Maybe his proof is that you didn't know what treason is and you sound like a dumbass trying to defend yourself, similar to many of our politicians calling for grossly unconstitutional practices to try and capture a citizen of another country. Once you've been proven wrong, it's best to actually learn what's right. Instead, you continue to argue with Jon'C and you tried to sound smart by saying something about communism, a subject I bet you don't even begin to REALLY know about (and neither do I probably, so that's why I don't begin to throw it around authoritatively). In effect, JonC is teaching you to actually sound smart when you try and argue, instead of throwing words around like communism, or saying that the Australian should be arrested for treason. In the end his complete teardown of your argument will only serve to help you in the future NOT sound like a dumbass. It's better that you get it out of the way here, then in real life probably. If we are going to mock the politicians who say stupid **** like that, aka Joseph Lieberman, Sarah Palin, etc, you cannot expect us to "lay off" when you make the same mistakes. It doesn't help educate the rest of society when you start throwing buzzwords around.

Bingo.

Though I no longer wonder how things got this bad. It really is because people would rather cling to the latest Fox News sound byte than think for themselves and/or give a ****.

Isn't this guy in trouble for rape accusations in Sweden? I thought that was the only legal problems this guy has. Apparently, he leaked.

Or, and I know this may sound crazy, people already knew civilians die on battlefields.

I know, mind blowing.

He isn't charged with Rape. He isn't even being charged yet, they are just accusations he is wanted for "questioning" over as they've put it. The charge in question is related to when he had sex with two women a few years back, one of which the Condom broke whilst in the middle of intercourse. Assange, didn't stop and continued onwards after it broke, which under Swedish law is classified as "Sex by surprise", not Rape. As well it is worth noting two things: One of the women in the case continued a relationship with Assange even after the incident, and it has also been brought to light that she has CIA ties or something of that sort.

There is a ton of info on this also on the net about it, in fact it's pretty much mentioned in every article about this.

Thanks for the info.. very interesting "sex by surprise" its almost LOLable. The topic really doesn't interest me enough to read articles and investigate it more, I unfortunately have more important things going on (just trying to make a point that the leaks really isn't a big deal)

Most definitely yes, the Sex by Surprise thing is incredibly laughable. I've always heard the old joke "It's not rape, it's surprise sex!". I never thought that could possibly be a law. Once again Humanity fails logic.

That's exactly my point. Everyone knows that sometimes civilians get killed, the problem is that the American government denies it when it happens or, in the case of that gunship video, says it has no idea how they were injured. The issue I have (and what I was referring to in my original post on the subject) is that these particular people weren't civilians killed as bystanders during a firefight. They were intentionally targeted and fired upon because of mistaken identification. The root problem I'm worried about is our soldiers becoming very comfortable with the policy of "shoot first, ask questions later".

excuse me...? i don't have any idea if a rape actually occurred. but are you seriously suggesting that because a woman continues in a relation ship after a rape, that it means "hey must not have been rape after all!" ? i am going to go ahead and assume that is not really what you are trying to say, but if it is. **** you.

Whoa back off buffalo bill. I never even stated my opinion on the matter, but rather posted the facts of the situation because someone asked. You need to re-read my post.

Although, I do not consider a condom breaking during intercourse to be rape. If the woman pushed me off and I continued then yes, that is now rape, but if we continued consentually and she never said anything for a couple of years until all the media was surrounding this guy then yes, I would also question motives/situations.

I agree it should be ended, but did you even watch the video I'm talking about? The civilians were standing around in a group talking when they were gunned down by a ****ing minigun. There were no soldiers around to be endangered and they were not taking any sort of threatening action. There was no chance of anyone being "blowed up".

This.

And yeah, Julian Assange is (obviously) not guilty of treason. Since he's not subject to American jurisdiction and probably never will be, anything else he might be charged with is entirely academic.

To preempt one line of discussion that often comes up in conversations about WikiLeaks, Bradley Manning is also not guilty of treason, even though he's an American. Bradley Manning may be guilty of a violation of the Espionage Act. To further preempt that line of discussion, Bradley Manning is almost certainly not guilty of any violation of the Espionage Act that carries the death penalty.

what realy makes me laugh is the fact that some of these reports on leaders are even considdered shocking, when most of them seem to be the general public oppinion of that leader anyway.

I mean, you only needed to have a vague interest in Australian politics to know that Kevin Rudd would make rash desisions without consulting other nations first.

theres a dizzying amount of sarcasm in this thread and its very hard to tell who actually believes he's the bad guy.

The rape charges were dropped due to having NO evidence, over a month ago, (and now there are reports than the woman who cried rape was a christian blogger who got stood up by julian and was just exacting revenge), and now a politician reopens the case despite there being no evidence and the whole world seems to be crying out for his blood.

Whether or not the man himself is an egotistical freak, what he and his fellows stand for is transparency, truth and justice. 99% of politicians wouldnt know of these things if they collectively hit them in the face at once.
