We finally got that wikileaks dick.

It's about bloody time someone arrested Julian Assange. This man has been endangering all our lives for years by releasing thousands of classified documents detailing everything from how many bullets were fired in every single engagement with innocent civilians to how much toilet paper our soldiers use every single day. This man is no patriot; he doesn't even have the dignity to be American. This is great news! Now the world will finally understand that we can punish their citizens for breaking our laws in their country. Blessed Lieberman is cleaning up one little detail and making sure that this leaking of vital government secrets thing is illegal here, too, and he's going to make the law retroactive so there's no way Julian Assange can weasel out of it using Article I section 9 of the United States constitution. It's really about ****ing time this ******* got what was coming to him. Nothing is more dangerous to a government than exposing it's secrets. Plus, he totally had consensual sex with some Swedish chick - with no condom! Everyone knows that's just asking for an arrest and an std!

OMG look at how many people are trying to make sure every terrorist knows all our vital secrets! http://wikileaks.ch/mirrors.html

MasterCard knows what's important. They've gone ahead and cut Wikileaks off, and so they don't have to redo the paperwork (Smart!) when Lieberman passes his bill, they've gone ahead and cited illegal activity! http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503543_162-20024801-503543.html

Holy ****, there's actually some douchebag political activist group fighting it. Don't click the petition link! http://act.demandprogress.org/act/wikileaks/?akid=26.26292.ZKKzgq&rd=1&t=1

Don't forget who these people really are. They are terrorists, just like AlQueda. This guy said so. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-20023941-38.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody

I'm quoting this for hilarity before it can be edited.
nope.

What? I clearly don't support Julian Assange. He is not my personal hero. He is an evil terrorist who endangers my life by telling everyone about that time our soldiers accidentally blew up a group of school children because one of them had a thermos that might have been a rocket launcher.

Why would you even think I supported him at all when I made it so clear I don't?
2010-12-07, 3:47 PM #5
Although I'm aware of the sarcasm levels in your post, just for clarification: Julian turned himself in.

Oh man what, are you kidding me.
Do you watch Fox News? You are spewing out propaganda harder then even Wookiee could ever try to.
E: Oh sorry, you aren't serious. These days it's hard to tell.

lmao @ Mastercard and senator Lieberman.

Gee, only a thousand mirrors and climbing daily. I wonder if their windmill jousting will be successful.

I personally have hidden 16 old flash drives with the insurance file on it around the house, and have a copy on every single partition on every hard drive.
That's a lot of insurance.

Fun fact 1: The guy is an Australian citizen.

Fun fact 2: The Australian government has made it clear to Assange that he is no longer welcome in his own country and that they will do everything to cooperate with the CIA and US authorities. Which makes one wonder what Australian citizenship means exactly.

Fun fact 3: Dutch parliament held a special session tonight in which several parties asked the government to act in European parliament so that Assange will not be handed over to the US authorities once he's in Sweden.

(Sweden denies this will happen because he's wanted as a suspect for crimes on Swedish soil, but by Swedish law it is theoretically possible that he's handed over if he faces a long detention abroad.)

Several parties in our parliament want an independent committee to research the Wikileaks case. They want to know where the attacks on Wikileaks come from and if it is 'normal' that an Interpol search request was made based on the known facts.

Furthermore they're concerned that he won't have much chance of a fair trial when he's handed over to the US. Especially considering the fact that they've been holding the American soldier who originally leaked the 'cables' in isolation for weeks, which is a violation of human rights in their eyes.

Their stance is that freedom of press should come before the interests of companies and governments.

I'm not an expert on Assange or Wikileaks for that matter, but I find it hard to disagree with them.

The USA would be stupid to touch him. I don't mean execute, I mean even arrest. He'll continue on a self-destructive path and get himself killed anyway (leaking Russian materials is a good step).

Also, this whole "insurance" business is a joke. Insurance from what? Like anyone with half a brain actually cares about the contents of what is being leaked?

Whether they are for or against what Julian Assange and his team are doing, people with half a brain should care about the contents.

Isn't the typical tactic for information leaks to leak a bunch of juicy lies that ruins the credibility of the leaker?

Like rape accusations?

Which were originally dropped by the Swedish prosecutor because the charges are ridiculous and phony, but were eventually picked up by a different prosecutor in a different district after being pressured by a Swedish politician who was in turn pressured by the US government?

Unless you've been in a coma since... well... ever, you already know the contents. So no, as I said, if you have half a brain, you shouldn't care.
2010-12-07, 5:57 PM #24
Since when is distributing information illegal? Don't we have one of them... What do you call them? Freedoms? Last I checked, being a smug prick didn't mean you weren't part of the press.

Don't be ridiculous, BobTheMasher. Members of the press "play ball." That's why they're allowed to publish the official state-sanctioned opinion.

Just a bunch of secret communication cables?

That's not very exact :P

You wanted exact? I don't think anyone is going to bother reading the whole damn thing. Regardless, it's just a bunch of what embassies are saying to eachother, which apparently much of it is "offensive" to other countries, as if they weren't already aware of it. That, and spying, which again, other countries were already aware of.
2010-12-07, 7:34 PM #32
He's an *******, but I think I'd rather have an ******* doing what Assange does than nobody doing it.

It would be so incredibly awesome if somehow the insurance file ends up as a huge bluff, but Assange uses it to somehow gain some sort of immunity. I want this whole thing to play out really really crazy. It really is captivating news for me. Not what's in the cables, so much as all the news surrounding wikileaks in terms of the rape accusations, threats, all that. It is just absurd the way people, particularly politicians or political pundits, are making themselves look either really smart, or really really really really dumb. Not to mention all the material in them is so awesome.

I expect Julian Assange bio to be made a movie in under 1.5 years

Isn't this considered treason? and didn't they use to execute people with such an atrocity long time ago, of course times have changed since then.

How, exactly, do you think it is treason for an Australian man to damage American interests?
2010-12-07, 9:04 PM #37
More alarming: if you think Assange has committed treason, do you also think the 9/11 attacks were acts of treason?

Why not?

Because Assange is white, and the terrorists were brown?

Do all white people salute the American flag now?
