Apple tablet launch thread

Yeah, that first line should really read "when an application crashes, the usual culprit is Safari".

But hey, it was 7:30am, I'm allowed to type crap.

I had a long discussion the other day with a mac junkie at work who was trying to convince me ditching my netbook for an iPad was the only sane move. It ended with him abandoning all his arguments except "it'll look pretty" and "touchscreens are cool". It ended with me wondering what the koolaid tastes like.

I get the ipod, I get the iphone, I don't get the ipad... but then again "I'm not meant to" is an argument I'm hearing a lot of lately. Fine, whatever, I guess I'll keep waiting for Steve Jobs to appear in a vision to me on this one.

It's not for me. Flash can be unstable in certain cases. But then again, I've seen quicktime crash my browser as many, if not more often. That's no excuse for not supporting it. They could easily do what Chrome does and separate the plugins from the browser itself.

Quicktime has been much better to me since Snow Leopard, but yeah, before it was buggy as hell.

I suppose that's why they ripped it all apart and started again.

Safari should be putting tabs in separate processes like everyone else. Chrome and IE8 have it, and soon Firefox will have it. It would solve any plugin related instabilities.

My iMac is less than a year old so maybe it's a bit early to say but I've never had a crash because of Flash & I frequent several websites (e.g. Hulu) with Safari that use Flash as well as play Flash games (e.g. Machinarium). I've had 2 problems with my iMac. The first is when I managed to break iPhoto. This was easily remedied thanks to the ability to rebuild iPhoto libraries. The second has to do with partitioning. I'm unable to create a Windows 7 partition via Boot Camp because "the disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved". I suspect that this has something to do with a VirtualBox Windows XP install that I had done previously. This is a bit irritating but will be resolved when I do a backup/restore.

Mentat - it's corrupt data or very large files. I had the same problem - fire up disk utility and scan for errors. You'll probably need to find your OS disc and reboot, THEN do it booted from the disc. Mine was a problem that the file count was one out. The computer thought it had more more file than it really did, and that screwed it all up somehow.

That did it. Thanks!

I have to admit, I was almost considering buying one of these as I don't already have an ipod touch/iphone, but then I heard about the Notion Ink Adam, and will probably just wait for that to come out in june.
