Actually jarl, GTA3 was more modern day.
GTA 3 = Late 90's
GTA VC = 80's
GTA SA = Early 90's

I really, really have high hopes for this game.

Rockstar did a really bad job simulating time and place in GTA3 (enjoyed Liberty City more than Vice though).

The supposed timeline is:

*Grand Theft Auto (1950's)
*Grand Theft Auto: London 1960 (1960's. slightly obvious from the title)
*Grand Theft Auto 2 (1960's)
*Grand Theft Auto 3 (1970's. Very subtle 70's innuendos there. too subtle for my taste, though i hate the 70s anyway)
*Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (1980's)
*Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (1990s)

GTA:SA looks like it might be the best in the entire series so far (though i still don't like how they dropped Vercetti. They potentially could have expanded on his character, and shown us where he was 10 years down the road from VC).

GTA3 seemed more like modern-day than 1970s.

I dobn't think they had pagers in the 70s, for example, and the styles are all wrong. where's the huge sideburns and nappy looking hair?

I HATE that mission. It's not even remotely fair, b/c hillary (who the hell names their son hillary, anyway? That may be why he seems to be such a basket case) has a nice sabre turbo and oyu just have a sentinel. Even if hillary crashes into something, you still lose.

It's not that hard. If you don't crash, you easily win.

No, I think it's pretty certain that GTA3 is set after Vice City.

The only thing that was 70s style were the loading screens. Let's not forget that, in GTA3, Lazlow says he was kicked off the rock station, but in Vice City, he's still working there.

And speaking of Lazlow, will he be in San Andreas?

I though the boat missions were irritating. They weren't especially 'harder' as such, they were just boring. I found a lot of the missions in VC really did tell you flat out what you had to do and how you had to do it, which too was a bit boring. I'd rather do the mission several times and work out the best tactics, the best place to stand, the best weapon to use all on my own..

Uh, there is going to have to be loading between cities, if they are as large as it seems they are...
There's no way they could program the game so it all loads into the memory at once. Well, on the PC perhaps, loading onto the HD or something, but there's no way the PS2 could handle that.
Unless they're cutting corners again, with the whole "load city around player" crap, where really the 'entire city' is only a radius of 5 metres at a time. Really, I would love a full on loading screen if it meant I could have a thoroughly fleshed out city and vehicles and textures and AI and everything.

I'm really beginning to hate console ports. Deus Ex 2 awful. I got Manhunt today, and I agree that the control system is really good (apart from with the nailgun, the shooting system is horrible. I really hate "lock on" type systems), but the console limitations really pulled it down. It could have had so much potential if it was programmed directly for PC.

I wish developers would make for PC first, and then slice and dice to cut it down to PS2 afterwards.

No loadings!!!

That's the exact opposite of what you said.

It's our All-American product. We got the idea from the Germans. The French hate it. It goes for half in Canada. The English have a version, but it's not so hot. There's cheap knockoffs in India. The Japanese are devolping a sleeker, sexier model. Made in China.
