game transfers.

I discovered yesterday that when I do an new game with an Existing ID, my old Vanguard character that I beat the game with and eventually deleted his savefiles was still available there. I wonder if Mass Effect 2 will recognize him, giving me a 3rd transferable character.

I work an average of 60 hours a week, and am married.

The only time I play games anymore is when she is hanging with her mom, or if she "just wants to stay home and read for a while."

Speaking of which, I don't think I ever congratulated you on your wedding, Steven, so in that respect, congratulations! :)

I would rather hang with her and do nothing of note than play video games by myself.

It was more of a comment towards the 60 hours, than being married. Being married isn't terrible if the relationship doesn't suck.

Oh man, Insanity does suck. Not because its tougher, it really isn't. It just takes sweet ****ing forever to kill enemies because any organic enemies just pop immunities. I don't think I'm gonna bother afterall. Might just a run with a Vanguard instead.

After playing for a few hours last night, I'm not even sure how one would get their player to level 60. It's like there just wouldnt be enough to do, unless you just did EVERYTHING including manual decryptions, and surveys.

You can't do it in one play through. You're capped at 50 anyways. I manage to get to 46 in one play through. Then you do "Start a New Career" and then "Select Existing ID". Select said character and start the game over while keeping the same level, and with a raised cap of level 60. They call this "New Game +". I think it takes one or two more play throughs to get to 60 as the last few levels are several hundreds of thousands of xp apart.

Yeps. Its kinda fun playing through the early game and getting really awesome loot. The enemies change too (A BIT). But really, playing it on Insanity sucks. Like I said before, not because its tough, just because it takes forever to kill enemies (exactly my biggest pet peeve about increased difficulties.) Since theres only a week or so left before ME2... well, I don't think I'd finish with that slow pace.
