Yeah, this game was pretty insane for awhile there. Spain should probably have been given another penalty kick.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

They aught to just give them as many penalty kicks as they need to get it right and score, even if it takes the whole night. :P
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

It's time for Spain to go DOWN (they probably won't...)

I think I'm going to root for Spain. If they win, New Zealand will be the only team to finish the tournament without a loss. :XD:

Soccer makes no sense. If New Zealand never lost, how come they aren't the winners?

Doubtful. Soccer's over and football doesn't start again until August.

The Dutch played dirty and awesome at the same time, the referee was a ***** and Spain played pretty awesome

What exactly would you have done differently if you'd ref'd? sent off half the dutch team?

I was rooting for the dutch but quite frankly there is playing hard and there is playing dirty, the dutch could have been down to 9 men by the end of the first half if you'd had some other ref doing the game.

He did a pretty decent job keeping the game interesting right till the end, so he gave a goal kick instead of a corner (which most people are saying lead to the goal, which is wrong btw), well boo-hoo, maybe one of the Spanish players should have got a second yellow and then red...but seriously making that argument and NOT saying at the same time De Jong should have got a straight red is laughable.

It's funny because the few Spainish people I've talked to think Webb was bias towards the Dutch for not sending off more players and the Dutch are complaining about Webb not sending off Puyol for holding up Robben near the end. I think the guy managed a difficult game reasonably well, not great by any means, but not too bad.
People of our generation should not be subjected to mornings.

Well, I'm not saying the ref sucked because he sent away a Dutch player, I'll have to agree with you, they played very dirty, and any other referee would've sent a couple more before the first half ended. The thing I'm so darned angry about was because the Spanish were offside, the ref didn't stop the game and after that they scored.

That said, Spain won fair and square, and to be honest: They deserved it.

Haha, didn't even know that. It'd better be Bobbi Eden than Kim Holland (ugh).

I just can't believe it... this is the third time we're in the world cup finals and it's the third time we lose.

This tournament we beat Brazil (usually our biggest obstacle) so we figured we might be going to do it this time.

But alas...

About the referee, I thought he started too early with giving out cards. If you set the tone that early in the game you're going to have to be consistent (which he more or less was). Especially in a finale you can expect more emotion on the grass, so you're bound to end up with a lot of cards if you're not giving out warnings first.

It's only logical for finales to see more foul play. Remember France-Italy in '06 and Zidane's red card?

As for the game, I think they were fairly evenly matched. There were two moments where Robben was alone in front of Spain's keeper. Those were two huge chances which might have easily determined the outcome.

It could go either way really. We came this close, but Spain got the better moment.

Although to be honest there was an offside situation before the moment of the goal. Not that the actual goal was offside, it's just that the referee should have seen it, so the goal couldn't have happened. Can't blame him though. It is incredibly hard to see in some situations.

It's a hipster thing to be into the most popular sport in the world? :P

And don't worry Dalf, the open is this thursday. That'll take your mind off the BEES.
nope.

complaining about hipsters has been the definition of hipsterdom since shortly after the phrase hipster was inaugurated. (in its more recent incarnation, I mean)

Yeah, Baconfish, exactly. They're into the most popular sport in the world BECAUSE it's the most popular sport in the world, not because they actually like it.

I discovered this while visiting my sister on sunday. She told me to meet her at a bar where she was watching a soccer game. You may have heard of the game, I guess it was kind of important. Anyway, the bar was completely packed with people who were fairly easy to pigeonhole as hipsters, everyone was drinking, no one seemed to really care what was going on except to argue about which team (that they probably arbitrarily picked) was better.

Anyway, my facebook has been inundated for weeks with status updates about the world cup. I don't even see that many status updates about college football, arguably the entire point of being alive in Oklahoma. This leads me to believe that most of the people on facebook don't really care about the world cup, they care about everyone else on facebook THINKING they care about the world cup.

And saberopus, fleh to you, sir.

Hipster? I think soccer is the number one sport almost everywhere in Europe
2010-07-13, 1:00 PM #227
I should clarify: I don't mean that only hipsters like soccer, or that anyone who likes soccer is a hipster, or that soccer isn't worth liking. I just am annoyed by people, who are hipsters, and who only like soccer because they think it is cool to like soccer.

That's not true at all. Hipsters are hated by far more people than just other hipsters. :P

Almost everywhere in the world wouldn't be too far off, either.

By the way, FIFA approximates 700 million viewers for the final game last Sunday. The Beijing olympics' peak was at 600 million.

nope.

No, the U.S. was literally a game away from having every douchebag bro-ham, and butthole hipster talking about how awesome the-other-football is. Thank god we dodged that bullet.
