Many of you know that the player in GTA SA (CJ) need to eat 3 times each day...

but that can happen when you eat too much...

ditto. and the game is incredibly realistic-- if you eat too much fast food, you get man-boobs.

They've obviously thought long and hard about this game. It's EXACTLY how a sequel should be: The first is a damn good game with simple, yet fun gameplay. The next game should keep that simplicity, but elaborate on the more real things. Make the player evolve and change with the suroundings, and make the surroundings change as the player acts on them. I really hope that multiple NPCs can just follow you around wherever you go. Another nice advancement would be that they swipe their own car when you've got too many for a bike. Seriously, riding around with a full crew of homies, getting ready to bust it up and start a gang fight with the X gang, because you need to do a mission over there, but they keep interfearing. Controlling certain parts of the city in real time, not just by owning a building there would also be nice. Getting a cell phone call that your house just got drive by'd would be badass, then you could go avenge your friend's death, etc.

Basically, I'd like more real time events, rather than scripted, storyline events.

GTA III was fun, until half way through the game, when you realized it's the same old boring missions over and over..kill stuff, drive, etc...

GTA: VC comes out, I was entertained for about 5 mins, there was some new stuff to check out. After I checked all the new stuff out it was just GTA III but bigger....Kill stuff, drive, etc.

San Andres has some new stuff, but I can guess that after people get over the new stuff, like getting fat, and the new bigger look and all that, it's just going to be kill stuff, drive, etc...

I just can't get into GTA games, they are to boring for me :|

Well, I'm glad they're done with the GTA 3 series.
I'm looking forward to GTA 4.

Something like GTA 2, that would be fantastic. In GTA 2, you were part of the world, you were part of the city and you had to work your way through that city. In the GTA 3 games, it really did feel as if you were the city, and everything revolved around you. This irritated me. I want stuff to happen by itself, I want there to be other criminals, other stupid people. Vice City added a feature where sometimes you see policemen running after guys, and you get a bonus for killing him. That was good.
And the respect-o-meter, that was pure brilliance. Bored of one mission? Betray your side and work for your enemies!
The open-endedness of it meant you could complete the game just by running over civilians, you didn't have to follow the storyline missions as in the GTA 3 games.

San Andreas looks like it's focussing more on the gang and less on the individual, which is great.

I still miss the outrageous 'arcade' feel that GTA1 and 2 had, though.

can't wait until it hits the PC.

Hopefully, they won't f*** it up and make it us unstable as the GTA3 pc port was.

However, if you eat in the game, you should also have to take a s*** too....

They should make it like postal 2 where you could go around pissing on everything like you could in that game. I nearly fell out of my chair when i played the postal 2 demo.

whoa, whoa whoa... wait a min...

you mean to tell me that if you eat to much, you get fat? and if you don't eat enough you get skinny? interesting.

The story is kinda cool, coming home after prison, wanting to go straigt, finding out your family gang is going under to a new gang you take over the gang again to avenge some murders and take over the city for your family again... sounds neat.

What else is suppose to be in GTA:SA other then getting fat?

That'd be funny as hell. You create your account, and enter the game right in the middle of a huge firefight. 15 seconds later you're dead.

I must agree with SAJN. The game is freaking fun for like, a couple of days. Then, you get sick of killing things, driving, and the rest. It's like going to work. You know all of the city, you get stuck in traffic, have to avoid a ticket, then you have to clean up after some idiot who couldn't do his job. AND you're underpaid. There is definetly no sense of accomplishment in the GTA seriese. One thing, though: For an angsty and angry teen suffering the hatred of the world: Standing on a tall building and shooting into a crowd of bystanders is sheer joy.

My friend has finished GTA 3 and Vice City on the XBox. He enjoyed both, but found Vice City to be better. Now, mainly all he does is drive around and kill things, do really insane stunts, or find a good building and try to get 5 stars so he can steal a tank. The goal after that is to see how long he can keep the tank.

That latter is fun as hell to watch.

But yeah, he usually only plays it for 30 or 45 minutes now. Then he's back in Halo, KotOR, Morrowind, or Madden.

I didn't think Rockstar could top VC, but from the looks of San Andreas, they've done just that. From what I've read, they're really trying to expand it beyond the "take mission, shoot people, get paid" formula that's dominated the last two games. Things like robbing houses, riding bikes, SWIMMING, choosing hairstyles and tattoos (which supposedly change how other's react to you), dirt accumulating on cars. Plus, I guess they're trying to make it a truly persistent world, where wrecks, shootouts, etc. happen outside your field of vision.

In short, if this game lives up to the hype, it is going to kick serious *** .

I did that in Midtown Madness a long time ago. It was among my favorite things to do. 80+ miles an hour, driving against traffic, on the freeway, dodging cars, and going, "Holy ****! THAT was cool..." when you finally hit something.

No one here has mentioned about the weight's correlation with stamina. If CJ (character you play) is too fat, he will be slow and out of breath faster. Concordantly, being too thin will make him weak and lacking in stamina. So what's the solution? You can have him work out by weight benching, punching a punching bag, run on a treadmill, use a bike, etc. When CJ is physically fit, he can spend more time underwater, hit harder, and have great stamina.
Oh I also heard that the targeting system is more akin to "Manhunt"'s and that there are more hand to hand combat moves (martial arts?).
2004-08-30, 2:29 PM #28
I loved the you-don't-have-to-do-missions-to-progress nature of GTA2, there was also a lot more in terms of getting to the top of buildings then dropping molotov cocktails on people or (by exploiting a glitch) driving cars onto people from several stories up.

If GTA:SA can pull of being really enjoyable even without doing missions (which I felt GTA3 and VC lacked to an extent) then it'll be fantastic.

I was pretty much unaware of the type of game this was gonna be until I saw the cover art on Cinescape. So, GTA 3 = 70's, GTA VC = 80's, GTA SA = 90's? Sweet. Wonder what will happen next...
A freeway? Oh god, I hope they put in trucks with trailers. None of the trucks in the series so far have had trailers. I wanna drive one down the freeway the wrong way, looking for another, then crash it into the first truck of equal size I find...

I really doubt GTA3 took place in the 70s. It was definitely modern day given the techno radio station. SA takes place in the early 90s.

GTA 3 = Late 90's

GTA SA = Early 90's

I really, really have high hopes for this game.

The one thing I don't really like is the engine.

The 'blurring' effect is awful, and the textures are really quite poor. GTA3 especially just feels so...console.

I hope for GTA4 they go for a completely new engine, and a completely new look. Perhaps something that isn't trying to look as "real".
